  • As a massive basketball fan and recent hockey fan, I love how I used to think that the Malice at the Palace, the 2004 Pacers v. Pistons brawl, was absolutely insane and unprecedented in sports. Homeboy in the #1 clip was beating a fan with his own dress shoe.

    • @@snoopyyy_23 just in case he doesn't get back to answer, I believe that in high school, they don't allow you to fight. in the WHL, younger players under 17 aren't allowed to get into fights, even against players the same age.

  • That Flyers/Canadiens one was epic. I remember it like it was yesterday. All those fights and not one penalty because it was before the game. It's said that several members of the Flyers staff had Ron Hextall locked in the trainers room because he wanted to come out and fight.

    • I watched that live on TV, god the 80s were the golden age of hockey. Dave Brown was in the thick of every fight. In one playoff series in 85 or 86 he was fighting 2 Rangers at the same time, one with each fist.

    • they start out of more so, respect for their teammates, to get involved, but they kinda have to hold back since they have more padding, so its only fair that if they wanna fight someone, equally itd be the other goalie

  • During one of the NFL games a week or two ago, they were interviewing a lineman and he complimented the toughness of one of his fellow players by saying hes a football player with the toughness of a hockey player. I thought that was a huge compliment towards the whole sport.

  • 97' Fight Night at the Joe, was one of the biggest hockey events in the last half century. It wasn't random mobs of pairings. Every nuance of the big fight was choreographed by the Red Wings to get payback for Draper.

  • I just started watching hockey...39 years old. I've seen one fight and it was awesome. It's amazing how well these guys can skate and handle the puck. Like I said I'm new to hockey but is pretty exciting.

    • Flyers in the 70s were the most brutal. When the Soviets toured the NHL in the 70s, they beat every team but their last game was in the Spectrum in Philly, where the Flyers pummeled them so badly they threatened to quit in the middle of the game, NHL ref told them to get back out or forfeit. They finally came out and took their loss like grownups.

    • Usually the referee won't get involved in the breaking up of fights. The linesmen go in to break up the fight while the referee stays back to spectate and make the right calls during the fight.

  • I used to absolutely love watching the Avalanche and Red Wings go at it back in the day. Any time they played you could pretty much guarantee a buncha brawls. I remember watching that Roy vs Osgood fight live. There were fights all over the ice and Roy wanted to get in on it. Even my sweet little old grandma was cheering them on. Classic!

    • Totally agree with this. Right before the USSR broke up the NHL was competing with the European and Soviet leagues and getting more athletic, while still having the toughness of the 70s. Best hockey ever.
