  • So proud of the Ukrainian Warfighters and of my HIMARS and MLRS systems!!! I was a Battalion Master Gunner for a HIMARS Battalion, 22 years of service and I have fired the M270 and M142 on Three Continents and during combat operations . I wish I could tell you more about the capabilities and firepower that some of the family of munitions that these MLRS Platforms can use! But I have signed NDAs and not at liberty to say….. these systems are amazing! I have also trained Ukrainians in the past several years and I can’t tell you how proud I am of the men and women of Ukraine that are fighting! The were the smartest, most motivated, and most willing to learn that I have ever trained. So happy to see them fight the way they do!! I hope they keep giving Russia what they deserve!!! Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦!!!

I am only just learning of the M30A1 munition capabilities and how they will be ready and waiting to welcome the 300,000 unfortunate new targets approaching. War is such a terrible thing. A successful response and defence to an attack of this nature however is worthy of massive respect to all the of parties involved in it. Maximum respect to the soldiers and people of Ukraine.

In bed with big corporations looking out for their interests only. Russia is authoritarian not fascist. USA and EU are fascist. And let's not even get started on the link to nazism which would get me started on the Ukrainian regime.

      @jonkisby4871@jonkisby4871 Жыл бұрын
    • @@jonkisby4871 From the dictionary: "Fascism is a system of government led by a dictator who typically rules by forcefully and often violently suppressing opposition and criticism, controlling all industry and commerce, and promoting nationalism and often racism." What part of Russia doesn't fit that description? Yes Russia can be described as authoritarian as well but it is much more than that at this point. The current situation is a superset of that word. EU and USA can be mostly flexing economic imperialism muscles but they're nowhere near the definition of fascism there.

  • I don't think anyone doubts the effectiveness of the HIMARS systems, but they absolutely do NOT make up 70% of Ukraine's firepower. I doubt that it is 10%. Ukraine has another 360 highly mobile and self propelled 155 mm guns capable of firing Excalibur rounds capable of hitting a dinner plate out to 70 - 80 km (actually a CEP of about 1.6 meters). Not trying to take anything away from those HIMARS because they are amazing weapons, but let's just try to keep this in perspective. My point is that the Russians are already way out-gunned in this war and Ukraine only has a fraction of the weapons we should be providing them. Here is a list of those 155 mm guns: HIMARS - M142 (34)/M270 (9) (M142 - 34 from USA; M270 - 6 from UK; 3 from Germany) M109 - (112 total). From Belgium - 64; Norway - 22; UK - 20; Latvia - 6. Caesar - 18 from France. Krab - 78 from Poland. Panzerhaubitze 2000 - (20 total) 10 From Germany; 5 From Italy; 5 From Netherlands Zuzana - 8 From Slovakia Bohdana - 1 From Ukraine M777 - (118 total). USA - 108; Australia - 6; Canada - 4 And the US lend/lease has not kicked in yet. According to Oryx, here are the numbers of those guns destroyed since they arrived in the theater. 12 units destroyed out of 380 = 3.16% HIMARS - 0 (out of 43 - includes M142 / M270) - 0.00% M109 - 2 (out of 112) - 1.78% Caesar - 0 (out of 18) - 0.00% PzH 2000 - 0 (out of 20) - 0.00% Krab - 1 (out of 78) - 1.28% Zuzana - 0 (out of 8) - 0.00 % Bohdana - 0 (out of 1) - 0.00% M777 - 9 (out of 118) - 7.62%

They didn't think there would be a standing army left after Russia invaded and were instead preparing Ukraine for a guerilla war not unlike Afghanistan fought against Russia a few decades ago. In fact the quick defeat of Afghani military after the US left the country further cemented the view that an direct conflict would be a one-sided victory for Russia.

    • The US/UK/Canada miliaries along with the CIA have been in Ukraine since 2014 training them along with providing military and economic aid. I think they were withholding advanced/heavy weaponry to see if Ukrainians would actually stand up for themselves or not because, let's be honest, in 2014 they didn't. There's also the reality that sending tens of billions of equipment to Ukraine would not have been a very popular move politically if they weren't in a full scale war like they are now. It's cynical but something politicians have to take into account.

  • Someone, I think King55 below, mentioned ATACMS. ATACMS have already been in country in two variants; STAKY air base. It comes down to war reserve inventories meant to back up potential operational requirements. US had just under 3,000 ATACMS in inventory but they also want to control them only for approved targeting such as STAKY, as part of war gaming the whole thing. The ATACMS has a fake six panel covering the back of the single round pod so no one will ever know. The Russians know but there is nothing that they can do. They complained about HARM too, after it was quietly given to Ukraine. It comes down to supply of pods. A rough guess is that NATO started out with 59,000 GMLRS missiles and US manufactures only 7,200 a year, and they are blowing through a lot. Of the 59,000, US probably started with an inventory of 25,000. These are all guesses but you get the idea. These things don’t grow on trees. You can have 550 launch systems but of course they are useless without the pods. They’ve also received close to a million rounds of 155 from US inventory which is quite a production chunk. Germany has given them 10,000 rounds which is a day or two supply. A lot of ordinance is evaporating and it has to be managed, not only politically. Having said that, the Ukrainians have shown that they know how to effectively use what they are given. They have put the western training that they have received over the years to good use and they are ‘can do’ and ‘will do’ and they will push the Russians through the winter, killing their logistics and their morale. The Russians will have no food, no ammo, and they have no cause or non-com leadership. Russian officers have died “accidentally” since the early days, wait till a cold winter hits them in the field. Someone also mentioned that the Chinese have given the Russians access to their commercial drone software. The Ukrainians knew that and altered the software.

  • Key feature that wasn't discussed regarding the MLRS (HIMARS) systems is precision. M270 and M142 are much more precise than what was Ukraine was previously using, namely Soviet era Grads and Uragans. Soviet era Smerch rockets can hit further than standard HIMARs munitions but again lacks precision. Ukraine also has (very) few upgraded Vilkha and Burevia systems but those are marginally better than the Soviet systems which those are based on.

But, sadly, we have to admit that there are people in this world who think differently than us. Such people need some strong and decisive response, but it is not for everyone that the war is too long. In fact, it was best to prepare in advance so that war did not happen in the first place. However, the international community is also responsible for the outbreak of war. So, it may be a better option to acknowledge and accept the reality of what is happening, to end the war as soon as possible, and then focus on how to prevent future threats. Just as the lockdown period shouldn't be too long just because the corona outbreak occurs, likewise, war shouldn't make the war too long. The main audience must not be transmitted. We need to think about the fundamental purpose of our life.,
