i am taking a final exam tomorrow on The Sandman.. i am blessed with your fine work mister, i thank you from deep my heart
Coincidentally, I've noticed as adult, people have adult fear that keep them up at night. Debt, politics, and health problems are enough to give anyone nightmares. I use your chilling readings to push out real life boggie men, and replace them the unreal. I find a host of unreal monsters make comfortable company to sleep with. Thanks.
I can relate to that! Thanks again Kiki.
I have true adult fear...two daughters!
People think ADIT ADDICTS is joking. He is not.
@@Kikilang60 The fear is very real my friend... Very real. Lol
@@ADITADDICTS Yeah that hits close.. I'm TERRIFIED of having little monsters, but sometimes it's unavoidable 😱
The nutcracker is based off of one of his stories
Superb - as always. Hoffman is often overlooked, and I recall the Sandman, plucking out eyes for his moon-nested offspring, being a chilling vision! And his "The Forest Warden" was another deeply disturbing tale!!! Thank you so much for your always outstanding narrations!
I'll check that one out - thanks Julian!
He was also a composer *and artist.
Nice touch near the end with the voices through the door. It surprised and pleased me.
Hoffman's Nutcracker and Mouse King, the basis for Tchaikovsky's ballet, is much darker and more unusual from Tchaikovsky's version.
Am i the only one that keeps hearing metallica in the background or has all the headbanging in the 80s n 90s affected me lol. Very well done as always
🤘
🤘😝🤘
This was a great help! One of the only other readings of this work and much much better than anything else available for free. Much appreciated!
Thank you for breathing life into this gem! Didn't know it but it's up there with my favourites. Love the balance between oh so normal and totally out there. Very intriguing facets.
You are a brilliant story teller!
I am really digging this "foreign shores" series. Very cool, thank you Horror Babblers!
E. T. A. Hoffmamn was also a noted composer-his music's on youtube.
I keep coming back to this story, and I'm not sure why. It fascinates me, and even though I know the story, I so much enjoy the way it's told (and narrated). I have no idea if other E.T.A Hoffman stuff would float my dirigible, but I feel compelled to seek more out.
Great story and narration! It's much better than the Netflix show! Thanks!
Thank you!!!! Grew up with stories of the Sandman!!!!
Wow! One of the best stories I have ever heard you read.
Thank you for this wonderful reading. Well done!! Just think, this tale of Hoffmann’s is one of the earliest, if not the earliest of its kind. It has inspired countless works of art and artists, unique in their own right, across genres, across time and space all over the world.
Amazing work, thank you very much!!
This was such an amazing reading 🖤 thank you!
Crazy. Love it!
A great rendition, thanks

Is E T A Hoffman also a pianist and music composer ?
@@canman5060 He tried to find a career in that. He had limited success. Most of his music is lost.
The ballet 'Coppelia' was a childhood Christmas treat. Coming on the original story at Christmastime this year is delightful; mystery and ghosts and such for Christmas, a tradition in my family. Thank you! And Merry Christmas to all!
Brilliant narration. Goes well with the music of B. Lustmord.
That’s funny I was just thinking of the story and it came up in my feed the next day. What a masterpiece.
Just wonderful! I would LOVE to hear you read Lazurus by Leonid Andreyev as one of your foreign stories. It is one of the most scary and disturbing stories I've ever read, and hearing you read it would give me utter joy/dread!
Thanks Soma - I chose The Family of the Vourdalak over Lazarus for this series (I opted to represent 5 different nationalities), but I'll certainly be recording it in the future.
HorrorBabble Brilliant, I shall wait with bated breath!
This was one of the first stories that I heard on this channel. It's cool to see it remastered. ☺️
thanks this was done really well
You helped me a lot in my studies. Thank you
Tale Foundry brought me here
Super helpful for my Lit class! While listening I thought it was probably a mistress going to the father's room at night. When he said "strange vapors" filled the house I was like "DANG they must really be getting it on!!!", then when it was confirmed to be a man who visited the house for dinner I thought maybe the father had some kind of scandalous in the closet type arrangement! When I thought it was a sex thing and it starts going into how ugly the guy is, I was more disturbed than by the actual creepy parts. I'm dying lol!
wonderful reading. you made it a scary story instead of a real one, which would have made very sad, as some commenters have mentioned. it’s late and i’m not saying this very well, but thanks for making it like Edgar Alan Poe - just scary and fun.
This should have been called beautiful eyes beautiful eyes instead of the Sandman. Poor Nathaniel
Looking forward to this one. Der sandmann is one of my favourite books. Only read it in german though i sm quite interested in listening to it in a Translated form
Which translation are you reading? there's several and each one is slightly different from the other.
I want an Olympia! Ooh,oh,oh.....
I guess this is a novella not short story
What translation was this? It was excellent.
Hmm... I can't recall - If I still have the text, I'll let you know.
@@HorrorBabble Actually, I found it in the end: it's by Ritchie Robertson. The text isn't available to download, sadly, but I was able to read it online.
@@himmelblau23 Ah yes, thanks for reminding me.
Petra L ih
Ah. A little something for later.
whose translation is this?
I’m so confused right now
I kind of hate to say I enjoyed this tale of pitiful madness.

I wonder why your audio does not match what my book is reading.
It's likely to be a different translation.
@@HorrorBabble it's been every audio version of the book. It's weird. I've tried 4 different versions and they don't match.
Ah, German fairy tales
I hope you are re-monetized here!!
Thanks Robert! I'm not holding my breath though - they've killed 2 of my channels now. It's making it really hard for me to want to continue using this platform.
@@HorrorBabble What other options are there? (I'm old and don't understand this witchcraft known as the internet! :) )
Well, I hope audible treats you better, you should put actual links to the audible, iTunes, and spotify pages of your work. I hope youtube is at least good advertising for you.
@@BlueDemon77 Few! Our preferred platform is Bandcamp, though it lacks the community feel we have here on YT: horrorbabble.bandcamp.com/audio
@@muninrob There are too many links to list them all really - but I do appreciate what you're saying. Good advertising, if nothing else!
