  • So when can our society admit that idolized child stars have desperate, broken and dysfunctional adult lives?

    @christa526@christa5263 жыл бұрын
    • They have dysfunctional childhood that leads into their adult hood. She and many others have suffered at the hands of predatory adults. Over worked, monitored or sexually abused. Its happened to Alison Stoner, Drew Barrymore, Soleil Moon Frye, the Jackson's, River Phoenix , Xtina and Britney Spears etc. They are all so quick to use children as cash cows but not care about what happens when the cameras aren't rolling or they're not performing.

I came across a documentary about the last 24 hours of Amy’s life I was freaked out when I realized the date of Amy’s passing was July 23, 2011. It then hit me the date of Demi’s 2018 OD was July 24. I’m so happy Demi came through it . I hopes she coninues her path to happiness

    • This is true for a lot of addicts, people with eating disorders, and other mental illnesses-- espeically those who have dealt with severe symptoms of their disease(s) for decades, have had many periods of relapses and recovery, and have been in and out of treatment numerous times.

      @hotsh17@hotsh172 жыл бұрын
    • Its hard to replace something so big that your life used to revolve around and was your main priority, the #1 thing you cared about... and then try to rediscover yourself as an adult. Not to mention, in Demi's case, the truth of the matter is that her music/entertainment career isn't nearly successful compared to her peers' (Taylor, Miley, Selena, etc). So her addiction, eating disorder, and mental health struggles are what seems to be most interesting to people and draw the most attention when it comes to her. It's unfortunate but its the reality of the situation. When you say the name "Demi Lovato", the average person probably can't name more than 1 song of hers (if they can even name one at all), but they most likely can tell you shes a drug addict. At this point this is largely out of her control and overcoming it would be a challenge for her, being that she's about to be 30 and has already been in the entertainment industry now for most of her life. It would be hard to reinvent and reignite her career without all this stuff overshadowing it. She can exist and have an identity outside of addiction but can her career exist without it?

    • It's a reality. Once you're addicted, it's a battle from there your whole life. It's all you know and all you'll be known for..My boyfriend is an addict. He tells everyone how he's sober and proud and eventually starts using again...Addiction will take up you whole life, you go without your crutch and you suffer symptoms. It's not easy getting clean, it's also expensive.

  • Her best friend said at 12:45, "I think if your life is set up to be focused on how you're not well, then you're not gonna feel well." I can speak from experience, this is absolutely true. I was struggling in the last year from things that have been happening in my personal life, and at a certain point, it was like everyone around me was only focused on "well you're struggling and having a hard time and you've been through so much. Its been so difficult for you." And sometimes you just need to have people stop talking about your problems and your struggles, and simply encourage you to get better and to be better and to live free of self-judgement. People will feel small if you tell them they've been living it so hard. They will rise and stand tall if you tell them that they are ready for new things.

    @marrrst@marrrst3 жыл бұрын
    • I actually was at the Barclay's Center concert when that happened. Some people are super proud of their sobriety, but looking back, it was clear that she hasn't gotten through all of her issues that made her miserable. And maybe she didn't even know herself that at the moment, maybe she thought sobriety is something that worked for her back then. I really think she learned through quarantine to work on herself cause it forced her to slow down (like what she said in the episodes). In a way, who knows what might have happened again if we weren't in a pandemic and she went straight to touring and working again.

They put too much pressure on her to be perfect and this role model. As her sister said, she never signed up for that. She only signed up to get better and spread awareness to eradicate the stigma. Not for her company to make profit off of her and her trauma.

A lot of people don't have an understanding of addiction and trauma. It's an achievement that she managed to make it to six years of sobriety but it was too much control from her team that made her want to relapse other than things that would trigger her such as the body type of the model that the styling team would make for her outfits. By her last documentary she had clearly shown that she had relapsed into her ED. Relapsing is okay and it doesn't mean that she's a failure. She always wanted to show her imperfections and making money from her issues wasn't her brand, it was her honesty and upfrontness about it. She's explained so much and has been so brave to showcase her humanity and even tell us that she was raped. TWICE. She took responsibility for her actions, called out her fans for hating on and falsely accusing her friend. That's doesn't exactly fit the definition of evil to the core as the haters say.

They are hunted like an animal by vultures waiting to see them fall and capture it , sell it, and do it again and again when it chips away at those they are hunting souls. Those VULTURES can do better they NEED to do better. Brittany same thing its a miracle she came back out of the dark also.

We moved away from him and I stopped talking to him in 2010. He died in 2016 by his addiction. He was found in his room. I have been fighting to stay away from his path, but at 16 I was binge drinking. At 17 I had a horrible adderall addiction. I lost 78lbs in 3 months. At 18 I went back to my childhood home and started focusing on my mental health. Stay strong hun 💖 you’re not alone.

  • People don’t realize how much courage it takes to keep fighting after a lifetime of struggle. No amount of money or fame changes the effects of mental illness and trauma. The fact that she has to fight through all of this in front of the whole world is so scary and just proves how strong she is. After 6 years of sobriety, she relapsed and that must’ve been so hard for her to accept. But the fact that she lived to tell her story proves just how much of a fighter she is and that she belongs in this world. I would not be alive without Demi. She has a kind heart and tells the truth regardless of how harsh it is to hear. The whole world was making fun of her for the past 3-4 years and yet she still has the passion to create with the purpose of inspiring others to be open about their struggles. Most people would crumble under such scrutiny and pressure, but Demi truly cares about what she believes and that’s why she’s been able to make it through.
