  • Why do you want to be big? Why don't you want to be big? Have you ever been big? Have you ever been small? Have you ever been small but wished you were big and got even smaller and realized you like being smaller so you got even smaller and then realized maybe you wanted to be big after all and so got really big, really quick and then wanted to be small again? PLEASE ANSWER!!!

  • I'm a 5'11", small framed dude. Went from 150lbs running marathons in my early/mid 20s to 195 powerlifting late 20s/early 30s. While it feels good being strong and appeases the ego to an extent, it wasn't for me. Got back into running and do calisthenics twice a week at 36 weighing low 160s and it feels like the optimal weight for my height to feel good every day throughout the day!

  • I want to be bigger so I can lift more, but also to be a functional athlete. I bounce between outdoor sports like rock climbing, mountaineering, and martial arts so I really want well balanced development that can let me get 85% of the way there in whatever I'm doing. So as long as I can push, pull, stay flexible, and keep decent cardiovascular fitness in a run or a match eventually, I'll be happy at any size. But I ballooned up from 145 at 5'6 to 170+. I'm trying to focus on high protein, reducing simple carbohydrates, and I want more muscles but I definitely could use a cut. I put that weight on while I wasn't eating as cleanly or carefully and I would hope my dietary changes will make future gains a lot leaner. I know getting big can't happen on accident, but I don't want to transcend humanity like some dudes do. I don't want to sacrifice my performance in any of those sports for another. I'm a big fan of historical athletes like Jim Thorpe and Jim Brown who both did multiple sports, including track and field, football, etc.

I'm also 6'3" so even at 220 i was not that big by most standards if you looked at me. However, it was big for my standards and i always felt tired, i even sprained my ankle for the first time when i was that heavy, just not meant for that life loll. Between the range of 175-195 i feel like I'm my optimal self. If i ever am over 200lbs again it will be a very slow and deliberate process rather than packing it on just because. I don't ever want to feel the way i felt at my heaviest ever again.

  • Been skinny my whole life at 5'11". Since adulthood my smallest has probably been 125 and my biggest 165. Back when I was working out my hardest I didn't have the money to eat enough to really fuel my growth so I plateaued. Took 4 years off around when COVID hit and shrunk back down to 130. I enjoyed the free time of not always going to the gym but being less active wasn't good for my mental health after a while so I jumped back in and put back on about 20 pounds in two months. Kind of happy to stay in the 155-175 range, I think that's my ideal size personally. Being skinny naturally i do need some new shirts usually once I put on muscle which is annoying but not the biggest deal, plus my flexibility is already bad so it doesn't help. Confidence in your body and feeling not puny and self-conscious is the biggest boost I get from it.

    • You can't pre-predict how you would be because how everyone's body responds is drastically different. I've seen a lot of now phenomenal looking people in their "pre steroid" pics and they looked pretty average to me. Look at Thor in his lanky basketball years as an example and then we all saw what he became in his prime strongman years! Not saying these things to say "get on", just give yourself the benefit of the doubt that it'd probably make a bigger difference than you're presently thinking!

  • I think there is an economy of movement that is lost when you grow to a certain size. I'm 5'9, and now sit between 205lbs and 210lbs. I feel like if I were to get any bigger, I couldn't hit a heavy bag as long or run as fast or as long. Some endurance is probably lost. I'm trying to get as strong as possible within the parameters I have set for myself. There are outliers (yourself) who can do a lot of acrobatics and be heavier. I'm not sure exactly what the result would be if I gained another 20lbs of mass. Could I be as mobile at 225/230 as I am at 205? What's the trade off. I'd put on another 10lbs if that means I could hit a 750lbs deadlift eventually. Thoughts?

Now I generally sit at 210ish and the heaviest I have been was 230. At 185 I was a lot faster and had way better conditioning than I do now, although I’m working on it by taking up boxing a few months ago. At 185 i also had a much better ability with my body weight…as in climbing, handstand stuff etc…I do miss having that ability for sure but I also like being bigger because I actually look like I lift rather than just looking athletic if that makes sense.

  • Weird.... im 5'10" tall and weigh about the same as most of these guys - 205.... but probably about 5% more BF. I was fatter 5+ years ago at 255 lbs. I ballooned up post-Navy due to completely tearing up my knee my last year in the Navy..... which the navy misdiagnosed but thats a long story. For about 8 years i didnt workout at all. I had a physically demanding job though so that kept me DOWN to 255 at my heaviest. Pre injury and at my leanest in the navy i weighed 165. RIGHT before the injury i stayed around 180 for the most part. Now at 205 lbs.... im back to wraring the size 34 pants i wore in the navy but im like.... 20-30 lbs heavier. Its weird because i do get a ton of comments like "wow... do you lift" and "you look good" but i don't think i look as jacked as i did in the navy. I feel like i need to meet a jacked dude and compare because while i feel good.... great even... i dont "feel" big. But again.... i weigh 205... as much as these dudes... more than some. Its the "woes" and downside of having a decked out garage gym and lifting alone i guess - i have nothing to compare myself to. Long story short.... i dont get the lack of mobility or inability to run recurring sentiments shared here. Maybe its because i spent almost a decade being a fat... but strong "fireplug" shaped dude (what my co workers called me) but i feel at my current weight.... and strength which is the strongest ive ever been - i feel like im MORE mobile and my cardio is insanely better. Im not capable of running a 7-8 minute mile and a half like i did in the navy but thats more due to my wonky knee.... and aging joints (and the aftermath of the navy misdiagnosis... again, long story). But i feel as flexible/mobile as i did in the navy.... 30-40 lbs lighter. But in addition to lifting religiously the last 5+ years i also do 2 20 minute HIIT sessions a week. And at my new(ish) job its like im semi retired and have a lot of downtime in which i do some stretches. Basic shit though. No yoga-like crap or anything. That all said..... id say the most difficult thing being 205 at the average height and having been both normal sized/"small" and fat.... is finding clothes that fit properly. Ive always had a barrel for a chest but when i was smaller my lats werent as big so ginding shirts wasnt too difficult. I was always between sizes though... medium and large.... favoring the medium side. At my fattest i filled out a large appropriately. Never got into the super fat territory of having to have "extra" in front of my sizes. This was during my phydically demanding job period though so i pretty much wore carhartt everything and i feel like their stuff runs large.... so maybe i wouldve been an XL shirt guy in most other brands. Now though.... i NEED a large shirt for my chest, shoulders and lats... but could easily wear a medium around my torso. T shirts and polos are fine if i get a "fitted" version/style shirt in a large. Ill fill out the sleeves and the chest will be snug but its a proper fit around the torso. I like it but i do get comments that im dressing like a "bro" and showing off. When in reality if i get a normal large it fits just as snug on the upper-upper body but VERY loose around the waist. When i put one on i feel like a dump and that i don't know how to buy clothes that fit.... and i still get "bro" comments because i still fill out the chest and sleeves of the shirt. If i got an XL to have the chest and sleeves fit like an average joe... there would be SO much fabric flapping around my waist/ torso ill feel like i'm wearing a poncho. Dresss shirts/button downs.... forget about them. Like my dad i have always.... ALWAYS had a big neck. Not only big, but short too. Collared shirts are incredibly uncomfortable. I have an 18.5" neck 48" chest and about a 33-33.5" waist..... yeah. If i get a button down it HAS to be tailored. Theres no such "off the shelf" buttondown in existence that will fit this body properly, hahaha. Button downs ARE pretty much ponchos for me if i get one where i can button the top button to put a tie on. Im talking so much fabric around my torso i can take the buttons, that are buttoned, and pull them around to my mid back.... its HUGE around my waist. So yeah... id say buying shirts is kind of a pain in the ass. As for pants. Jeans. I think i might be in the minority but ive never minded the fact that jeans are a bit snug in the thigh and calves. At least thatshow it is for me. The calves part can be annoying because theyll ride up your leg so when i stand up i got to pull the fabric back down to my ankles as my calves are juuuust big enough to cause the material to catch and ride up. I wear 34s just to get them around my ass. Its loose-ish around the waist though and therefore doesnt squeeze my beans and sausage. I'll fill out the thighs.... especially when sitting, and that could be uncomfrtable.... depending on the brand, but when standing/walking around they fit normal. A lot of manufacturers are making jeans though with a bit of stretch to them so i tend to gravitate towards thoose. Like levis 505s.... i believe. I can handle those. I do have a barbell apparel pair of jeans and they fit great.... but not THAT much better than the 505s stretch jeans i can get for 1/3 the price. Levi 541s "athletic fit" are pretty good too. Only "problem" i have with any pant is i need to get 34s to get over and fit my ass which then leaves them a bit loose around the waist.... but fit.... fairly well everywhere else. But.... thats why they make belts. Also, while i squat 400+ and deadlift just shy of 600 lbs..... i tend to take it easy on my legs (due to wonky knee..s) so theyre not overly tree trunk-ish. Bottom line..... proper fitting clothes are definitely a thing i didnt have to think about much when i weighed 165-180.... or 230-255. At 205 though..... its definitely a chore when i have to go clothes shopping. But i do that so rarely nowadays it seems. MAYBE once a year. But again.... i dont get the "lack of mobility" and "i cant run/i get winded easier" sentiments. These dudes (some of them) are leaner than me..... how is their cardio and stamina dogshit?

But also stuck at around 70% of my potential in both .. Also my Job is physical so both the Strength and the mobility makes my work easier . Many times I have wanted to go full out in 1 but about 1-2 weeks in I miss the other part and end up going back.. @Audio_Simon@Audio_Simon7 ай бұрын
    • You cannot spot-reduce body fat by exercising that area. Calorie deficitet will reduce it overall, but specific fat distribution (and water retention) will depend on a mixture of genetics, nutritional and lifestyle factors. Weight training, a proper diet, good sleep and limiting alcohol will be your general approach.
