‘You don’t know my name, so how can you tell me I have an open warrant?’ - This Harris County, Texas officer tried to arrest a Black father in front of his own home after incorrectly identifying him as a suspected criminal from another state.

In Harris County Texas news today, a police officer arrested the wrong man and it was all caught on camera. In this example of racial profiling, Harris County law enforcement approached a Black father outside his home mistaking him for a suspected criminal from Louisiana. Police officers getting owned is not a common sight but these cops (Harris country Texas) were wrong this time. One could argue that this racial profiling short film shows that Black lives matter and more law enforcement training is need to eradicate police bias.

    • And for the department to side with their officer here and do nothing about it after its all caught on video .... victim blaming this guy because he wouldn't show any ID. And, according to Texas.gov's website, it states: "Texas law only requires that you show your ID to a police officer under certain circumstances. These circumstances include: after you've been arrested, when you are driving, and when you are a License to Carry holder carrying a handgun." .... this dude was apparently sitting in his own front yard minding his own business when this cop rolled up. So legally he doesn't have to provide it. Now - that doesn't mean he couldn't have just done so to get this assclown cop to leave him alone. lol I understand he felt it was within his right not to have to divulge that randomly for Barney Fife over here .... but I'd also weigh the ridiculousness and the headache this caused him! Not to mention the obvious too - being a black man in America in a confrontation with a cop!! 0_o

In South Africa if the Police or Traffic cops ask you for your ID you wip it out as fast as you can.They don't ask you twice,once is more than enough. I sometimes get it out before they even ask for it. It's called WISDOM and it's never let me down.

      @seawaterjohnmiller7118@seawaterjohnmiller71183 жыл бұрын
    • @@seawaterjohnmiller7118 Well, to be fair, this scene if we look at it at the judge view, yes i do aggree that this is not a racial problem but more like an individual or a characteristics problem, which is, the cop behaviour is somewhat *"not"* at the level that one should have being an officer. Some people just doesnt have the quality to be a good cop kinda argument. Yeah i aggree. But, at the same time, from the society viewpoint, its also being one of the main reason tho, i mean, this racial profiling thing among the cops. It certainly do and can happen to anybody, but often than not, just because *"not being white"* can cause u more problem than it should be. U shouldnt deny this reality. Coz it is so. Racial profiling is real. And thats a fact. Like i said, being white doesnt makes u safe from these kinda scene but then its way too obvious the differences between a white and a black person in comparisson of getting one. I mean come on, black or brown man can easily being cuffed just by standing still in his own yard in a whites neighbourhood area. White people can just hit 911 and say *"theres a black man standing suspiciously infront of my house"* even tho that black man just stand still on his own property doing his bussines.. and for sure the police will cuff him up real quick. But its not the case for the white people tho?? No?? I mean come on, u will not see a video where a white man got denied to eat at any restaurant just because theyre white. But u will definitely see every now and then where blacks got treated bad, worst, inhumanely. Just because. And that's a fact.

    • It's not "someone", it's the police. I don't know, how it works in the USA, but normally, if someone is suspected to be a criminal, the police of course can come to his/her home to interview or even arrest him/her ... But, first of all, there has to be a REASONABLE suspicion!

      @Nitramrec@Nitramrec3 жыл бұрын
    • Gu Baby... it's very traumatic... I was shaking as I watched the video. The images and emotion in his and his wife's voices brought back an old surpressed child hood memory of my first experience with cops. In the 70's, I was about 15, 2 cops came to our house while we were in our yard and tried to arrest my 17 year old brother. My mom was crying and my Dad was trying to calmly (he was angry and scared) convince the cops they had the wrong person. The cops would not listen they just kept walking my brother toward the cop car. My sisters and I were all crying and scared too. The cops had my 17 year old brother handcuffed and sitting in the squad car when my 20 year old brother came home. He suggested the cops run social security numbers using the first, last and middle names and quess what...the cops had the wrong person. I believe my older brother saved my 17 year old brother's life that day. (Why?) The cops were arresting my 17 year old brother because he had the same first and last name as the person they were looking for...the suspect had MURDERED a cop. If my older brother would not have come to visit that day I don't think my 17 year old brother would have survived the trip to the police station. My point is..that the trauma will last a LIFETIME for the victim and the family.

Officers are also allowed to temporarily detain a person based on an articulable reasonable suspicion that a crime has been committed but maybe it's different in Texas. Can you timestamp the part where the officer assaulted him? I didn't see it watching it the first time. "Stole his wallet" That seems to be at least one thing the officer did that violated the person's rights. "just about every right he has was violated! Are you kidding me rn?!" stupid comment that literally answered nothing.

    • Lets see what happened here. #1. Cop sees a person that he believes matches the description of a wanted suspect. The wanted suspect is black, so the race fits. That is not racial profiling. You dont search for a black woman if the suspect is described as a white male, do you? #2. The man escalates the situation by refusing to provide ID to an officer who has reasonable suspicion that he is the person he is looking for. Giving the officer the ID would eradicate that reasonable suspicion and end this contact in about two seconds. But no, he has to refuse and right it, even though it is a legal detention since the officer has RAS. #3. The officer then cuffs him because he denied giving ID, which means he will be detained for further investigation since it is needed to determine if it the correct man. #4. What on Earth is racist about detaining a person who is the same race, the same gender, the same build, the same hair, the same age, the same weight, the same general description? Who TF else would you look for?! TL;DR The detention was legal. The man escalated the situation by refusing to identify himself and doing basically every single thing you aren't supposed to do including disobeying orders, resisting detention, among other things.
