PRUSA i3 MK3S+ 3D Printer Complete Assembly Guide, Every Detail Covered

The Prusa i3 MK3S+ is the gold standard of hobbyist 3D printers. I bought this for mainly one reason. I have more than 10 3D printers, and most of them print pretty similarly in terms of print quality. If I printed the same 3D model with the same filament using each of these printers behind me, I probably couldn't tell them apart.
I paid $750 and $50 shipping for this Prusa. Today, I will assemble this $800 printer and see if it can print out of the box better than my other printers. I made this 35-minute assembly video to show every detail of the assembly process. Hopefully, you can find this helpful!
After the assembly is done, the result is okay, and the printer works well. I will spend the next week testing it out and let you know how I feel about this printer. I will also do more test prints and do some research on the parts of this printer. I will then make a conclusion to let you know if this printer is worth the price.

  • As someone who has written instructions and procedures for others to follow when doing technical work for many years, I want to say that your video contains clear and concise instructions in logical steps that anyone should be able to follow and have success in their build of the PRUSA i3 Mk3S+. Using correct labeling and nomenclature for parts. Calling out the specific screws and other hardware as it is needed, and providing clarifying comments in your voiceover is excellent. PRUSA should hire you to make assembly and instructional videos. Good luck in your career. I don't know what you plan to focus on but I have no doubt you will excel.

    • I think Prusa has done a pretty good job too. I do believe the Prusa instructions are read by the letter in some of this video.

    • Indeed the standard of these video's should be the standard ALL KZhead tutorial video's should met before even published. A whole industry of stereotype nitwits printing dolls and vases, and parroting others is what google mostly poops out on search of 3d printed searches ... This is Zen and the art of 3dprinting...

    • Disagree, way too many jump cuts. Yeah calling out the names of the parts help, but there are some parts I continuously had to rewind on. Very frustrating. I appreciate the video and it is more helpful than the instructions in certain parts, but it's not perfect.

    • I sent a rep a link to this video and told them to contact her. They need to send her an mk4 kit and let her make the video and release some footage before the mk4 is actually released. Us nerds would love that lil teaser! I hope they have a cool customer service team like other companies I've grown to love.

  • Great video. Between this, the printed manual and the online manual on the Prusa site, I feel really good about putting the printer together. You make inserting the square nuts look easy, where I had a lot of trouble with them. I saw another video where the installer used the flat part of a flat head screwdriver to push the square nuts in. I tired this and it made the process a whole lot easier. You just have to seat the square nut first. I'm also a big fan of the Prusa pull technique to get the hex nuts into their spots.

  • Hi Aurora. I'm at 13:30 of your tutorial, where you show that we should put one bearing from one side and another from the other side, but the official included manual says that we should not push it from the other side, because there is a rim on one of the sides of the holes, which you can feel if you put your finger in. Just wanted to note this, because people may possibly break it, I guess. Other than that, smooth guide so far, thank you for your work.

  • Thank you for the perfect video! I just want to add one small detail - before you put the bearings on the X-axis, rotate all the bearings so that the two adjacent rows of balls are at a 45 degree angle from the vertical plane. The weight of the extruder will be better distributed and the polished rods will not wear out so much. Details are described in the original printer assembly instructions.

  • "Aurora!! I had to come back and wish you a BIG THANK YOU! I serviced my MK3S+ extruder idler today, and when i tried to assemble back the idler, the bearings were no where to be found. I REMEMBERED seeing TWO bearings, but only found ONE. Suspecting something amiss, i came back to this video of yours and BABBBAAAAMMM !! TRUE ENOUGH, there are TWO bearings (in 22.33 sec of your video) . The 2nd bearing flew into the VERY BOTTOM of my trashcan!! Can you believe my GOOD luck?? My GOOD luck of having your channel documenting this in detail and my luck of finding it in a trashcan filled with alcohol swabs, discarded failed prints and filament strands. Consequently, Aurora, i HAVE to write you this note to say A BIGGGGG THANK YOU. You are a life saver. Hey, Let's do a cross-over video one day, Aurora." • I just bought this printer assembled (waiting impatiently for the 3 week leadtime before it being shipped). I put together my first printer, but now that I have more money than time I opted for the assembled printer. I don't want to miss the knowledge of the printer that the assembly process gives you though, so I have been looking for a good assembly video to learn more about how it is all assembled. This is a GREAT video for that, really well put together. It shows all the things you would want to see when building it, but speeds over all the prep work that you don't need to see. The video is also well scripted which avoids the huge amount of stammering and repeating that many printer assembly videos have. Thanks!

  • Wow, that is quite a build video. One note to users building this printer, make sure the frame is not twisted, after attaching the aluminum extrusions to the gantry plate. It’s probably just the table you worked at, but it could look like there was a little rocking in the frame. I assembled the frame on glass table, and used the rocking test (likely press down on each corner in turn) to make sure the frame is not twisted. I had a to do a few adjustments before my frame was straight. For me, the biggest reason to have the Prusa is not for build quality. I can achieve similar quality from other printers. But my Prusa is still my go-to printer, simply because of reliability and repeatability of the printer.

From the tutorial you provided, it looks like you had a much easier time seating the hex and square nuts than I did. Great tutorial video!! • Thank you so much for the time and effort for this fantastic video, I had this running while also reading online Prusa Instruction manual ( read the comments BEFORE you do each step, gives you plenty of hints and tips). My one bit of advice is, there are times when you should check the alignment of the nuts, as if they are not in enough it can cause a huge headache later on, something I found when doing the X carriage assembly and I couldn't get the screw to bite. Just poking a allen key ( hex key) in and giving it a wiggle can save you hours of dismantling.
