This Laptop Has 2 SCREENS - HP OMEN X 2S Review
After using a dual screen laptop in various scenarios (gaming / productivity / creative apps / entertainment), we think this could be the next big thing in laptop designs. The OMEN X 2S is tempting and the dual screen approach comes with actually useful features.

personally, asus did the dual screen right with the ZenBook Pro Duo, the Omen makes dual-screen seem useless.
You're right.
Agree. I dont have this one, the HP Omen, but I do own the zenbook duo with the i7. If you dont think about the abhorrent battery life the second screen is really useful. It takes a a few hours to get used to, but once you have it figured out it works like a charm. Works wonders with "office apps" like adobe. But you can also just put spotify down there while you are just using browsing, which I like. Of course, when it comes to battery life it depends on what you do, for me its between 2 and 3 hours. But I use a lot of of heavy programs, like adobe and video editing so that is most likely the reason for that.
And also they made the second screen 'glossy' which would terribly reflect lights from above. At least ASUS made the second screen matte.
Seems weird that they just have a little screen in the center with all that wasted space on the sides, makes the ASUS ZenBook Duo instantly seem better 🤔

ikr gotta agree with you for that ;)
I agree too! Really wanna get my hands on that one!
1:55 *Okay, $2899 is definitely around $2400!*
Abdullaev Iskandar Thank you for pointing this out. I was watching for it. (:
Eber do the math !
Of course
And here I thought the 3DS was done, but then Nintendo goes and brings out new revision of this dying handheld.
Aleksander Gullanger LOL, I was thinking the same thing. (:
it is a disapointment that they used a lot of space for a glass panel when they could use it either for a bigger screen like asus did or keep the small screen but ditch the rest of the glass and put vents for the fans, again, like asus
I totally agree. I was like "why is the rest of the laptop that way?"
I have the I7 + RTX 2070 version and the temperatures are excellent! The second screen is perfect in scenarios where you need to monitor something (a result of a script for example or a some metrics on a dashboard). It is also useful to pin a reference material you need to come back to.
one thousand american dollars for upgrade from 2070 to 2080 and bigger SSD im getting apple vibes
Good Call! I agree with you.
The intro was gorgeous!
holy crap the intro is insane man thumbs up ;)
Hey, thank you for the review. One question to photoshop, how does it work and does the touchscreen make any difference, meaning using it with a pen... does it work well, okay or not at all? Thanks!
I really like the placement of the trackpad and the DEDICATED MOUSE BUTTONS being to the right of the keyboard. Actual mouse buttons are so superior to them being integrated into the pad. The secondary display, if left where it is with this model, should be able to tilt up to allow for a more natural viewing angle. That would really help. I still prefer the concept we saw a couple years ago of screens that fold or slide out from behind the primary display, offering a triple screen setup in a laptop formfactor. I really hope that comes back onto the scene soon. I'm not much of a laptop guy, but something like that to go along with the noticeable mobile performance we're seeing the last couple years would really be appealing to me.
Great Videos - As Always!
I almost went with the Alienware M15 R2 since I have use their desktops. But, I couldn't pass up this laptop. When I built it on HPs website it was around 2800 bucks. I came across it at a local electronics store for just under 1500.00. I snatched it up and love it!
Great Review.
94c sound pretty good on a render that pushes the cpu well beyond what a game would do?
My Nintendo DS from 2008 has two screens. A far better for gaming
Utilizing throttle stop on that i7 would be very viable in the situation where your idle temps are extremely high. That's what I do with my 7th gen i7 on my MSI laptop. I was seeing idle temps of around 70 to 80. Since I've been using throttle stop, my temp sit around 38-40c around idle
hey ,very nice........can play StarCraft II?the ''2x display can help for something?
How do you chat with your friends on the secondary screen while in a game? Wouldn't typing make your character in the game start doing things while you're typing words? Or are you effectively alt tabbing out of the game so Windows knows you want to focus on the text instead of the game?
the straight pipes!
why is the glossy cover for the 2nd screen, covering the whole laptop from side to side? Could have been used for cooling, or audio, or both..
How does this compare to the fans in other HP Omen laptops, my daughter has one and the fans are very loud and seem to run constantly?
Now here's my question... can you use the bottom screen for ds/3ds emulators?
First off, sorry for the long comment. The way you're using the thermal camera was a little incorrect as far as taking a comparison measurement. The way we usually use the cameras for comparison measurement is as follows: allow the device to reach thermal equilibrium at desired operation, use the auto threshold on the camera to dynamically set the upper and lower limits for temperature, view the device with the camera (would be the laptop in this case), switch to manual mode after the thresholds are set (this should be done with the baseline of operation so in this case the second screen off) which should keep the thresholds set from Auto mode, then let the next test case (laptop with second screen on) reach thermal equilibrium and scan using the manual scale established in the baseline. This should allow the differences (caused by the screen) to be very... Hot so to speak. They should more easily standout. Some caveats can be that auto won't establish a great threshold for the upper limit so it is still difficult to see differences. This can be resolved by manually setting the upper threshold higher than what auto mode sets. I apologize for the long comment, but I love the content quality of this channel and have been subscribed for a while. I want to see you guys do well. I think adding the thermal camera for cases like this is genius, but I want to see you guys execute well on it. Great video as always, I hope this help. P.S. I don't know what thermal camera you guys are using, so I would reference the manual to find out how to access the settings mentioned above. Thanks!
Can the temperature lower if playing on default mode?
When you said num pad instead of track pad I was kinda hoping there was the ability to turn the track pad into a num pad with hidden lighting for number keys
Yeah, like a bunch of the Asus ZenBooks do.
Gotta play some games on that sweet ultrawide next to the keyboard ;)
I really like the idea, laptop screens are to small to multi task so having the ability to throw on a yt video while working is exactly what I'd want. Looks like this implementation isn't great though. The screen being flat rather then raised somehow just makes it seem inconvenient.
i think your cpu temps are a one off situation, because i saw another review and their thermals were around 65 celsuis with full load. Not to mention this unit was not desgined for adobe premiere, get a zbook if you need graphic design and rendering. You need a quadro card for that type of performance and different cpu.
Where is the O-11 XL review?!?
Shoutout to the fellow Canucks Jakub and Yuri on @TheStraightPipes 👏👏👏
What about the hinge? That thing looks dicey AF!
Note to Dmitry: In the Creative Soundblaster commercial, you said "op-amps" using the pronunciation "ohp-amps". op-amp is short for "operational amplifier". it is pronounced "awp-amp".
I want to be positive about these dual screen concepts because we really are at what is realistically the 1st generation of these products, it's early days, there's going to be some goofy short sighted decisions that are going to look a bit embarrassing in the hindsight of later generations - and, the comments here in general said it; the screen NEEDS to be *full width* for this to even be considered potentially acceptable(time will tell if this solidifies into a new market category with some level of feature legitimacy like touch screen laptops or rugged laptops, or if it'll die a fad). Now, I don't believe that this is useless as-is, it's a bit poorly implemented, but you could even use it daily for something as simple as a digital sticky note. I like the thought of keeping a map on it when gaming too. These aren't 'ground breaking' usages, no doubt - but I haven't found any of those for touch screens either, but I do like having the option. Assuming that ergonomic changes and feature cost are as minimal as can be reasonably expected(...dream world just above raw part 'best case scenario' kind of cost), I'd rather have it than not. Of course that's unrealistic, so it just depends on whether any innovative, or even just 'creature comfort', uses come up that outweigh the compromises. Hell, who knows, maybe we're looking at the next evolution in computer work flow - maybe in like 7 or 8 years from now, as they chip away at all of the little 'make or break' details that are the difference between 'compromised' and 'why aren't they all as good as THAT one', or maybe some kind of technological breakthrough occurs that changes how this sort of feature is implemented - old school light bulb-to-LED kind of breakthrough? That may be a bit much; but maybe ultra-thin, flexible screen concepts will make a curved screen that extends over the hinge(maybe a multi segmented hinge?) to the upper edge of the keyboard possible, or maybe something similar? REALLY hope to see some legitimate innovation here - c'mon, rich people, buy all of these crappy first generation ones so that we can have better 2nd, 3rd, and so on generations ones!!!
They should have implemented the second screen that doubles up as the touchpad. Most power users use a mouse so the touchpad is not really used.
I think Asus definitely did it better, but one thing I would like to see is the secondary screen pop up to meet close to the bottom of the primary screen that would give a better aspect ratio for productivity while still being somewhat within view for gamers, and it can provide some better thermals if it opens up vents.
Them dudes from straight pipes !
They should really make the screen extend throughout the entire glossy section, or put 2 other screens on there.
it would be great if I have extra display to see chat log. But i'm working on tablet so nope.
10:55 is this a crossover episode? A TheStraightPipes (great channel) video playing in a Hardware Canucks video.
Big fan of the channel!
Big fan of their channel!
In my opinion they should have made the 2nd screen wider. Like 21:9 or more.
It would be better if it was on the bottom and a trackpad too like the Asus screenpad considered the price.
Just feels like a lot of wasted space next to that display. They could have done anything with those two huge chunks of space. More vents for airflow, additional physical buttons and hotkeys. Heck, how about just stretch the smaller screen to cover the space even though it might be a weird aspect ratio. Also, due to the viewing angles, it would be totally sweet if that screen space came on hinges and you could press a button and it would tilt up to better face the viewer, then fold back down when you wanted to close the laptop.
about the "useful for streamers" to be fair, having an OBS return could be nice, but as a (former, until optical fiber gets back) streamer, i'd rather have the chat on that screen instead of using my phone / tablet for it (also havig two screens showing the same stuff but one wioth a framerate hit bugs me REALLY MUCH (event more when I have a webcam on!)
Interesting!✌️
I thought it was normal for Intel laptop CPU's to be around 95°C in temperature, don't they all get pretty hot? A lot of manufacturers have been needing to down clock them for this reason
Its basically spotify screen because that's very good XD running video on that little flat ascreen is funny
I love the second screen but I think the Zenbook Pro Duo is the perfect implementation of the dual screen laptop design and makes the Omen dead on arrival
It looks like ZenBook Pro Duo's poor cousin. The screen should be much wider with mate finish.
Why dont make a gaming laptop with a macbook sized trackpad (preferable even bigger) and make this a screen to maybe show cpu and gpu clockspeeds and temperatures and to be able to open optimized apps like a calculator that can really be annoying on a small laptop screen if you already have two windows open and if you dont need it it just goes black and works like a simplr trackpad
Asus does it so much better. The 2nd display concept would be useful for me when playing a game and have a walk through guide on the 2nd screen.
As a person that likes gimmicks; I would buy it. (Face plant) I would try to figure out a use for it.
You mean face palm?
Max Weiderer Yeah, that as well. Thank you.
You can criticize the razer kraken x
It's only good as an Elgato, nothing else! The size and viewing angle is unusable.
Yeah I will be sticking to my portable 15.6" USB powered 1080p IPS monitor instead of this TINY thing.
My 1983 Mr. Game and Watch "MARIO" has two screens. 1 Screen left and 1 screen to the right, you had to move items on the conveyor belt. Did anybody else have this playable? :) MW-56 And I have it overclocked too.
And, everyone forgot about the Zenbook Pro Duo...
Nice Video
In my country the highest spec of this notebook is Rp.65 million or about $4600. Crazy!
in indonesia, $4500 for i9/2080
1:55 Eber do the math !
I used the Asus one recently.... it was very confusing.
Let’s get it
Run Touch Portal on the second screen!
What is touch portal?
Making glossy a screen that faces directly upwards seems pretty stupid. It absolutely kills it.
A dedicated button for win+right arrow two times then win+up arrow once. You literally see the window repeating these same steps as if this key was nothing more than an autohotkey script. You know it's a gimmick if they have nothing else for an idea to make it useful than this...
Adding a second screen to a laptop would be a disaster for battery life, right??
Those benchmarks see showing that this isn't as powerful as a Helios 500... What?! How?!
Although not for sale en mass, Razer has a three screen laptop called Project Valerie from 2017.
JFC! Literally about to post my review.... LMAO you fuckers! Also....you made me look stupid in my review with the screen mirroring, so thanks for that 😒
No one needs another thing to remove their focus :/ "only time this would help is if that small screen showed your previous site/folder always only, so you not need to go back and check constant while you work. But mostly this would just be a annoyance i bet edit: would have been 50x better to focus more in a proper button quality/layout instead of that crap we see here
I will personally be sticking to my portable 15.6" monitor that sits NEXT to my screen where it's easily visible instead of the TINY one in the keyboard that doesn't give me anywhere near the same screen real-estate
This is actually kind of cool I feel this would be used a lot for things like discord and streaming without needing a extra monitor also the trackpad being on the side is nice if you plan on using it for gaming
For that money you can get yourself a sleek Ultrabook for portability and a great desktop for gaming... Gaming laptops are a thing of the past, they're not great in both being a laptop or a gaming rig
Gamer moment
cpu temps. there is a difference between silicon can cope and heatsink design is awful.
The price on this thing...
But does it run Minecraft?
Zen book pro duo > 2S
This is at least the 20th time laptop manufacturers have tried to put a second screen on laptops. So far the only halfway decent solution has been the MacBook Touch Bar. Mostly because the software support is shit, Apple is the only one in the position to get the software for these things to an actually usable state.
The proto-type that linus and few people have is much better :P ... ouch 1 hour battery.. better not game
like really fan noise?? come on man, I use to have an old pc which fans sounded like an airplane taking off, fan noise is no concern to me as long as my computer stays cool
Asus: hold my screen
I saw Eber I liked the vid😅
You did not credit the artist on the thumbnail and at 9:42 :( Very uncool. Especially for a content creator, you should know the importance of giving credit to people. A big thanks to Ryky for making amazing art.

Discounted Pro Duo but-not-really ?
Well, without the liquid metal, this laptop doubles as a fire-starter.
It looks like another case of not end user testing it enough. Really is it that hard to get 5 finished models in the hands of gamers to let them test it for a week? If they could have done that then the glitches could have been fixed before being shipped but nope. Well thats on them. It couldve been awesome but they cheaped out along the line so it ends up being just another gimmick when it had the potential to be so much more
age of 2 screens laptops
huh who is that guy?
Putting liquid metal on it, won't make it dissipate more heat. As a tech reviewer, you should probably know…..
No?
@@kandade4563 No.
@@MrGhoula And what is it for then?
@@kandade4563 reducing deltaT of the 2 surfaces during heat transfer. Lets say your HSF can dissipate 100W of heat with 65 deltaT. 25C ambient means 90C and on top of that the delta of chip and HSF. You can reduce further one with LM, but it will still dissipate 100W with a 65C delta. In these laptops, for long term thermal load the HSF dissipation performance will always be the weakest point. But on not full load, you can gain, because heat transfer will be faster.
Really hate the design of the whole laptop, can't stand massive screen chins and the bottom display is a complete disappointment compared to the Asus.
For the amount of money they are asking for, you could build yourself a pretty bad ass PC with two monitors lol and a 2080. I know because I have all of what I mentioned and did not pay 1800 for it.
second screen or not, it's still an HP. i'd never spend that kinda money on anything HP. not to mention, i think it's stupid anyways. i mean maybe i would find a use for that small screen with shyte viewing angle, but i doubt it..
The second screen should have been from left to right. Now it looks like a tiny BS screen.
If I spend two grand on a laptop, it would not be this brick. ASUS doesn't have a second screen, but, it works.
but ASUS does have a second screen now which is bigger that that
@@TheArQu good to know
Smh my head
You should tell the true about this laptop. I bought one and the audio is insanely bad!, If you took easy calls the audios were annoying to hear. It's powerful yeah, but for.the audio is definitely not worth the 3500 USD ... Everything is good with this Laptop, unless u dont care about the audio then go for it. But remember the audio can gets annoying to the point you can get pain in your head.
Asus Zephyrus Duo 15 makes this a gimmicky joke. Great review though.
Man, lol this hardware market is infested with gimmick. Idk it this is a positive or negative, it's a really tricky question
