if you are on Java edition, it is actually possible to make progression without structures or a bonus chest. However, it's absurdly difficult. 1) Create a superflat world with a Taiga biome 2) Find a fox holding an emerald in its mouth 3) Kill the fox for the emerald 4) Repeat steps 2-3 until you have 5 emeralds 5) Wait until a Wandering Trader spawns, selling a sapling 6) Buy the sapling, and now you can begin progression. All of this can be done in the short time of... hundred hours or so? It's absurd, but it's possible.

Java has no flat world defined type. Superflat is 1 bedrock layer, 2 dirt, and one grass. However, Java Bonus Chests NEVER have saplings. I've read that in wiki's, and have tried starting about a dozen times without ever getting saplings. So this challenge, as you define it, is not do-able in Java. Someone suggested that I could get saplings from wandering traders. However, no way to access emeralds UNLESS I set the biome type to something which allows foxes. And that requires fiddling with presets. So, setting this up isn't as easy in Java as it is in Bedrock.

The bonus chest isn't entirely a necessity as in bedrock edition, pillager patrols can spawn with Vindicators. Vindicators have a 65%--80% chance (depending on difficulty) to drop emeralds. Then all you have to do is wait for a wandering trader to spawn and hey presto, that's hours of your life you can never get back. This information could be wrong as Vindicators have been added and removed from pillager patrols a couple of times so dont quote me on this.

2:31 You don't need the Bonus Chest any longer😉 Let a Wandering Trader drop its Milk Bucket. Sell that Milk Bucket to another Wandering Trader for 2 Emeralds. Craft Fermented Spider Eye and sell it to another Wandering Trader for 1 Emerald. Buy a Bucket of Fish from another Wandering Trader. Next time, you can sell all the items. The Bucket drops, as Bucket of Water or Bucket of Milk, for 2 Emeralds. The Fermented Spider Eye, a Hay Bale or a Bottle of Water for 1 Emerald. If you play on Java edition it's very easy to write some custom recipes to fill some of the gaps in superflat or vanilla skyblock/stoneblock or other similar challenge wordgens. For example I made lava craftable by using a blast furnace on stone to make magma blocks, then combining some magma blocks with an empty bucket to make a bucket of lava. It only requires simple JSON and there are even tools out there that will generate them for you if that scares you.
@dm99102 жыл бұрын
And we call that cheating. The true beauty of a challenge is to find a way to beat the game without any tools, help or cheats. Is a test of skill, patience and creativity. Just creating a quick solution has no merit or effort, and makes all the time and skill put on all the other things seem worthless. That's not fun at all.
@Ivi-Tora2 жыл бұрын
@@Ivi-Tora Except that it's quite literally impossible to complete the game under the conditions outlined in the video. It's not a case of "oh if you just grind hard enough you can get lava" - it simply can't be done. The superflat/skyblock type gamemodes weren't designed to be played in survival and if you want to actually have a complete experience you need to "cheat". You can give yourself some lava with console commands, which I find a bit unsatisfying, or you can use mods. I find that the widely available mods add too much and obsolete vanilla methods for getting resources, so I made my own. Even with added recipes, my version of skyblock is significantly harder than both vanilla worldgen and all skyblock modspacks I've played. I'm sure with some tweaking you could achieve something pretty similar for superflat, letting you complete the game without trivializing the mode.

I feel like if you don't get an oak or dark oak sapling from the bonus chest, you can't actually get very far coz you can't get apples, can't get villagers and can't get emeralds to get more types of saplings from the wandering trader. I was just thinking if it would be possible to progress in Superflat without a bonus chest, with the recent 1.20 update where bamboo can be turned into planks, if one were to fish in a jungle biome, but then I not only realized that there might not be any different biomes (grass wise) in superflat, but also in order to fish things up, you need a Crafting Table, and no mobs drop saplings, logs or planks (as far as I know anyway), so yeah, without a bonus chest, Superflat Survival is practically impossible. But even WITH the bonus chest, you're kinda screwed if you don't get oak or dark oak as your first sapling(s) because of the apples needed to cure villagers. So if you find anything in the chest but oak or dark oak saplings, you basically have to restart the world, which is kinda sad, but at least it would be at the very beginning and not late into the run and ruin all the progress you made thus far. Oak is a bit meh, but it is the best tree for superflat, it seems, since dark oak is too expensive with saplings, and I did in fact once on Skyblock chop down a whole Dark Oak tree and didn't get a SINGLE sapling... fortunately I'm growing 2 of each tree at the same time, and the second tree granted me 8 saplings, thus making up for the first one not having any. Also on Skyblock, I came up with a very simple but pretty effective and safe mob house design that works well for all mobs except witches, which I did by making a block house completely dark, then the entrance has a trapdoor (jungle preferably as it can be seen through and relatively well too) at the top, and then I made a small tunnel going to the left or right of the entrance on the outside, so the room is as dark as possible. Inside the tunnel, I placed down carpets so mobs can't spawn in there, and I also placed a carpet right below the trapdoor, and as such, no mobs can get to me, even if the trapdoor is open, in the latter case except for baby zombies, but when the trapdoor is closed, baby zombies can't get through because of the carpet. Baby zombies can only get through both closed trapdoor and carpet if they're riding a chicken (that was an amusing sight, and also where is the logic in that?). Furthermore, while the trapdoor is closed, mobs can't see me, so if a Creeper gets to the entrance, they won't blow up even if aggroed, and Skeletons can't shoot arrows at me. Zombies can still hit me, but I simply have to step back a block or two from the entrance and I can still hit the Zombie. Same with Endermen (I made the room 3 blocks tall so Endermen can spawn as well). Also Spiders can't get through because the entrance is 1 block wide, and though they can crawl above the entrance, if I open the trapdoor, I can hit them from below and step back to avoid hits, but often they will simply stay in place somewhere at the ceiling and won't attack me even if I hit them and that makes for an easy kill. The only weakness with my initial design was that I couldn't see if there were mobs in the corners right beside the entrance, but I solved that by simply filling in those corners with blocks, so the room has a somewhat horizontal cone-shape, and thus I can always see if something is in there and not get surprised by a Creeper hiding in the corners. Like I said though, the only mob the house doesn't counter is the witch, she just keeps healing herself when I knock her back, so I am forced to go in there and fight her manually, at which the witch (hehe) will throw a potion of poison at me which is rather annoying, but as far as I have experienced, witches don't seem completely capable of actually killing you, but simply weaken you? So not a huge deal, but still an annoyance, and I don't know if there is a way to counter witches with my mob house that doesn't require me going in there and get poisoned. I started with just one house, which seldomly spawned anything, but when I then made four more, having 5 in total, they spawn almost all the time, sometimes just one mob, sometimes it's almost full house with creeper, skeleton, zombie and spider, sometimes in addition to Endermen. I also decided to keep 3 Endermen alive and let them roam my island, naming them Kenny, Levi and Mikasa, coz I like Endermen, they're kinda cute and cool and I relate to their aversion to eye contact but otherwise being pretty chill. Had them for a few days now, close to if not a whole week now. It's fun. :)

If you aren't using a bonus chest, what about collecting emeralds from the Illager patrols, then trading for saplings? Also, I bet someone (maybe even me if enough people want it) could make a modpack that adds more trades to wandering traders, allowing more progression (they would have a high cost in emeralds or other resources to ensure they don't change progression), such as lava buckets, end portal frames, etc.
@superking1002 жыл бұрын
FYI you can't get saplings in the bonus chest on Java but you can get apples and wood. This makes structureless superflat survival even more of a challenge, as you need to get villagers before you can get more wood. Also - you wouldn't be able to make a crafting table even on Bedrock without the bonus chest, so even if you somehow got an apple after killing enough Zombified Piglins you wouldn't be able to convert a zombie villager

if you are on Java edition, it is actually possible to make progression without structures or a bonus chest. So, setting this up isn't as easy in Java as it is in Bedrock.
use a village to get wood and saplings, theres trees there lmao

Definitely makes me want to try this out...
I ended up being a bit inspired to try it out myself, and I got jungle saplings. Needless to say, I've built a treehouse.
I have been inspired, thank you ibx and random peoples worlds.
I think might start one of these playthroughs sometime, ill probably do it with structures on though just so I can get villagers and emeralds
If you get enough villagers in one area you can trick the game into thinking that area is a village and if you get badomen you can do a raid
Pretty sure thats an intended feature
this has been several days ago but ill reply anyways; if u make a villager a house and put his professions in the house, even with just 1 villager can trigger a raid i tried it before
basically what the raid is intended is for to protect any villager or villagers from dying to them so even if just the 1 only villager dies, u lose the raid
ToyCat: You're not gonna be getting torches for a long time coming. Charcoal: I'm standing right here.
You can't get cobblestone on a flat world in Bedrock, so you can't make it yourself with furnaces. The only way to get charcoal is from a fisherman (the campfire), and even that isn't a guaranteed trade. My 1st fisherman didn't sell a campfire, but the 2nd one did.
It's fun. :)
Skyblock is something I play on Java edition. Starting from scratch and creating your own terrain is definitely a different and fun way to play the game.
Toycat just made minecraft history
Ive done superflat challenges in java before. Super fun. Different challenge to this but still a fun challenge. I enjoy it as a sort of nomadic challenge

I may be inspired to give it a try. Now my thought is to immediately dig down and become a trap-door spider. Whatever falls in I get their loot. And then store it all in the chest accessible from the bottom. Of course, plant a tree up there, and a crop. I'm also wondering about making a checker-board of holes above me, or a waffle pattern. They should put a option where you start at the nether, in that option the world spawn would be there so if you die without a bed you go back there, the only thing i think they should do is put iron ore in bastions or basalt delta
You can't get sapplings from java bonus chest.
You don’t need bonus chests in the JE, because structures generate.
When I started my own flat I also started making an addon that increases chances of getting things (like iron) but I've given up on the addon
I love your vidoes
I really like how the updates have been very useful editions for this type of challenge especialllyyyy the lightning rods I was like HOW GOLD but now I know 🤭 XD
when will be the next episode of your flat world survival gonna be?
Thanks a lot ibxtoycat. Now I need to hook up my ps3 and play superflat survival.
When you started in the pig pit I thought it was my world for a sec cause I’m doing a flat survival world and it looks really similar. 😂
I am not sure I would have the patience for a flat world survival, and I still have projects I'm working on in my survival world, or want to do. So I'm ok for now.
Thank you Toycat I'm gonna do this on my phone.
Ive got a small question, how do you enable structures on bedrock? I've been playing on survival flat worlds for some time and I'm quite confused on how
u cant🤡
I've been trying it too in mobile beta 1.19 (the only version with advanced tab in world creation) but it's way harder for someone who isn't as skilled playing as you lol I just barely got water but villages? I don't even know how long it will take for me
Keep trying you die alot making two villagers. I did it under ground collected 4 villager zombies with a hat and carrying something so they woundnt despawn. Dropped a witch in a pitt connected to the underground room then drug with a boat the zombie to the witch stood in between the two of them and waited for weakness
Stone sword on thumbnail looks cursed. Also 3:23 you can't get a crafting table for the gapple w/o Bonus chest
This is why I lloovve superflat worlds, because you can create whatever you want on a super flat world, even on creative!
i created my superflat world before toycat did wondering how easy hen i quit cause i thought it was impossible but then when toycat started making these i started playing again because then i realized how i could get those items i needed
I might start a superflat world with some friends, it would be boring alone to me.
I’ve Been wanting to for ages but I haven’t brought myself to doing it yet I think it will be fun but I’ll need to put in lots of time and effort. It would be fun though
I started a superflat world myself. Currently I have 5 Iron(halfway to water), but I allowed myself to give myself a lava bucket and 12 end portal frames when I get a villager. That way you can beat the game and you can't abuse the lava early game. Also to get to the nether I still need dripstones from a trader to make a lavafarm. But this makes the progression better in my oppinon.
How would you get blazerods for the eyes?
@@flamesfrostbite you use the cauldren and dripstones from a wandering trader to make a lava farm. Then turn lava to obi and make a nether portal. Nether and end isn't changed in flatworlds so you can just find a fortress and kill blazes. Also as a bonus, lava is able to make a cobnle gen which also makes every villager workstations possible.
@@linuslucke3838 dripstones make water unless there is lava on top
@@flamesfrostbite i give myself a lava bucket as said.
I mean, how would you get the crafting table in the first place if you didn't use the bonus chest for the sapling?
I hope Bedrock eventually gets full-on Superflat like Java.
i’m so sad the fall of minecraft hit your channel. you were someone that was a go to for anything i needed for minecraft
