How did the come up with the iPhone then? They can do it because the Apple fans now allow them to do it. You guys find ways to explain every and excuse any deficiency has a feature. Not all companies have the luxury of having cult members has customers.
@@josearaujo8616 I mean its understandable though. If you can present a monitor stand for a grand, people make fun of it but it still sells at the end why even bother? There may be a rational argument for a few Apple products if you have cash to burn but the large majority buys out of habit, for status or because they are locked in the ecosystem. It's a money making machine that's hard to mess up.

As someone who uses a lot of apple products and non-apple products, I see a clear distinction between the idea of being “locked” into the ecosystem, and actually just willingly choosing apple’s ecosystem since it is a much more elegant and seamless experience than the alternative. Edit: to be clear, from my vantage point, there isn’t a reason why I couldn’t just buy a non-apple product and use it to it’s fullest potential. It’s just that it is often more convenient to use apple’s alternative because they actually optimize for the user experience.
@@gingsSon it’s not they we’re locked in the traditional sense. I’m fully in the ecosystem Apple Watch, M1 MBA, iPhone. The whole thing and when it comes time to upgrade my phone if I want to get anything other than another iPhone than my watch and laptop both lose a lot of their functions and become a lot less valuable so I’m kinda forced to just get the next iPhone. It’s a decision I’m fine making since I love apples products, but I am locked in a sense unless I’m willing to spend thousands on all new hardware. The simple way of thinking is I don’t want to connect my AirPods to an Android and I don’t want to buy new headphones so I just get the next iPhone.
The calculator on the iPad is going to be the only calculator to be able to divide by 0. Which is why it's taking them so long 😂

And even if a language contains a semicolon it's very obvious in an IDE which line of code is not working. So how exactly someone will stuck for hours for missing a semicolon 🤦🤦

Apple just copies android and gets credit for it
Apple can also afford to spend a lot of time on developing these new features that have already been seen in the Android market because Apple's closed, unified ecosystem allows them to do so in the first place. They know most people won't leave the Apple ecosystem just for some new features on Android devices and so Apple can take it's time with these features without fear of too many people ditching Apple for Android.

I never really thought of it that way, wow. Longer product tenure and stability because it helps stops users from being pressured by the constant new features from other designs. Plus they already know we'll spend much on their products to setup diminishing returns. Much like the economics of a steakhouse.

Most of these features heavily benefit the US consumer base, while googles features are much more global. The best example is the fact that google supports almost all national languages.

As a developer myself, I strongly believe that the new "bleeding" cutting edge tech is what drives the software market in the first place! Apple uses other company's development to their full advantage by watching what new features are introduced and how well it is received. When something catches their interest and they perceive enough interest in the market for it... THEN they will spend the money to implement it using their ecosystem. It has certainly worked well for them! Personally, I'm too impatient and I love the one feature that Apple will not offer... development mode!

Couldn't agree more, I work in DevOps. The amount of start ups that do just one thing exceptional but not so we'll else where that are brought and told to just focus on one certain thing. This really drives innovation, while also creating massive corporations.
Yes . What happens is that one company works on something for a few generations and keep perfecting it each year . And once it's perfect apple just picks it up and take all the credit . And people be like " AppLe aDDed iT aNd it's peRFect " and then those same people say trash about the company which actually brought the new feature , worked on it , perfected it . They say the company brought the product first time and it was not perfect , it lacked this and that . Like if it's the first time of some new tech then it's gonna have some flaws . After a few generations of improvements only it's going to be perfect. They don't understand that .
I can definitely understand this viewpoint. For me though, I barely even know what Google does. I do own an Galaxy Note 20 for work, but I seriously only use it for Slack. Nothing about it has made me want to switch. It is not a bad device at all, but I am just so locked into Apple that I do not care what anyone else has. Almost all of my tech devices are Apple or Apple Friendly, so when something new is introduced, even if others have it already, it still feels new to me. This is why I never understand the Google crowd who always scream "we've had that for ages." Great, but now I have it and I like it.

Marques, I'm a rare viewer, but I wanted to compliment you on your evolution of insight. There was a time when you would have been less inclined to appreciate patience for the sake of a polished cross-platform experience. I know it's no surprise to your regular viewers, but I appreciate this evolution, and it has made you one of the most thoughtful tech journalists around.
He always new apple had good cross platforming. Who didn't know that. The issue was just people, including him, didn't like iOS. And the fact that the cross platform only works well with other apple devices and not everyone want apple everything.
I still remember how Apple celebrated the copy/paste text feature in a TV AD "This is the iPhone 3GS, the most powerful iPhone yet, it let you do incredible things, like copy/paste a text or a phone number"

Hi Marques, thanks for your great video with this interesting topic! Since years I wanna get great new tech asap, but since I am an Apple customer I see they are very late but then their solution is mostly great. My personal example for that: I need a call filter because of too much issue with unwanted calls. Apple had no real solution for years. Rejection of calls with number suppression did not exist for years. We only got it with iOS 13, but in September 2021 we'll get Focus. That kind of profile control has been available for Android since years from third parties, but as a comprehensive solution it is better than ever before anywhere. I'm really looking forward to that! Also Live Text is a pretty cool and very useful feature!
Answering your questions at the end, I would say I prefer more of middle, be innovative and take your time to make it right, but be innovative
From a Pixel user (and former Nexus line), i do love how google pushes the envelope. The change to Pixel was a big step in making everything smoother, but the issue with silos for Google i think are that there are so many projects that there is sometimes a lack of cohesiveness and a duplication of services. This then results in projects getting dropped or stalling out. I do sometimes wish for more integration.
I have the Pixel too. Whole family use apple ecosystem. I think if Microsoft and Android would talk to each other more often and get on the same page, they would checkmate the landscape.

I've been an Android user for a decade but I got the iPhone SE to see what it's like over there and I have to say... I might make the switch. Something to be said for cohesion

iMessages... We've been waiting for how long for a legit android alternative to iMessages, and it still isn't anywhere close to happening! Over the years Google has created and killed off countless chat/messaging apps, it's ridiculous. And Google actually moved further away from a unified messaging app when they killed off gchat/google voice integration. Just give us a nice unified messaging/chat app like iMessages!

Actually, some of the features reminds me that they have occured for years. Such as dragging cursor from PC to Pad, it did happened in Huawei Phone. And lately, I would say the HarmonyOS is more attractive for me recently.

@@curie1420 Yep he absolutely does. The topic here is "Why iPhone's Features are Always late"... you can have all the charts and graphs you want, but this is largely a philosophical discussion. Generating charts and numbers is great for some subjects, not for other. Regardless, interpretation, insight, and the ability to understand something and explain it succinctly is way more rare than people who can generate data. That is why this guy has so many viewers.

Besides being "late to the game" for integration sake, Apple allows the Android market to validate features that are popular (e.g. larger phones). So Apple is using Android companies to do it's beta-testing or prototyping, and then adds its typical Apple flair and polish.

Of course, it's easier to piggy back, when u seen it before. For 200$ more it's seamless. Not worth it when u consider that u can make it seamless too on android for any google device. Developers out their have created software for any google product to seamlessly work and most of it is free. It dose take time for new features to be implemented but they don't for free, not like apple.
This is probably the most neutral and logical comment in this comment section, thank you. I'm team Samsung and even I think this is smart of Apple. I will never call them innovative because well, stealing ideas isn't innovative. But the ability to improve existing software without risking anything (because like you said, other companies do the "beta testing") is seriously impressive. Apple is definitely leaps ahead in integration and ecosystem strategy. I think it's pretty predatory since you literally can't leave the ecosystem once you're invested in it. But it's really damn smart, business wise.
And it doesn't effect Android phones at all rather it helps them, so its a win - win, basically most of the android users would generally want more features and faster integration of those features rather than completely 100% polished features, of course this is not everybody but most, whereas most iPhone users would want less features if it means that the features they have are going to be completely integrated and fully polished and well built, so apple in a way helps android phones by not doing features quickly as that leaves the market open for android competitors whereas on the other hand android helps ios by integrating features before then which allows them to well utilise the information and the beta testing that android did to apples advantage.
Apple needs to do something with the extra space on larger phones though. I mean makes no sense having more screen and not being able to capitalize on it and this is where they’re taking to long.
The fact that they showed the ugliest possible Android phone from 2017 during the FaceTime demo is SO Apple.

I love the polish personally. I love the new bleeding edge stuff, but if its not super usable right away its hard to integrate. Unless something fixed a really annoyance or problem for me, I will probably forget about it. Thats one of the reasons I love apple products, features I use that few other people use, like imessage screen sharing, work great!
I remember every single iPhone user I talked to saying widgets and picture in picture is just stupid gimmicks. Now their home screens are filled with widgets.

Well implementation is key. Don’t have an iPhone, but on my s20, most widgets are clunky and very poorly optimized to the point I don use any other than weather or maybe calander. Also, widgets have come a long way. They were absolutely shit at the beginning.

I have an iphone 11, I had it for more than 1 year now. What I like about it is that I can keep this for another 3-4years and still expect ios update support. I also have an android phone and what I like about it is it's flexibility and connectivity. But ironic enough, I enjoy and more excited customizing an iphone more with jailbreak, knowing that one simple mistake could leave my phone brick and not eligible for warranty/insurance.
Marques, I think you missed mentioning that though Apple’s integrated ocr is late, iOS users have been able to run Googles’ via their native iOS app or widget!

Google innovates fast but there is a lot of features that end up not making sense in their ecosystem and a lot of useful apps end up being sunset. That’s how they messed up their multiple message apps or google+, they seem to not have the patience and synergy
GTalk, Google+, Hangouts, Alu, Meet and a few more... They are never content.
Be grateful bcz of them others can step forward and make amazing things , software invitation mostly cz of Google and hardwere upgrades from Samsung and mostly Chinese companies

I like being able to opt-in into bleeding edge (or install it via 3rd party) - I hate missing out on current trends, but, when a feature is being rolled into production I expect rock solid stability and polish for which I don't mind waiting. I need both
You're missing the point, Google doesn't just roll out a feature if it isn't polished, Google Assistant, Google Camera, Pixel Launcher, Google Lens, all this innovation(if you want to consider it) everything has been stable since day 1. What Marques wants to point out is, Google doesn't have the ecosystem to see if their new features works with some other device or not, not right now, Apple can do that, but Apple think, wait, I have made a notification system which makes it possible for user to get only work related notifications for some time, but users don't only receive work related notifications on phone, they might get it on their PC as well, so wouldn't it be great that once a user activated this focus mode, it gets activated for all their devices or when deactivate gets deactivated for all devices so users don't have to go through the trouble of turning it on/off for all the devices individually, and they take that much more time to develop it for other devices as well, their whole ecosystem. And apple have that ecosystem lock in, that walled garden, the king of which is the iPhone to make this stuff possible and make it appealing to users to buy other Apple devices and further lock them in this ecosystem.
the screen sharing idea that was "new" is a whole program on win/andriod called syncplay its basically an app that launches the media player on both devices and syncs all actions on them
Yes, but Apple have it super well integrated natively so it doesn’t come as a separate app - and that allows for much better performance. Think about if you want to quickly share your screen on FaceTime - you know both parties already have the app, whereas a separate app needs both of you to already have installed it, which may not be the case. That’s the point of this video.
This is a dev api that will work with any app. Not the same.

As a user I always appreciate when features are integrated well and work relatively seamlessly. As a tech nerd, I love seeing the boundaries being pushed. Even if that means something isn’t as resolved.
Me to a TEE....I am a tech nerd through and through and love products that push the envelope even if it means a little less polish. But I'm also a sucker for anything that is integrated so well that it is seamless and just works.
It's changed for me over time. As I've gotten older I definitely appreciate a well developed feature that just works. Been burned too many times by the new bleeding edge features. I still enjoy them, but I prefer hearing about them from others rather than having to own it immediately myself.

I agree. I am using my first iPhone after 10 years of Android and overall I am enjoying it... but I can't believe you still can't position icons on your home screen anywhere you want. I don't know how this is taking them so long.

Hi Marques, when you reviewed the first phone you used with 90/120hz, at that moment if someone told you that we would be staring down an entire iPhone lineup still at 60hz in 2021, how would you react?
iPhone 13 pro has a 120hz display with a battery life that kills all its competitors. So once again, Apple does this feature correctly (despite being late) instead of just throwing raw battery capacity at the problem

A lot of these things also were in conflict with the privacy Apple flag shipped. So the text recognition in images was on hold until they had the capability of on device analysis.

i personally use android as my main but i do have an ipad. i find it heavily annoying how the app icons and widgets just seem to snap to whatever place on the homescreen they deem usable, which messes up my layout and i have to spend another ten minutes struggling when it’s a simple fix on my phone.
Already know it, but gotta watch for the quality presentation.

Oh I’m an Apple guy and yes I stick with Apple for its ease of use not just for me but the family ecosystem and seamless integration. It is important to me than things work seamlessly not to just get the latest and greatest features.

This is the main difference. Android drops something awesome and new but it doesn't necessarily work properly. They keep on making it better and better over time. Apple releases something relatively old, but its stable and it mostly always works out of the box. BOTH ARE DIFFERENT CLASSES, EACH MADE FOR THEIR OWN TARGETED GROUPS.

I agree, I've been an Windows user all my life (and Android user since it came out) but during the last 3 years I've switched completely to Apple. Age is a real factor in this kind of decisions.
But they took years to completely bake their stuff like widgets which are restricted as well
For speed, there's iPhone and now Mac with M1. I used to be an Android fanboy and always bought the latest Samsung, which to me used to be the best company but the last straw was with the S10+ that I had. I got tired of half-baked features that were only promising on stage but on real life they were always clunky and just didn't work seamlessly like on iOS. I also hated that performance on Android was amazing the first few months and then it would feel like a midrange phone (still have my S10+ with Android 11 for backup and when I casually use it I get shocked at how bad the software is for it being a 3 year old flagship)

uhh android has had widgets for years and their widgets are still arguably just as good as apples. Its debatable but i do know id rather not wait years on years for a slightly better feature. If apples widgets are truly that useful then why would you be saying you are willing to wait years for it.

I’ve always appreciated Apple’s more “refined” approach to adding services and things to iOS/Mac OS/etc. They may not be the first to do it, but they usually end up doing it the best.

I've never been a huge Apple fan and although my family still owns a few Apple devices, I have always gone towards Android for my phones and Windows for my computers but I have to admit that the extra time for Apple to implement features is often worth it. As it often feels like Apple takes their time because they know their final result will be better than the competition whereas, the rest of the industry immediately implements whatever features Apple comes out with as they are fearful of falling behind. It just portrays confidence and often a better result with Apple.

If it was 2010-16, I'll take apple anyday, android was garbage but the new android and new snapdragon makes the iPhone outdated...old androids had good features but horrible chip and use to lag alot...now every phone is fast...

I'm an Android Windows person as well. I just don't care for the Apple ecosystem. I hate using Mac and iOS is a pain for me to use. I'm always helping someone at work with their iPhone and i just get frustrated navigating it and searching for basic settings. I don't have the patience to use their software. Even perfectly engineered as it is I wouldn't call it groundbreaking. If it weren't for the social pressure it wouldn't be as special.
