This guy could make an appliance manual exciting to listen too. This is perfect narration.
Facts
He could read a telephone directory (phone book) and We would listen.
Totally agree. He has a fantastic voice for narration.
"talk of politics was strictly forbidden, everyone had had enough" boy, that line aged well didn't it :D
The little match girl. My grade 1 teacher thought this was "good material for story time" when I was 6 years old. Never forgot it.
Its a good story for children here in denmark.
😢 Thinking about it now, I'm wondering why she didn't try going to the church, or maybe back to the person who gave her the matches to sell. It's such a quietly brutal little story.
I know it's two years old but wonderful reading. I've been wanting to hear a good copy of The Family of The Vourdalak since I saw the 1972 film Night of Devil's earlier this year. For those reading it is a film adaptation of the story.
Fantastic selection! The Tolstoy story is one of 3 stories included in one of my all-time favorite movies..."Black Sabbath", Boris Karloff's performance as the grandfather is beyond brilliant and the script stayed true to the story, sans child flinging 😗 Thx so much for these treasures!
I think the best stories are written by the best writers and whilst Dracula came first and l love it , l don’t think many would rate Bram Stoker a better Writer than Tolstoy. Hence, this has become by far my favourite vampire story.
@@davidwhite7294 Yep, there are levels to this game
The Little Match Girl left me wanting to believe in ghosts, spirits and a good afterlife. HCA himself probably walked past kids like this every day back in the mid 1800's, knowing he couldn't help them all or make their world any safer...it makes the story that much more bitter tasting/soul destroying.
These stories have become my bedtime ritual for over a year now. I look forward to the last part of my day when I get to pick from hundreds of great stories and sublime narration. Much appreciated.
This is quickly becoming my favorite Channel. I've got lots of catching up to do on all this stuff you've put out there and I want to keep up on the new stuff as it comes out. I listened to the first story here on my way home from work. I got home and parked the car but the story wasn't anywhere near over yet. I just sat in the car and couldn't stop listening till I found out how it all ended. It was great and I don't know how I never encountered that story before. Thanks so much.
OMW... The Little Match Girl, is so touching!
more like dying inside with every reading.
HorrorBabble is definitely the best audio books site there is. best readings hands down. The Sandman is one of my favorites. i have listened to this one several times....oh oh good night my dear friend!
1:02:00 you ever get so hungry you throw a javelin with a kid on the end to catch your food
I was listening to The Family of the Vourdalak and was wondering what kind of drink could be made from Pears, honey, and raisins thinking it was probably fake for the story but I found out that it isn't fake and can be found on a site for Ukrainian cooking. Very interesting! 🥰
It sounds like a version of Perry, which is from pears, as Cider is from apples.
Not the little Match Girl!! The saddest story in the world!!!
I truly loved this foreign collection. So intriguing and you read with such intensity, I was held captive throughout. It went from the macabre like the vampires to the sweet Match girl. Thanks for this great collection.
Thanks for the early Christmas present of this great recording!!
This was so enjoyable. Thank you so much. Best stories ever.
Thank you, Horror Babble, for reading all these stories, both familiar and unknown. I absolutely love your narration. And I am pleased by your choices.
Awwwwwh! That last story,i just woke up and heard that and the one before it. Spin wooden dolly! Sounds like my kind of luck! Everyone should donate to you guys. Ive been lulled to sleep and also heard whole stories so,so many times.
Hoffman had a fantastic imagination. Der Sandmann is his best and most bizarre. His original Nutcracker and Mouse King is far different than Tchaikovsky's ballet.
I'm so looking forward to relaxing with this after a busy , tiring day !! 💙🎄🎅
Clara’s a good influence, we could all use someone this good in our lives. Trauma can really mess up a person’s worldview. A story that still chills through the ages. Great reading as always, too.
Your narration skills have come a LONG WAY! I subbed today!
Thanks Kim!
Insane compilation delivered in an insanely pleasing manner! 🖖🏼

Great stories.
Loved the retelling of the stories of my youth thank you.
Thank you.
Thanks again for moe great narrating of awesome tales.
I read Hoffman's story a few years ago. It was interesting to see the difference between reading and listening to it.
148K subs for one of the best sites on KZhead? Criminal.
The story about a Yuki in Japan the snow Maiden, is a copy or the same as a story from France, about gargoyle the gargoyle was killing someone and a man saw it, the gargoyle approached him and said you must tell no one what you have seen tonight for if you do I shall kill you. The man kept his secret and became very famous after he met a beautiful woman they had fallen in love has two children boy and a girl they shared everything and is deep love. One night he told his wife on their anniversary after the dinner it's been 10 years of pure happiness and I've been sharing everything with you but there's one thing I've kept secret from you my wife and now I wish to tell you, so he showed her a drawing of the gargoyle and told the story to her, his wife started shrieking and she said oh, I told you never to tell a soul you have destroyed everything I love you I cared for you I gave you children you have destroyed us now I will take your life, he begged her but I love you please don't don't you see I love you yes I know you do and I you but you know A promise is a promise you have broken it and she began to change and painfully change to a gargoyle and the children woke crying changing as well to gargoyles she killed him as he said no no no no looking at his children change and she took her children and flew off into the night👌👍❗🖤🕷
Awesome - thanks for sharing this! :) Ian
Tales from the Darkside the Movie did that.
@@AssignmentIntoEternity yes,I was trying to rememder which show that was. It was a good one. Thanks for reminding me.

@@HorrorBabble Its like I said in a comment once....Horrorbabble is like that first bite....instantly I am.. on the deck of the Natchez...hey if you watch Interview with the Vampire, and Louis, Lestat and Claudia are having the "When did you eat RATS Lois??" discussion....you'll see the Natchez in the background, right...?? The last time I was on the boat I sat between the letter N and A on the sign...watching the fog roll by...I'm sure it was probably green screened in or something...but its weird. I miss my home by the River.
I hate that when those vampires throw their kids at you.
Ian you should do The Room in the Dragon Volant by Sheridan le Fanu
Thanks for the recommendation - feel free to submit a request here: www.horrorbabble.com/contact
Just found this, enthralling!
Thanku 💚
Dear Mr Tolstoy, How did the grandpa manage to return from the grave if they'd done the old stake routine? How did the girl have time to rebraid her hair before leaping on to the back of a flying horse? Dear Horror Babble, Thanks for another great narration. They should have taken notice of the poor dog...... And the horse. 🤷🏼♂️😹
I like the stories. But the ads are a lot creepier.
in the first story, the imagery of them impaling the boy on the stake and then using it to fling the boy onto the man and horse as he rode away struck me as funny!!!
Gina, please be considerate and give spoiler alerts!
Haha, I thought the same thing!
@@Chezbo lol!!
@@cynk956 seriously?? Dont read the comments before you watch the video!! How ridiculous! I have never seen anyone give "spoiler alerts" when discussing a video in the comment section. Most people are smart enough to realize that the comment section is the place where people discuss the video!! Do you really think people generally go to the comment section and talk about what they think the video might be about?? No they do not..they discuss the video! Maybe you should just be smart enough to assume that it is going to be dicussed... so here is your *_SPOILER ALERT FOR ALL NARRATIVES YOU WATCH ON KZhead FROM HERE FORWARD_*
****SPOILER* *ALERT:**** something real funny happens at the end of the first story
Breakfast with #HorrorBabble From a retired forensic science teacher and tarot card reader
The second story has a very good moral to it
Story 1, thinking with your little head can often lead to problems.
Cheers! Thanks for another great video!
Spoiler alert. First story - "Vampires using their babies as projectile weapons!" Second story - "My mom is literally magic!" Third story - "I love smell of cooking rat in the morning!" Forth story - "Lol suddenly robot." Fifth story - "That was genuinely upsetting"
You didn't give out an enough information for it to be a spoiler alert.
Yep came here after listening to Xanth novels by piers anthony. His books have a version of the little match girl.
Excuse my ignorance but can someone give me the back story on 'You fool! Warren id dead!'. I'm sure it's been asked loads but please humour me. Thanks :)
I say old boy....I prefer my steak medium rare ribe eye hot off the grill, soy, garlic an Tabasco red....not quite that fiberous😄....sluuuurrrrpp....growl...😈😈. I would be interested in constuction of a modern yet classic version of a vampire dispatch kit😄holy water and oil, garlic and such are easily aquired, but the proper woods for the stakes, a handy amount of silver, and a few UV LIGHT grenades sans explosive compounds...aka BLADE STYLE...might be desired😄
❤
So... did anyone find the ending of the first story absolutely hilarious? From the idiot's hope to get laid one last time to the absurd chase at the end, it kind of broke the atmosphere tbh...
This sounds like scott from Zero Charisma
These stories are great. Your narration, as always, is amazing! The Little Match Girl always brings tears to my eyes! Hans always makes this old warrior cry. Thanks for bringing these amazing stories to us!
Tolstoy's story brings out the reason for the 1990s war in Serbia/Kosovo. Memories of abuse by the "Turks" die hard.
Shouldn't it be three skeleton quay?
Spoiler alert#####$ Holy crap, impaling a kid on a stake to javelin him at a man on a horse. This is twisted and funny.
I figure he put him on top of the stake like on a catapult arm. Because otherwise i wonder how would you launch something impaled on a stake while still keeping hold of the stake itself?
I seem to be invisible in comments sections (blocked or otherwise). @HORRORBABBLE pls acknowledge existence?
Certainly not blocked CW - we're only just catching up with comments.
The second story was pretty sad 😥. Poor guy
