Baltimore and New England meet in the playoffs for the first time since the 2009 Wild Card, in a heavyweight fight with an anticlimactic ending.
Patriots and Ravens battled to a 2-2 draw in the playoffs from 09-14. That was a rivalry
It's so funny too. I would not call the Ravens the most talented team in the world (yeah they had nice pieces on defense but a lot of those guys were getting old) but they were the ultimate matchup quirk against NE and Harbaugh went toe-to-toe w Belichick.
Nikhil Krishna and here we are again. . Lol more than likely going to see them in the playoffs.
@@somerandomguy84 you underrate the ravens talent. The Ravens had some great players on offense. Good TEs and WRs, Flacco was good when he was consistent, and the Patriots faced Suggs and Nagata in their prime years. Reed and Lewis were still pro-bowlers, and the Ravens also had a lot of other studs on their defense.
Beatdown 184 that didn’t finish off any rivalry, there hasn’t been one vs the ravens in a while.
@Beatdown 184 That wasn't the playoffs
Unspoken fact...The Patriots went to 8 straight AFC Championship games starting from this game. They won 5 of those Championship games and 3 Super bowls. Elite lvl
People are saying the Chiefs are at that level, but not quite yet.
@@Steve-me9dd you guys were literally the heroes of the NFL
@@Steve-me9dddo you think NY loses to Baltimore if they made it ?
@@SirBeventonWrong...Welker doesn't drop that pass Patriots win!
@@SirBeventonExactly. The 2011 Giants defense crushed the #1, #2 and #3 offenses in the playoffs
What’s crazy is that the ravens and Niners who lost in the AFC Championship NFC championship game those teams are in the Super Bowl A year later
And then 2 teams that lost in the divisional round in 2012 appeared in the superbowl in 2013. Its not as unique but its similar
If only Justin Tucker would have been drafted a year earlier.
I know right
They only brought in Justin tucker because of this… Edit: Tucker was undrafted
@@TheLocalLt Then a year later he hits that kick in Denver and we ultimately win the super bowl
Best kicker since his rookie NFL season. No question about it!
@@TheLocalLt He was actually undrafted and beat out cundiff for the job in training camp
Great game! Also, I just realized each of this season’s runner ups made the Super Bowl the next season. Huh.
"16-16 of field goals in the fourth quarter" "The kick look out look out it's no good "
In 2011 he tied Joe Montana for the most playoff wins. IN 2011. Why is there still a Montana/Brady debate again???
Well apparently Mahomes is better than Brady already cus of the Good start to a long career 😂 baboons
@@rileygemme50🤣🤣
Watching this game and then the 2012 AFC championship is like watching Infinity War and then Endgame.

Does that make Cundiff Starlord?
The image of Vince arms outstretched at the end was iconic. He had just played what was up to that point the best game he'd ever played.

Its crazy to watch this game and think it was only 10 years ago yet the game moves so different in the way they officiate it and show replays without all the new camera angles. It also crazy to see Alberto Riveron actually on the field. He was also a very good field referee.
yep, about 15 more flags would have been thrown for illegal hits if this game was officiated in 2021. the nfl let defenses play back then. sad that it came to this
@@freddypizza3832 yeah man i iss when cte was causing serious health problems down the road.. dam why cant they kill themselves anymore..
Not only was the 2011 season one of my favorites even though my team didn’t make it to the playoffs, but aside from the first wild card game, there wasn’t a dull postseason game. This game proved to be one of the best that year
Sterling Moore, the unsung hero for the Pats. Knocked down that potential game-winning TD pass on Lee Evans and broken up that pass on Dennis Pitta
Exactly 👍
sigh cundiff.... we could have had two Super Bowls back to back. But this motivated us the next year and we drafted the best kicker in a long time after this.
@@mariosnum1fan we beat the 49ers earlier that year and we def would’ve beat the giants lol
@@dubnation6605 you’re right; I deleted my comment
Tucker was not drafted.
Evans drop makes me MORE mad. He wasnt a kicker
If we would've won in 2011 , the Raven's I don't think 🤔 we get back in 2012, bc of all the injuries plus the lucky Denver game. We've wasn't that dominant of a team 2011 was better by far just switched the kickers.
Evans, then Cudiff. Soul-crushing.
Gives me chills tho, when Jim Nantz says “the kick .... LOOK OUT LOOK OUT ITS NO GOOD ITS NO GOOD!!!!” This game gives me chills and 2011 was a truly a magical season, even though we didn’t win, we made it to the super bowl and almost won it for Myra, if only Welker could make ONE more just for Myra
Myra passed away the Giants won the Super Bowl. Ann Mara passed away the Patriots won the Super Bowl on the same day! Crazy! Can't make this stuff up!!!!
@@1990Thunderbolt yeah that is odd haha. It's like they mourned the opposite Super Bowl victory haha
No way Welker catches that ball - it was a bad throw
@@FM-pr1ht If a ball hits both your hands in the NFL - it's typically a catch. So yes, there is "a way."
Losing the super bowl that year hurt. That missed field goal by the Ravens felt like Myra Krafts spirit aiding the Patriots along their season. The Patriots just had so much bad luck in that super bowl and the giants of course being the derp that they were got all the luck. There's way more analysis that goes into SB46 but the Patriots, just like in SB42, had the Giants beat but just couldn't put the final nail in. I won't cry with 6 rings but that year.... doing it for Myra..... just felt right. Damn.
always felt the same way to. really woulda been the perfect ending.
that's the way luck works, though. The belichick-brady pats made the super bowl 9 times in total and won 6 while the other 3 were still really close games. youre going to get unlucky in some of those super bowls. but the pats showed why they were the greatest dynasty ever by winning 6.
Lol typical Patriots fan, only acknowledges what went against them not went for them. The Patriots didn't beat a single team with an above .500 record that year until they beat the better and more complete Ravens team because of a dropped pass and missed field goal. What bad luck in the Super Bowl...you can't be talking about the dumb intentionally grounding that led to a safety on the first drive, or what about the dum throw downfield to a hobbled Gronkowski...Patriots beat themselves and they didn't even deserve to be in that Super Bowl. If we are talking about luck, then clearly the Ravens and niners deserved that Super Bowl more than the giants that beat the miners mostly because of one player, Kyle Williams choking, and the Pats got in because of two guys choking.
As an old Baltimore Colt fan , now Ravens , Belichick was on Colts staff for some years teething. I would think if you asked him what team Patriots feared playing during the brady era, it would be the Baltimore ravens.
@@rmh941 The New England Patriots were the perfect storm . Brady , Belichick & Kraft we’re all responsible for the Twenty Year Dynasty. You can say whatever . AND TB12 IS THE G O A T ! 🐐 🏈🍺🍕
I remember this game like it was yesterday this game crushed my soul

no kidding.... so much talent wasted.
I always say thats the biggest part of his pennance. Nobody remembers how good he was. The Pats gave him an extension before Gronk. And nobody remembers.

Hey big bro you didn't include a FG at 1:18:39 thanks for even taking the time to label this anyways lol. I know it took a lil minute to do it lol.
I remember watching this when I was in 5th grade, and I still remember the exact feeling when Cundiff shanked that kick. Man how time flies
5th grade? Damn. I was a 33-year-old man watching from my apartment....lol
I remember I was in third grade when that happened. It was the first time I saw the Patriots make it to the Super Bowl, before they unfortunately lost. I remember I went on Minecraft following this game so happy that they were going to the super bowl. Man, time does fly
I was in 4th at the time
Me too but I was rooting for the ravens.
Man I was a junior in high school and my friend was a diehard ravens fan, me being a pats fan loved every second of that shanked kick
Julian Edelman man-to-man against Anquan Boldin in the Ravens final drive with a Super Bowl on the line is one of the most insane things I've seen in football to this day, and the worst part is that it didn't work at all
It worked for one team
Brady really didn’t look confident this game. Still got the win with the 31sr ranked defense. I loved this 2011 Patriots team.
Travis Hill as a Ravens I was hurt about this game but I rooted for y’all to win in the Super Bowl I wish Welker caught that pass.
He took you guys way further than should have been possible. To the doorstep of victory, and as a Dallas fan, I really wanted you guys to stick it to the Giants this time, but ah well. With that defense, it should not have been considered an upset like 2007 was tbh. Very few QBs could have taken such an unbalanced team and gone 13-3 with it. In reality that was more like a 10 win team at best on balance, but Brady was just so good that year. The problem was their offense had to play perfect to win, they didn't have much margin for error.
Their defense was not the 31st
@@mariosnum1fan yes it was buddy.
@@mariosnum1fan one of the worst defenses in the belichick era they just played well in the playoffs.
A game with some of the greatest football minds , a true classic indeed
One of the best playoff games ever in my opinion. Outside of Super Bowls of course.
Baltimore coach was really stupid for throwing twice when they had a 2nd and 1 plus a timeout.
edeleman AS A DAM CORNER SMH I MISS THESE PATRIOTS AND WE HAD THE WORST PASS RATED DEFENSE SMH
you guys had a good front 7 with spikes and wilfork
You're right the '11 Pats below avg. defense squeezed every last ounce they had to give in the AFC title game and SB 46 and it should have been enough. In both games against the Giants, the Pats superior offense didn't hold up their end of the deal.
Lol, the Ravens were the only team the Pats beat that season that finished the season with a winning record and they shouldn't of even won that game.
@@rmh941 your right man, and that Pat's defense was so so bad, goes to show how heads and shoulders Tom Brady is above the rest of the league.

Man shoutout to The flacco, Ray Rice, bold in and Torrey Smith Era. Flacco was really the goat. Ice in his veins during the playoffs. Should have been to two SBs if Lee Evans didn't drop the ball.. Lamar has to catch up in terms of Playoff stature.. he has a long way to go
Sterling Moore was all over him.
2:04:11 The Patriots messed up by running on 2nd and 3 to close the game. The two minute warning was going to hit either way. Put the ball in Brady's hands instead of BenJarvus Green-Ellis.
The play before the 2 minute warning you should always run the ball or throw over the middle, since you can’t otherwise do that in the final minutes without using a timeout. It’s the last time you are guaranteed a chance to run the ball
The Patriots so many Superbowl runs and so many championship games
2 great championships games that day
2:04:40 It didn’t result in a win but it was such a clutch play by Reed to get them to punt the ball back for one more chance.
Yeah, not Brady's best game but STILL another 4th quarter GW drive. Flacco sure was incredible at times in the playoffs.
Julian edelman really played DB on Boldin for the most of the last drive, insane

No question the Ravens would've torched the Giants. And I'm such a Patriots apologist, I admit it, if the Pats had done the unthinkable and benched Logan Mankins at half-time they would've won that SB.

Yeah well he a WR covering a prime Anquan Boldin since the secondary was so depleted. Did what he had to do.

George Burnett Facts. This was my favorite rivalry besides the Steelers. I respect the pats y’all brought the best out of us. Many blessings on the pats journey moving forward.
@George Burnett dam y’all beat us lol
@George Burnett yea man that was a great game very entertaining throughout, unfortunately Mcsorley suffered a mild knee sprain and is out for the remainder of the regular season but rgiii is coming back and will be the backup to Lamar. Patriots are a franchise that I used to hate a lot but I respect the hell out of em. Still can’t get over we’re never gonna get those good ol’ Joe Flacco vs Tom Brady matchups anymore😔
I thought the 2014 Divisional Round was the most heartbreaking loss for the Ravens.
As a NY Giants fan, I was so happy that Gronk was less then 100% vs the Giants in the Superbowl. Thanks Bernard Pollard.
27:48 Ray Lewis vs Aaron Hernandez is a “pretty tough matchup” according to Simms 🤔

@Ravens Fan4 yup.... therefore, he was involved in the murders of two people.
@Ravens Fan4 obstruction of justice... guilty. Good thing that happened before Goodell became the commissioner.
@Ravens Fan4 hmmmmm..... pleading to a lesser charge would lead some to believe he was more involved. If Goodell was the sitting commissioner at the time, his career would have been done.

Ravens would’ve made it back to back Super Bowls if Sterling Moore didn’t have enough time to knock the ball out of Lee Evans’s hands for the game winning TD. The Billy Cundiff miss field goal would never happened in the first place
The missed FG was so unexpected I remember being incredibly shocked when it happened
Same, handsome.
Cundiff got glimpse of Flaccos ridiculous mustache and it went wide right
Bottomline: If Gronkowski doesn't get injured this game, the Patriots win Super Bowl 46.
this was the game where i learned how strong a fushigi ball is.(guys remember that toy?) A slammed that ball down when cundiff shanked that kick on my hardwood floor. then later that night the 49ers muffed a punt in overtime allowing the giants to win. I was rooting for both teams. I then called it, 49ers -Ravens Super Bowl next year, and my god it came true.
That miss with Nantz' call of "Look out! Look out!" Reminds me way too much of the fictional NFL Films clip with radio call of Ray Finkle's miss in Ace Ventura.
Watching this is 2023-24 with all of the discourse about hip drop tackles. Pollard’s tackle that injured Gronk in this one is textbook
Just want everyone to know that Edelman also played on defensive snaps during this game.

Even though the ravens lost, they played a hell of a game. This ravens team was much better than their 2012 team. If they converted that 2nd and 1 at the end, they beat the giants in the super bowl
And if Welker doesnt drop a key pass, the Patriots win SB 46...ifs don't count
And? They went back and won the next year it doesn't matter if a team is better year to year it's a matter of can they get the job done look at the giants that year 9-7 and won the Superbowl

TOM BRADY IS THE BEST QUARTERBACK IN THE NFL
Hey Bart Simpson can you upload the 2014 AFC Divisonal game between theses two teams?
I've always wondered why teams don't use young recievers as corners especially in nickel packages covering underneath slot receivers and running backs. It seems fairly high reward and low risk with a safety over the top. Think of all those 5'10" to 6'1" 22 year olds who are often smarter and quicker than they are pure talent and burner speed. You could take some risks jumping routes and getting a pick 6 and with the safety help only risk 8 yards
I remember seeing this at my aunts… good times

I remember watching this game when I was 9.
Flacco is so hard to figure out. He has an on/off switch? He is so uncomfortable moving in the pocket. This really was an epic game, with ups and downs. Watching TB12 making a mistake on his last INT was thrilling. He is lauded as the GOAT, and it is great when you see what they edit out of the highlight films. Did Ray Lewis on the sideline look a little sad? He was a non-factor in a huge game.

Damn, if Brady had just converted that 3rd and 4 at 2:04:37, the Patriots would’ve been able to run out the clock and Flacco would’ve never even had a chance for a game tying/winning drive. (Cundiff/Evans wouldn’t have happened)
Ravens should of called a timeout on that last fg attempt. It was obviously rushed
