I mean the whistle didn’t blow. Most hockey players are taught that a play isn’t over until the whistle blows. If the whistle blew and he kept doing it then yeah he deserved to be dealt with. But in this case it’s Brad Marchand so the cross check seemed fine

Well, there could be an award for that. The Marchand/Wilson Award. It is given to the player who tackles or fights the most deserving players who cheap shots or slew foots others. Other "missing" award is the Tomas Holmström Award - to the best goalie screener. This is a true art, and highly underrated.

The favorite is the one who publicly makes a fool of himself with stupid , sexist or racist comments. Tomas Holmström made a career out of the art of screening goalies. We could have the Joe Pavelski Award to the best tipper. This award goes to two players, the one who has tipped in most goals, and the one who has the highest documented restaurant or cafe tip. I would love to see hockey players try to out-tip each other and give back to the hard working service people. When I'm at it, I'd suggest the Chris Drury Award for the most blocked shots by a forward. I also would like to see the William Karlsson Award for the penalty killer. This is a very important aspect of the game that people forget.

No whistle blown when Marchand whacked at the goalie at the time. Goalie clearly had the puck frozen. Intentional glove with what looks to be the butt end of the stick to Marchand's nose. But, when you have a dirty reputation like Marchand, he should have expected some kind of retaliation.

I would gather it was the visor hitting his nose that caused the blood -- the butt end never was exposed or came close. Seeing what has been let go this season, that was a terrible call. We saw an entire game of a collective team attacking Letang before the AllStar break -- including an actual butt end attempt and nothing called. Are the refs finally waking up for a moment and making a few calls before hibernating for the playoffs?

Other "missing" award is the Tomas Holmström Award - to the best goalie screener. This is a true art, and highly underrated.

I would love to see hockey players try to out-tip each other and give back to the hard working service people. When I'm at it, I'd suggest the Chris Drury Award for the most blocked shots by a forward. I also would like to see the William Karlsson Award for the penalty killer. This is a very important aspect of the game that people forget.

This is an odd one, cause it's hard to tell if contact was made by the glove or the stick. Two hands doesn't automatically mean crosscheck, but they reviewed it pretty damn quick.
It looked to me like he caught him with the butt end of the stick when he decked Marchand. I guess they called it a cross-check because he was swinging the stick and not actually driving the butt end of the stick into his face? Either way, it was a glorious thing to watch. Jack Edwards probably had to take a day off to mourn.

I would gather it was the visor hitting his nose that caused the blood -- the butt end never was exposed or came close. Seeing what has been let go this season, that was a terrible call. We saw an entire game of a collective team attacking Letang before the AllStar break -- including an actual butt end attempt and nothing called. Are the refs finally waking up for a moment and making a few calls before hibernating for the playoffs?
