Matt and his brother-in-law, Heath, head out on some ice to hunt ducks and geese. They knock out a hole and set decoys, unsure of what to expect. It turns out to be one of the best duck hunts either have ever experienced! It's pretty hard to top a duck and goose hunt like this!

  • This video should be a standard for exactly how duck hunting should be done! Perfect setup, minimal calling, cold weather and most importantly decoying ducks and taking shots that you know will be deadly and easily recoverable. Having the ability to shoulder your shotgun and not pull the trigger is hard to do. We’ll done!!

  • Matt, your videos are way better than any waterfowl hunting show on TV. They are almost perfect. You lack just one element to attain perfection. You really need a lab retriever to pick up those birds for you. Good dog work is just as satisfying to watch as good marksmanship. Keep up the good work.

  • Great hunt. Brings back memories of some of my late season hunts from years ago. I like the idea of a 28 ga it’s just the idea of trying to find ammunition and not willing to reload again is holding me back from buying one.

  • That was an awesome steady action hunt. I don't know what it is about pintails and canvasbacks, but they are my favorite. It took me years to get my first pintail (Rio Grande River in New Mexico) and one time got into them thick in the Chesapeake Bay. I think they were 10pt ducks way back then and I either limited out or came close. It was 30 years ago.....still remember them spiraling in amongst the black ducks.

  • Man what a hunt!! Does the hot hand on your shotkam keep it from freezing up to bad? I have a Tactacam and last two hunts it had froze up and wouldn’t do anything with a fully charged battery. After getting it home and warmed up worked fine. Guessing it was just to cold?

    • Thanks! Yeah, cold zaps batteries. Doesn't matter if it's a GoPro. Shotkam, or in a DSLR. Have to keep them warm so they'll work.

  • I wasn't able to get a mallard this year unfortunately. Hunting west KY sucks. Killed about 15 wood ducks and that's it. Can't imagine how much meat came from just this hunt. Wild

    • Chainsaw's probably the easiest. I usually use an axe and look for weaker spots in ice (springs, areas with current).
