Wood Turning - Half a Log to Half a Bowl?
I have a lot of fun experimenting woodturning different types of bowls. This one ended up looking like a Pringle. I think the next bowl I make on the lathe I'll try to do a little shallower, but I'm happy how thin I was able to get the wings on this one.

Are you coating/sealing the surfaces with linseed, mineral oil, or something else?
I just discovered these woodturning videos and now I am wasting my life watching them; they are mesmerising!
It’s addictive!
That turned out great well done I like the way you kept the live edge . Thank you for sharing it with us!
I really like these winged bowls. I also like the live edge look too. I suck at making them but I enjoy other peoples excellent outcomes.
Skill and artistry amazing and beautiful. Thanks for not spoiling it with music or talking.

Man of few words😐 Very nice bowl. I was holding my breath towards the end watching you turn it paper-thin...👍
What a cool hat! Nice job! LIKED!
My favorite part is the finished project. My second favorite part is watching all those long wood curls fall away.
Perfect for chips and dip!!
Like the process of turning much.
Turn out really beauty.
Nice Piece
Thanks!
Really good !!
Thanks!
😉💪
Could be turned up the other way and a spike added to create a WW 1 German Army helmet. Nice project. Thanks for sharing.
Looks very nice😉👌
Fantastic man! Couldn't imagine the transformation from the raw material to the finished product. Impressive! Well done 👍👏
You know how to use a bowl gouge! I watched intently the way you handled the tool. I learned something from your video. Thanks!
Thanks! I still make mistakes a lot but practice helps
Gotta keep your tool handle against your body and keep your hand on the tool rest for control. Take liter cuts starting off it will knock down on the bouncing.
❤ thank you sir very nice and educational for beginners like me
THAT BOWL CAME OUT AWESOM .VERY VERY NICE FROM DOUG

I love it when a log becomes balanced on the lathe. :)
I just bought my first lathe. This video inspired me to get good fast so I can make creative projects like this.

I don't think I've ever seen a bowl gouge that sharp! May I ask the brand of that tool?
Perfeito ,uma bela peça e um ótimo trabalho parabéns gostei um forte abraço aqui do Brasil
Ha! Tried the exact same Thing a few days ago. Mine Looks like crap!! But it was the first attempt...
Very nice👍👍
Awesome 😎 video the thickness look so perfect 👌🏼
Thanks, I actually spent a lot more time than I showed getting it thin haha
Cook Woodworks I know the game 🤟🏻
Beautiful bowl. Thanks for Sharing
Amazing
Very good job, congratulations! Would you please tell me approximately how large and how long was the log? I would like to try doing the same with my lathe. Thanks a lot and many compliments!
Beautiful bowl 🤗
Good work sir super video
What kind of wood? How long and what conditions used to dry it? How to know when it is dry enough? Thks and nice work!
Perfection
Love your work!
Your half log sure turned into a beautiful half bowl. I like the thin walls and the finish is a nice blend to bring out the grain.
Thanks!
Linda peça, gostaria de saber qual a madeira
Wow…that’s an incredibly beautiful bowl. I just have one question, how did you attract the blank to the chuck? I am starting out and would like to attach one the same way. Thank you.
That screw in the chuck is called a worm screw. Most chucks come with them. Simply drill a hole as screw the wood on.
Simply perfect!!
Love the nice thin walls. Too many chunky bowls out there!
Thanks!
bravo 👏👏
Thank you
Mighty thin turning, Bud! That’s the sign of a light touch while turning. Great job!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks! I had a few before this with not so light a touch haha
Nice hat!
Beautiful piece. What exactly are you useing to drill the hole into the bowl side. Is it just a drill bit? Ive never seen an attachment like that seema very useful. I try my drill press with little success!
Get a drill chuck for your lathe and a forstner bit
Would you please share a link to the chuck you're using. Nice work by the way
Boy that lathe really vibrates.
Good work! It's like a potato chip!
Great looking bowl. What kind of wood is this? How long did the wood have to dry before turning? What was the finish, was it a wax???
Do u use a dust extractor? I just worry if I buy a lathe as I don't have one . Will dust wreak the motor. Great work BTW
I really like this one! Nice job! 💜
Outstanding video.. especially showing with no fast forward, really helps a lot.
Beautiful bowl.....👍
Thank you!
