Crysis Remastered - Ray Tracing Comparison (featuring Ray-Traced Reflections)

This is a native ray tracing implementation and not a reshade mod.
Even with real-time ray tracing still being in its infancy, I believe RT will become more important with current and coming generation hardware, so I created this channel with the intention of covering ray-traced games. There are plenty of channels doing mainly performance comparisons, my intention is to focus on the visual aspect and make the differences more obvious through my videos.

Me trying to find reflections in a jungle 👀
Atleast this game better than 2023 online games
You make by far the best comparison videos 👍
Maybe its just my flawed memory but I remember the water in Crysis vanilla looked more natural. This looks too oily.
@Gideon October i think they also used the console port as a bases of the remastered lol. kinda lame but i dont mind too much
The original looked better than the remaster
@@jericosha2842 No it doesn't, remaster looks better than the original.
Yeah, well, the original shader was designed to be standalone, which is why adding RT makes it a bit unnatural. Many games that are RT conversions after release have this issue.
@@ThunderTheBlackShadowKittyI’m on next gen console and haven’t played the og on pc or what not BUT. I can confirm the remaster on next gen with Ray tracing enabled on a nice monitor looks fucking incredible. As someone who’s been to hawaii this is the closest I’ve gotten to a tropical island in a game. The trees, shadows, bushes, reflections, mountains all look incredibly realistic even for todays standards.
Here, let me coat the world in shiny plastic just like we did when bump mapping came out in the late 90s...
Nice. Reflections are my favorite part anyway so, This is good for me.
Great comparison 👏
I think guns are often rendered seperatly on top of the scene and aren't physically there in the world, so that might be why it's not showing up in the reflections. (not sure about this game though, so I may be wrong.
I mean sure, but many games have guns present in the reflection, hell the remaster of the 2nd and 3rd game have it, so it's no excuse.
@@TheBadger its pretty difficult to actually model a gun physically and also make it look like that in first person and you probably have to in order to get the ray tracing to work. This is usually a trick so they would have to completely rewrite this part. Instead of delaying they probably just decided to leave it like that.
@@asyncasync exactly, like in doom eternal that also the doom guy look strange from the first person and the reflection, weapons too
I noticed that while the original has a more realistic color tone the remaster (specially in maps like Relic or Recovery) matches the color grading of the pre rendered Crysis intro (specially in the part where the suit stops the bullets).
Reflections are nice but a gamechanger would have been to include Global Illumination. :( I would have played it again of that had been included.
Yeah would have actually been worth another play through with global illumination. That aside, this was a low effort "remaster". IMO looks worse than the original in many ways.
There is actually the game has it even without rtx put a red barrel next to a stone and its generally visible
I remember playing this on my GeForce 6600 128mb. with a mix of low to very high settings.
i remember playing this on an amd sempron cpu :D
this game looks god damn gorgeous even without ray tracing
Looks great, wonder is the gta 5 enhanced edition with ray tracing is coming to pc
Is this the same software RT used by Xbox one X?
Is this still software raytracing? If so, I wonder how much better it could perform if there was a hardware accelerated option for rt cards
It's RTX supported hardware ray tracing in the remaster.
@@culveyhouse Nah, still software raytracing showing off CryEngine's ray tracing.
@@jonny-b4954 Nah, still RTX hardware ray tracing as confirmed my the game's specs and Nvidia's driver update when this game was released.
In GTA 5, awesome reflection on the water, without any RTX.
lets go
Wake up bro it's 2007
My 2007 PC can't run this ☹️

I hope Crytek remasters Crysis: Warhead in the follow up to developing the next game, Warhead deserves it and they could generate some hype with it.
It would be even more impressive if they implemented path tracing in a later update.
does AMD RX570 supports ray tracing?
it could use ultra realistic textures. And somehow the light still seems so wrong
It's absolutely crazy that just adding some fancy lighting makes this game look better than 95% of other outdoor setting titles. Like really. Recordings don't even do it justice. Battlefield, CoD, to this day can barely stand next to Crysis 1. And CryEngine 5.7 embarrasses UE5.1 in outdoor scenes it's a damn crime you don't see it used more. That's not even getting into the fact that Crysis has more physics than 99% of modern titles too. Damn last gen consoles and their terrible single thread CPU performance truly put us back a decade in game physics, it's sad.
what gpu is minimum for decent ray tracing?
I think it depends what resolution you're aiming for. RTX 3070 can do ultra settings and ultra raytracing at 1080p easily, maybe 1440p too and 60fps on some games, but not 4K with RT. 3080 can do ultra RT at 1440 60fps+ easily. But if you want 4K ultra settings + ultra RT, you need a 3090ti to reach 60fps.
@@MegaDante4 If you use DLSS - RT 3060 is pretty much all you need for 60fps 4k in most games
@@ArkadiuszOlszewski966 it's a joke right?
@@MegaDante4 No. Only two games that didn't hit 60 fps with maxed settings and dlls on on my computer is control and cyberpunk. I didn't test all of RTX supported games but I tried a lot, and most of them - are running nice and smooth
I tried playing the remastered trilogy with rtx on vs off and didnt notice much of anything. Only thing i notice is that i lost about 20 fps.
😂
To be perfectly honest, RT at this point would be a great 'addon' to have, BUT it's not yet impressive enough to justify the cost of 4090 and new power supply and cpu to compensate RT's huge FPS drops. And also, electricity bills.
I agree for the most part, with some great exceptions like Metro Exodus
@@RayTracingRevolution Well no excuse in justifying wasting $2000+ on pc equipment just to enjoy some real time pathed rays for now. Like ambient occlusion, one day RT won't cost us as much power and money. That's when RT will become the standard imo. But that's just me. Someone who's serious about gaming say otherwise. Each is entitled to their opinion I guess.
Nice video. I were disappointed by this and regret even paying only 6$ for it on sale. I have RTX 3070, but i still think it demand way more than it "taste". It's a 2007 game that looked good for a few years, but i think it's dated nowadays even with those "remastered" features.
Can't guess what is real and what is fake
Maximum strenght ! Minimum performance !
so basically not real ray tracing like Metro Exodus has. Just reflection tracing.
RT in this game isn't worth the FPS dip in my opinion
Rayovertracing
Тащусь по лучам, но в крайзисе что-то хуита
In my honest opinion, i personally prefer rasterization rendering over ray tracing. In games like Metro Exodus, it can look too dark at times. The cost of performance isn't particularly worth it, when you can get better frame rate and great graphics with it turned off.
Yucks. Crytek's implementation of reflections is little over the top.
Is it just me or does this look very much worse compared to the original release?
