Victoria works for Long Hopes Donkey Shelter. They started rescuing donkeys because nobody did it, and they specialize in senior donkeys. The donkey’s are usually pretty nervous of the humans at first, but once they start to see how gentle and caring they are, they settle in perfectly. They love getting scratches and love getting human hugs. All the donkeys that are a part of Long Hopes Donkey’s live amazing and happy lives.

I worked with horses & the behavior is really similar - first time I interacted with a rescue horse, I was patient & within a few minutes of baby talk & scratches, he was nibbling my shoulder/arm & trying to groom me back. Betting donkeys are even more personable & lovable, they're incredibly smart & more understanding than people realize.

@@earlthepearl6414 - I have a friend who saved a dolphin from old fish-netting that was cutting into its skin. My friend cut it away and the dolphin swam away but came back several times. My friend is convinced that it came back to thank him. I then asked him…in the same way I ask some religious person “How do you know this”? I asked him what I’ll ask you: If you free a bear from a bear trap…and it mauls you…can I assume he is ungrateful? The answer is WE CANNOT KNOW. We’re not bears, donkeys or dolphins.

@@earlthepearl6414 - Can I therefore assume you’re a vegetarian? Why claim love for one animal but not the other? They are, indeed intelligent…but that does not make them human. I love and respect animals enough to let them have their own nature. There is some danger to animals when people anthropomorphize them, giving them human traits. To EXPECT a human response or a “smile” from them is wish-thinking.

Donkeys are so smart and affectionate, they do not deserve their reputation as stubborn.
I never saw so many smiling donkeys at one time. So wonderful they get so much love and care.
I know skeptics like to label this "anthropomorphizing." But it would be truly naive (and arrogant) to think humans are the only animals capable of love, joy, gratitude, etc. Donkeys are among the most EXPRESSIVE creatures with their emotions. Good thing they don't play poker! Beautiful to see.
Yeah well some humans (sceptics) are arrogant, narrow minded, shallow, scared, nervous, jumpy, and stupid, claiming that they think they know what other creatures think and feel.... Donkeys are big beautiful babies that clearly respond to, pets, hugs, scratchiziziz, kissesiz, baby talk, cuddles, treats, apple's, sugar, brushing, and play - play.....
They sure do! One example is that I had a chocolate & a black Lab a few years ago & when the chocolate one passed, the black one was a very obviously grieving. She moped around, would put her chin on my knee & sigh, & wouldn’t go outside unless you went with her. It was absolutely heartbreaking. We ended up getting another just to help her heal.
I had a wirehair that I hunted for 11 seasons. That dog loved me so much. The way he looked at me after we spent a day in the field said it all.

They are Amazing ❤❤❤❤ I never knew how donkeys were so sensitive. So I was on my friend's farm and she was giving me a tour and the donkey went chasing after us for attention and we gave it the donkey cuddles and when it was time to leave the farm area. She had a fly up we were on a 4 Wheeler together. We barely got through the gate and the donkey came running and it threw itself on the ground I never heard a donkey that cried so loud and so emotional It broke my heart I never saw nothing like that in my life It was incredible the witness the kind heart donkeys have Thank you so much for what you do!! 🙏☺️

As humans, how we treat animals says a lot about us. Nothing makes me more upset than seeing a majestic animal like a donkey or elephant or horse being neglected or abused.
Those donkeys are loving the love that they are receiving!! Look at their faces!! What an awesome place.
She’s actually totally right! Animals-not just equines-are hypersensitive to feelings because they’re more greatly tuned in to microexpressions as well as general body language in order to quickly figure out who’s safe and who’s dangerous. Prey animals become more flighty for this reason, and predators more driven to predate. But if you’re totally calm, the animal will likely also be totally calm and your exchanges will be pleasant!

This is wonderful!! Donkeys over the world are used, abused, ignored and generally mistreated. Some people consider them to be dumb beasts of burden, unworthy of any compassion or even minimal care. This gives me hope that some people consider donkeys a noble and worthy of care and love.

I'm a city guy but 20 years ago I was cutting some trees down in a field and this cow came over to munch on the leaves. It was the first time I had seen a cow up close and her eyes were so beautiful.

Any person, that talks to any animal, is a winner in my book. I tell my Abi cat every day how much I love her, how amazing she is, how beautiful she is, and how much I appreciate what she does for me. I will have full blown conversations with her and she will talk back. It makes such a difficult a human animal relationship. And what you are doing for these beautiful sensitive souls is magic.
