Russians who Fled War Are Going Back: Victory for Putin? | Vantage with Palki Sharma
Russia's war in Ukraine has been going on for more than 2 years. In these last two years, Russia has faced an ever-increasing number of western sanctions. But despite this, Russia's economy has kept on growing. Russia's economy grew by 3.6% in 2023, and growth is expected to outpace that of all advanced economies this year. One of the major reasons for Russia's growth is the return of Russian citizens. Over a million Russians left the country in 2022, but about half of them have returned. They have returned for various reasons, such as their host countries not renewing their residency permits, to outright discrimination. These returning Russians are helping fuel Russia's economy.

  • I'm a US citizen living in Russia and I personally had many friends who left Russia in 2022. Many of them tried living in 3-4 other countries and weren't happy with any of them. One thing many people don't realize is that Russia has a very high quality of life with a relatively low cost of living. That's why many Russians who go abroad complain about things like housing and infastructure, becuase they are often expected to pay more money for something much worse than what they could get in Russia, this is just the reality of the situation and one of the many reasons why I still preffer to live in Russia.

    • That's interesting. I am originally from Russia and lived abroad for many years now. I find the western freedom, lifestyle and opportunities infinitely better than what I did in Russia. My friends who stayed in Russia still earn very low wages, live in very small apartments in the city and have a lowcsrabdard of living. You only have to travel outside of the cities a few KM before you see so much poverty. I know many Russians tgat lived abroad and will NEVER live there again. If the low standard if living wasn't bad enough, now we are only allowed to have Putin as a president. I like many other would like to see growth and modernisation in Russia and hoped for a change in political leader but Putin systematically had all of his opponents disqualified, jailed or killed. I say get out of Russia now to anyone. That's why all of the leaders and oligarchs there own so many western assets. So they can escape when they need to.....

  • Indeed... Among those who were trying to flee were engineers, IT guys, scientists who if hired by the west could contribute to the western economy. They should be welcomed and given preferential treatment, that would contribute to making Russia weak. Instead they were treated (as video host says) with all kinds of discriminations. Now they are getting offers from Russia that are more lucrative than they had before the war (that is confirmed by Bloomberg). The grows of Russian economy happens not just because weapons production. Due to sanctions lots of Russian businesses were able to offer products and services that used to be sold by foreign companies. The government program helping to localize production also contributes to that.

People who got trapped inside were demonstrators and just opposing to the right-wing government in Kiev that had been put in place in a U.S.-orchestrated illigal coup just weeks earlier. Around 1000 Azov fascists were armed with bats, shields, and metal chains and that the people inside the union hall had run there for protection from them. After the attack by the rightists, streets around the trade union headquarters were reportedly stained with the blood of those who had jumped from windows to escape the flames.Women and children were reported to be among those burned alive after initial rounds of shots and Molotov cocktails were thrown into the building by the right-wingers. I used to think that Russia was a bad country and most people had the opinion that the United States and European countries were higher in terms of living standards: people had never been so wrong. The standard of living in Russia is indeed higher than in any city in Europe or the USA, where it is dirty in every city and there are homeless people everywhere. While almost all cities in Russia are clean, there are no homeless people, a bunch of delivery robots, applications where they will bring you any crap from anywhere in the city in 15 minutes, cheap taxis, excellent school education (where people at least learn geography and the history of other countries). • 😂this is a simple way to winterpret numbers. 3,6 is correct gdp growth but it is because all government money goes to running normaal factories into warfactories that male stuff that will be get destroyed. That is negative investment. After the war all these factories don't make money. Nearly all lended money in russia is already denominated in Chinese yuan. Wit two years after this war or earlier : the ruble will be 120 tot a dollar. = totaal destruction like the ruble after the soviets lost the afghan war. Pensioners in russia who always vote putin for a stable pension will be furious. Numbers lie. The numbers of the IMF are correct but watch joe Blogs on youtube to Understand what is happening to the russian economy. Petrol prices in russia are going up 10% every month. . No propaganda can hide that reality.

      @henk3202@henk320217 күн бұрын
  • The main reason the Russian economy withstands the Western imposed sanctions and still manages to clock a 3.5% growth rate is because they managed to de-dollarize and break away from the mostly Western backed financial system. Going forward, expect the BRICS+ countries to phase out the use of the US dollar by 50-60% by the year 2030.
