In this first episode of Rimworld Anomaly, we begin our 500% Randy Random run on the Sea Ice. After obtaining the second part of the archonexus map, five colonists leave the charitable Believers of Boyo to found the Paragons of Pandroth, a technology-centered collective built around the "Transhumanist" meme. Leaving the lush jungle life behind, they settle on the most hostile and life-threatening biome: The Sea Ice. Completely devoid of life and resources, we need to come up with a plan to ensure the survial of five colonists and we need to do so fast, as hunger and cold are soon creeping up on us...

The sea ice is without a doubt Rimworld’s most challenging biome: On these freezing cold ice sheets floating on water, there is no soil for plants to grow, there are no minerals to mine, and there is almost no animal life. Ruins and ancient dangers are also non-existent on the sea ice and even deep drills work differently here, so acquiring even the bare necessities becomes an incredibly difficult task. The sea ice is truly the final boss of Rimworld biomes!
We are continuing this playthrough from a Naked Brutality scenario in Rimworld Ideology and its second chapter in Rimworld Biotech. After obtaining the first two parts of the archonexus map, we select five colonists for the quest to find the third and last piece. As a result, our colonists start with a small amount of items and some starting equipment, but on the sea ice, that is not going to get them far without a good plan and some luck - especially since we are once again playing on Randy Random "Losing is fun difficulty" with the threat scale cranked up to 500%.
With the Rimworld Anomaly DLC, we also see a psychological horror theme added to Rimworld in what is arguably the most unique of the Rimworld expansions. A strange monolith is found on the map and things can soon devolve as horrifying entities appear and threaten the colony in ways never experienced before. In addition, Rimworld Anomaly also adds ways to contain these entities, dark new psychic rituals and a new ending to Rimworld.
Rimworld is a Sci-Fi colony builder simulation game focused on managing a small group of survivors with the goal of eventually building a space ship to escape the planet. Rimworld is developed and published by Ludeon Studios. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, the game went through several Alpha and Beta versions before seeing the release of the Rimworld 1.0 version in October 2018. This playthrough uses Rimworld 1.5, the latest update to the game.

    • A bunch of transhumanist raiders with an affinity for ultratech weaponry living on the ice sheet don't strike me as the type that would, or even could afford to, be sympathetic to one of the only natural food sources on the ice sheet. Maybe if veneration by ingestion is possible.

      @nsmith131@nsmith13117 күн бұрын
    • @@nsmith131 That's something that's always kinda bothered me about how venerated animals work in this game. A lot of animal veneration in real life, both historical and ongoing, is about spiritualizing humanity's place in the ecosystem, controlling the harm we are capable of doing without denying the necessity of consumption. There are and have always been forms of animal veneration which work as depicted ingame, but "this animal is sacred _because_ we eat it" is not uncommon. Feels like a missed opportunity in terms of game design, but hey.

Also almost felt like the newly un-Boyofied colonists were letting out all the pent-up aggression and itching to be mean after being exclusively nice for so long. Also fun to see Elpis taking after his sister and dragging a whole elephant while only 5. Awesome to see your plan executed essentially perfectly. Also glad that the colony STARTS in high gear already, after all the low-tech and slow-climb-up colonies before. This'll really help facilitate exploring all the fun additions of both Biotech mechs and body modding, and Anomaly's new stuff.

    • I appreciate the sentiment, but you do know that charities take admin to operate? The alternative is having a roster of un-paid volunteers who get burnt out and leave at the first available opportunity, resulting in inefficiencies and poorer charity outcomes. Why would you be upset at low-to-mid paid admin staff having a modest quality of life, over CEOs getting considerably wealthy? It seems such an odd choice.

      @AB-gf4ue@AB-gf4ue6 күн бұрын
    • @@AB-gf4ue Totally understand your point, here is mine: I have been personally involved in various national and international NGOs. My honest opinion: 60-80% of them are corrupt to the core and would not pass basic financial audit if done correctly. Hence I pass on 99% of request for donations- not because I don't believe in the cause but because I don't trust the admins that know whats going on. This is why I commend Pete for the due diligence. Surely 1 overpaid CEO is bad, but 10 admins who get their jobs for connections they have and not ratting out the Cesspool they're in is IMO even worse. Yes I do have a big problem with those low-to-mid paid admin staffers and sadly it comes from 1st hand experience. :(

  • New Series really starts with a Banger! I'm looking forward to see how it'll continue! Been waiting for a good sea-ice setting for quite a while as the ice-sheet is actually my favorite rimworld series on this channel and I've been itching for more grim, survivalist content.

  • I thought I was already subscribed after I saw one of your Xcom series, I'm glad that you are still around and making videos and it was just because I wasn't subscribed like I thought as to why I wasn't seeing your videos. I am glad to say I corrected the mistake.

  • Great job, Pete! Looking forward to see how this one develops! It's weird to have the colonists be so brutal after the more charitable Believers of Boyo, but that's how the Paragons roll!

  • the title: “starting from nothing” the video: starts with 40 survival meals, two tamed elephants, research, clothed and equipped colonists with edited genes, an AI persona sword, chemfuel etc. lmao
