  • its an Oshkosh HET made for the British Army.The trailer is an interim trailer made by King;normally used for moving Engineer plant and smaller armoured vehicles. They were testing at Long Valley/Rushmoor arena near Aldershot.The AFV on the back is a Warrior APC. I believe the trailer that was supplied for the Challenger is a lot bigger and has seven axles.Don't know if they are powered or not but I think they have some kind of diff lock on each wheel station and are designed to operate on terrain like this if necessary?

  • Bearing in mind the Trailer is carrying probably less than half the weight of a fully loaded Battle Tank it is managing OK, but what if this was a Battle Tank, presumably with all its Armour, would the suspension and or the whole trailer have to be redesigned? A family member used to be part of the Design Team a few years ago and he occasionally would drive a prime mover home, and it is only when on normal roads the size of these things becomes obvious, something like a normal truck on Steroids. And I use the word "Truck" in the English UK nomenclature, not the USA one that means something like a small open back van.

    @mrbluenun@mrbluenun9 жыл бұрын
    • mrbluenunThey can transport fully equiped and fueled Abrams, however, they won't drive in this kind of roads or in this kind of condition. They will only open a exeption if the tank was beyond local repair and it need to go back to the main camp for repair. It would drive a lot more slower, it would use a ton of fuel and would increase the maitance of the truck drasticly.

    • Rene arteaga vilchiz The fact that he has a large hanging wheels is not a novelty, this is a mandatory attribute of off-roading equipment. And the new platform is not an indicator. There is a large mass of the truck handled the delivery of heavy loads without filing such a heap of money in fact in the modernization of the existing truck. But to use Your truck in certain regions with good soil.

      @AaronsAutomotive@AaronsAutomotive8 жыл бұрын
    • +Aarons Automotive yeah but this isn't no normal 18 wheeler, this is a truck that has 4 axle drive, so that's 2 wheels pulling on the front axle, and then 4 tires on each 3 additional axles, compared to just 8 tires pulling on a normal tractor, which is a big difference!

    • Not with a full tank of gas, and possibly both tracks still attached(possibly).....

      @YouTubeDeletesComments@YouTubeDeletesComments9 жыл бұрын
    • VancouverCanucksRock Sure it could have. The reason they transport the tanks is for fuel efficiency, to save wear and tear on the tracks, engine, ect. It's also faster than the tank driving itself.

    • Max McTabish It could have arrived at the Battlefield with full tank of fuel had it driven there? That is what I was meaning, and also that it prob would've thrown a track by the time it got there, also

      @YouTubeDeletesComments@YouTubeDeletesComments9 жыл бұрын
    • VancouverCanucksRock Don't forget that those trucks are not only to take good tanks into battle, they are also made to take out broken vehicles back to the camp to recive repair.

      @brunoraoni@brunoraoni9 жыл бұрын
    • No, it could not have. first, it was not a tank, it was an Armored Personnel Carrier, it appeared to be a M113. The HET(Heavy Equipment Transport) is capable of highway speeds of at least 60 MPH. The APC is not. Other comments referenced wear and tear on the tracked vehicle. These comments are also quite valid. Let's add that the APC probably has a crew of 3, and o be driven under self power, those soldiers are doing jobs that the trucker with the empty APC cannot do.

Tis a fact that they do have some unstoppable trucks that will climb up a rope if the needs be there for such navigations. they do have a lot of old Clunkers but Ii must say after viewing their go anywhere unstoppable ex-army trucks this may have clouded my mind. Thanks Bruce.

    @MrMarkpark@MrMarkpark9 жыл бұрын
    • MrMarkpark I think it could do it but it will need a reinforced trailer and the truck will drive mutch more slower. In that case, in this type of terrain, driving the tank itself would be better at money/effiency. The only reason for them to haul a Abrams in those condition would be if the tank was damage beyond local repair, witch mean the tank would need to go back to the base camp for repair, or in worst case scenario, get shipped back to the US.
