LYRICS:
SKÅL Gavin Dunne 2023
Raise your horns into the air
There is plenty ale to share
All are welcome, take a chair
And sing a song loud and strong
Men of war and men of care
Maidens fierce and maidens fair
Raise your horns into the air
And sing a song loud and proud and strong
SKÅL!
SKÅL!
Sing loud and strong
SKÅL!
SKÅL!
A toast and a thundering song
At the end of the eve
We'll be welcome and warm
By a great roaring fire
Our voices a storm
In the warm timber halls
We will keep out the cold
As we bellow and belt out
These tunes full of soul
Raise your horns into the air
There is plenty ale to share
All are welcome, take a chair
And sing a song loud and strong
Men of war and men of care
Maidens fierce and maidens fair
Raise your horns into the air
And sing a song loud and proud and strong
SKÅL!
SKÅL!
Sing loud and strong
SKÅL!
SKÅL!
A toast and a thundering song
We're welcome and warm
Our voices a storm
Our voices, our voices a storm
Raise your horns into the air
There is plenty ale to share
All are welcome, take a chair
And sing a song loud and strong
Men of war and men of care
Maidens fierce and maidens fair
Raise your horns into the air
And sing a song loud and proud and strong
SKÅL!
SKÅL!
Sing loud and strong
SKÅL!

A toast and a thundering song

  • This song was made as a tribute to all the fans both new & old who made my Viking/Nordic-themed songs so successful over the last couple of years. Thank you all for the love & support you've shown to me and the Miracle Of Sound project! I'm taking a little break from Nordic/Viking songs for a little while after this , as I don't want to milk it to death & get burned out on it, but I'm sure I will return later at some point (and an alternative version of this song IS coming too!) 😉 Also special thanks to Thor, Espen, Marius and the Norwegian viking crew for the awesome video footage. Don't forget to share with a friend if you enjoyed the song! Big luv and SKÅL! Gav

  • When my dad turned 70, I took him into a restaurant with a viking theme and gave him a little speech based on this song. Told him about how a great song tells about men of war and men of care and how he has always been the best and a totally man of care by taking care of me every second in my life. A big guy with a a beard who looks like a retired viking burst into tears by being so touched.

But I adore how this one is all about community, about there being room for everyone at the table, about fighting the battles together. As someone who has felt deeply alone and estranged in the world, I long for connectedness such as this; with people who speak my language, long to live in the fantasy world I do, and are on the same path as I am. May God bless me with such a welcoming tribe one day. Also loved “men of war and men of care, maidens fierce and maidens faire” outlining the amazing qualities that both men and women can possess. Farms put to the torch, And executions called the blood eagle. Where you would be put upright on a cross and your lungs opened from the back, would be draped over your shoulders. It took a long time to die. King Harold annihilated a viking army at Stamford bridge, before Marching 200 miles south in 6 days, to confront William the conquerers army at Hastings.
