The oil rig movers were huge units that resembled the large CAT trucks you see in open-cast mines, minus the bucket on the back. Believe they were Kenworth 959s or something like that.

  • A blast from my past. I ran a "Sow" much like this one in my younger days. The rig could do amazing jobs. Moving the drill rig was always a favorite time. The entire drill rig could be set on its deck. Another truck would mount the top of the derrick on its 5'th wheel and would drive backwards for sometimes 100 miles. AHH, The good old days, LOL.

    • I'm retired now but kinda miss running winch cat to pull you guys out, bed trucks ,sows and commander. Takes a lot to get a commander stuck but it happens ! I remember watching the derirck go by me at about 40-50 mph with bed truck going backwards ! They took the corner too fast and rolled the whole works into the ditch ,lol.

    • @@BIGPOLEHERBEAR That "R" word eh. I thought retiring would be great. It was for about 3 weeks and found boredom for the first time ever. A busy life needed a replacement so I tried pouring pure silver into all king of things. That was 11 years ago and I am still doing it. Stop by if you like. I can just imagine that rig, sow and bed all laying on their sides. Was it a triple ? Did the rig get a bend or two? I only went up on the drilling floor once. The rig kicked so hard the kelly broke spraying mud everywhere. EVERYWHERE ! Itb waas up my nose, in my boots, filled my coveralls, I was alone there until the BOP cut in. Everybody else had bailed. That was my first and last time I went up there. The Loader and my baby sow were quite enough to keep me satisfied eh, LOL.

    • That’s what I’ve done for well over twenty three years. I hold a Certification for Master Automotive Diagnostic and Repair and I’ve fixed every type of issue you can imagine and some of them can be tough but I’ve been one of the best and received all of the vehicles that others couldn’t diagnose. And most of the time on these newer ones it’s nothing close to what the scanners tell you. It’s other issues completely that cause the original issue! The older vehicles were much easier to diagnose and repair. Personally I miss all of the old 50s 60’s 70’s cars and trucks more than anything! Everybody wants $70,000 or more for the oldie goodie’s! There just aren’t enough of them anymore. Most cars and trucks these days are throw aways. They don’t last nearly as long as my old trucks that are still on the road and off. But none the less it was my job and I loved it!

    • Depends a lot on battery size and how it is engineered. There's an eventuality to electric vehicles but that doesn't mean that they are going to replace all ICE's in the world. If we can replace the ICE's that run cars and trucks along with semis or even use a hybrid system that would help a great deal. Better battery chemistry and design is already here just isn't mainstream yet and that will make a big difference. Batteries that rely on more abundant and less costly metals.
