    • Honestly I think it depends on the contract she signed with her label. However, once that contract is up, if she’s truly passionate about making music, she could drop her label and release music as an independent artist so she’s not contractually obligated to do promotion, music videos, or go on tour. She’s built a decent fan base so she could still be incredibly successful as an independent artist as opposed to starting at square one. But as long as she continues to sign those contracts it will continue to be her fault for having to live this lifestyle when she hates it so much.

Every celebrity doc does this, but it’s crazy they would assume somehow Selena’s doc is an accurate portrayal. Most celeb docs are for fans to feel closer to them and to get new ppl interested in the celeb. This wasn’t meant to be an honest portray but a “Selena is a person too guys😢 not just the 1%” but like… we knew that… i just don’t think she’s a good one 😅

  • This documentary actually made me dislike Selena. (She was my fave Disney star when I was a kid) You can tell she has a lot of “Yes” people around her. The way she lashes out on Raquelle and turns an innocent question into a personal attack is one example. As sensitive as I am I didn’t see any sly tones from Raquelle imho. & When she’s in Africa, and the school girls spoke about their educational improvements, Selena goes and asks them “Do you believe in Love?” 😅 My goodness. Also there was no mention of her friend that gave her a kidney transplant? 🧐 I also just couldn’t empathize with her crying… a lot of the things she cried about were kind of bratty and petty. Her balking out crying about Justin and being linked to him was a bit silly to me. I’m 4 years younger than her and myself + including all my guy friends that had a crush on her knew her from Disney.. Not Justin

    @nicolepik5372@nicolepik5372 Жыл бұрын
    • What’s sad is you deciding if someone’s emotions are valid or not. Her crying over these things is not “silly” they are real to her. I can only imagine you were told growing up that what you were crying about was “silly” and that’s why you are so above and beyond these kinds of thoughts and feelings. As for your bipolar “sibling” who even says sibling? If you’re close you normally call them brother or sister.. you must not be close to them and for good reason.. emotions are normal and for her to be able to cry if she needs to is so much better than suppressing her emotions and then blowing up one day worse than she has. I can also only imagine your bipolar “sibling” is not very fond of you.

It can sound insensitive - but as much as I liked Selena, her problems just seemed much ‘first world’ - I’m pretty much tired of these celebrities staying in the limelight to support their lifestyle then complaining about it. Idk if it’s their contract or that being famous from an early age pressures you to stay relevant, or the money… so you just can’t go get a normal job? Whatever it is, fame is just f’d up and makes fools out of these humans at the end of the day. They’re never happy at the end of the day it seems like

And also depending on the people who raised you and their behaviors determines a lot on how your brain develops as well as what you put in your body. Like alcohol is terrible. It’s not so cut and dry as … well if you want ti be this then BE THIS.. it doesn’t work quite that way.. I thought her “friends” kind of sucked honestly. They’re encouraging her to stay for her fans and work even when she was feeling like she didn’t want to do it anymore. It’s just strange. Sometimes we are around the wrong people. • People who have bi polar disorder are easily irritated they also react harshly when their emotions are on overload. Alot of times they react and say things with no control over it and it takes a minute for our brain to catch up. We end up feeling extremely guilty for what ever we did or said. Depression is something that comes along with being bi polar you don't want to get out of bed or see or talk to people. The guilt and shame from not being able to control the way you react is so bone deep exhausting it truly feels like the world is against you including your body and mind. I wrote all of this because of the scene with her and her friend I thought I could give some context to what it's like. I thank God every day for my husband putting up with me for 16years I know it can't be easy no matter how many times I admit I was wrong and apologize. • In 2019, I researched Bieber and Gomez in a type of a psychological study with regard to pop culture, not as a "fan" that really knew the work of either. The dynamic of Bieber and Gomez being in a long off and on again relationship which saw him almost immediately propose to and wed Hailey after a break up with Gomez fascinated me. I wanted to dig into that. I read through thousands of comments over the course of years of social media post in addition to Selena's release of "Lose You To Love Me" where all blamed Bieber for their relationship struggles ("cheater, manipulator, abuser"). Even Bieber blamed himself. But my research revealed different findings. I saw Bieber as the manipulated. Selena first dismissing his publically revealed crush as that of a "kid brother" very much talking about him (even mockingly so) as if an underling child rather than a peer. I'm sure this impacted his desire to be viewed as a man and caused him to be easily seduced by other women who treated him as such. But then he became the untrustworthy cheater paying a penance for hurting the woman he loved. Again, his self-esteem crashes. So, he cheats more wanting to see himself through the eyes of other women while Selena reminds him constantly of how he hurts her. She wants him, but he can't change what's been done. So, she tries to control him as we do when we lose trust. And he gets the sense that he can't win. His self-esteem crashes more. He chases women more. Her self-esteem crashes more. She seeks more control of him. Back and forth it goes. Selena: "You make me feel bad. You make me feel crazy." Justin leaves because he makes her feel bad and crazy. He cheats with the woman that says: "You make me feel good." Selena: "I'm so good to you and you're so bad to me. You make me feel bad. You make me feel crazy." Round and round it goes. He quickly wed Hailey and settled down, because he wanted to break the cycle of pain for both himself and Gomez and to be the good guy with Hailey the way he never could be with Gomez (who he holds himself accountable for breaking). It seems odd, but he married Hailey because he wants to be a good guy. Marriage to the woman he hadn't hurt was almost an act of redemption for him in his eyes. As if he could finally become what Selena said he should've been all along. Notice his Selena tattoo is not just of Selena...but Selena as an angel with angel's wings. She's the Saint. He's the sinner. He wanted redemption. I truly sense the guy was gaslit and manipulated a lot by Gomez. And we see how Selena uses people just in this video about the documentary. She uses poor people to make herself feel better about herself as in: "Oh let me go connect with the little guy so I can get grounded." It's not born from true caring about anyone but herself and her needs. And anyone who needs to hate another to love oneself doesn't love oneself or anyone else.

    • I have three degrees in psychology and behavioral sciences, can confirm this all seems to be the most likely case. She actually displays much more narcissistic behaviors than people talk about, especially with her her cycle of discarding friends once someone more famous or someone more willing to worship her comes along. ie being Demi’s best friend when she was relevant with camp rock, discarding her for Bieber behind closed door supposedly being in a relationship with him despite barely acting like she was his friend publicly or anything more than a sister-like figure, when he stopped praising her behind closed doors due to her cycle of devaluing (gaslighting and putting him down) so he moves on and that is EVERY narcissists WORST fear... they don’t want their victims to be emotionally over them, they want to always be on their mind and in control of their life even if it’s just by consuming their thoughts so she would act “mature” and above it all REACTING to horrible things asking others to be kind to him and Hailey but actually did very little if anything to pre-emotive or stop people from barraging them, from bringing up his exes, for talking about Justin and Selena, she even stocked flames by continually making more music that would bring everyone to thing her songs were about Justin, again getting control over his life, how people interact with him and interview him. Narcissist might not really want you at the end of the day but they DO want to feel better than you and like you’re forever indebted to them. This is where her avoidant attachment style comes in- she has gone on about Justin Bieber being this huge impact on her life for LONGER than they were even “together”. It’s ridiculous at this point. This is common for narcissists and those with low empathy or avoidant attachment styles, it’s called “the phantom ex”. I’m not kidding that’s a real psychological term because they don’t truly want to be with their ex, and if they were to get back together they would just end things or discard them again, maybe even make it appear like they are pushing them away for the victims own good, either way they ultimately don’t end up with them because they don’t want to... if they wanted to be with you they would be with you... in a long and real commitment, not say they want to and continually leave you... it’s sad really because they will forvevet fantasize about that “perfect” ex that was the one who got away, yet if they actually had them they wouldn’t want them, they would instead long for some other person they used to date or want and think THEY were the one that got away “why am I with THIS GUY who hurts me so much (devaluing them) when I could have been with so-and-so if they just stayed with me... etc. Etc. Allowing people to talk for so many YEARS about her ex and continue to tie them to each other rather than creating a new narrative about her life and love life, grow into a new person rather than the damsel and victim that had a lover who made her “lose herself in order to be loved by them” is a victim narrative to juicy for a narcissist to pass up. Now with Taylor as her friend she will continue to be her friend as long as Taylor is relevant and at the top of the food chain, if someone else comes along with more influence that would be her next target judging by her pattern but who knows who that could be... time will tell

    • @@Cloudyconfusion Makes sense that Charlie Puth's "Attention" was about her. Just as with Bieber, she wants the attention. My mom is a grandiose narcissist. I lived this. My mom didn't want my dad, but even 14 years after their divorce she'd keep me up on school nights till 1:00 am asking "How could he do me that way?" She couldn't understand why he didn't want her. Why he didn't keep chasing her. She forgot about holding the loaded gun to his head and all the times she screamed at him to "F" off. Selena's behaviors reminds me a lot of my mom. How dare Bieber be happy without her. How dare he move on, and her fanatics... 4-years later... still hasn't let him. They harrass the guy, and I think he does a good enough job of that on his own as he's a bit of a tortured soul thinking he hurt someone he loved and himself a monster. He doesn't know he's the victim. He was gaslit. He was manipulated. He was controlled and likely never loved in the first place, but rather the product of an ego trip in need of using him to be fed.

  • I wish they had taken a different route with the documentary. If the intention was to raise awareness about mental health it would have been way better if she actually talked about her triggers and if they got a mental health professional to come explain and talk to the audience about why Selena was having these issues, what are the symptoms and how one may start trying to treat them. Instead all we got was an hour and a half of Selena crying about her job. I get it. I sympathize but who is that helping really? I'm sorry but I just don't feel bad for her. Most people in the world have to go through mental health struggles and still deal with doing parts of their jobs that they don't like. And unlike the rest of the world she's actually getting paid millions for it. I don't think Selena had bad intentions with the documentary but this just goes to show how far removed celebrities are from the reality that most other people experience on a daily basis. Her struggles aren't that different from what many of us face but unlike her none of us have the luxury of complaining about it all day and having a team full of people cater to our mood.

Justin had more to prove and she does. Justin had to prove that he’s not the person that the media and Selena have made him out to be. Even AFTER she goes to Africa to be humbled she isn’t. Promotion is part of her JOB. Millions of starving homeless people would kill to trade positions with her. • As a person with bipolar, I can attest that when its untreated, bipolar episodes can and will absolutely wreck your life like a tornado in just a week or maybe even less. Also just even the day to day amplified mood swings between episodes can be very draining. I think that the statistic is that 40% to 50% of those with bipolar attempt suicide at least once in their life. You got the multiple month extreme suicidal depressive episodes and then you got mania which commonly presents nearly identically to a schizophrenic episode except a person in manic psychosis has a remarkably high level of energy and motivation and will eventually be complete in hysteria if left untreated. Basically you embarrass the shit out of yourself and then go straight down into a severe depressive episode once you come back and realize how "crazy" you were acting in mania. Luckily, it gets easier and better after some time of medications, lifestyle changes, therapy, and support, but doesn't ever go away fully. I bet living with lupus on top of that is an absolute nightmare. Selena is a textbook case of bipolar 2 and I don't think she's doing anything with malicious intent. Managing lupus and bipolar together all in the public eye sounds so unfathomably difficult and I think she for sure deserves some credit

Also to me, it is very telling of her personality and behaviour when: 1. Francia (who literally donated her kidney to Selena) is not friends with her anymore, 2. Taylor (who she claims is her best friend in the industry) is MIA throughout the whole documentary, 3. The fact that a lot of people that were once associated with Selena are not friends with her but are friends with each other. Like Demi for example. She's not friends with Selena but she's friends with Hailey and Justin. Another example, Charlie Puth, the Jenners, Bella Hadid and The Weeknd. They were all associated/friends with Selena at one point. Now they aren't friends with her but they are all friends with each other and with Hailey and Justin. And 4. The fact that she does nothing to speak up for the hate that Raquelle is receiving is crazy to me. I mean I get that she won't say anything in support of Hailey for the hate that she gets but the fact that she doesn't defend Raquelle or her other friends is just very sus to me. And the fact that they left in that footage of their fight in the documentary. I feel like her team is aware that those clips will be taken out of context and Raquelle will receive even more hate. • I have the same response to Selena's documentary as I did with all of Demi's. 1) There is nothing authentic to be gained after years of victimization, passed the era in which it was valid. 2) There is no specificity. It rings like a plethora of platitudes strung together and a timeline of incoherence to the audience. 3) The lack of personal responsibility or shame of bad choices (drug/alcohol addiction) while lacking self-awareness of their privileged situation. Superficial.

To understand Selena, you have to understand how Bipolar disorder affects your moods. Emotional dysregulation. Mental illness can be hereditary or linked to an underlying disease. People who have Lupus do have bouts of depression & anxiety. Selena is a product or a victim of her body. Stress worsens any condition. She is a victim of her body & her inability to see things in a positive manner or having learned poor coping skills.

  • I can understand why Selena feels broken at times because she is constantly under public scrutiny & she knows she is being gossiped about. That takes a toll on her mental health. Then again, there are times I think she instigates social media speculation because she can be attention-seeking & a drama queen. I think a lot of celebrities have narcissistic qualities because they feel entitled when they are constantly surround by a team of "Yes" people and her team has the job to make her feel better when she is down & they have to agree with her when she is upset. Her team is basically there to please her & make sure she gets on camera or on stage. We may see it as spoiled & entitled diva behavior...and I can understand it to a certain extent because she grew up in front of the public lens since she was a kid, and she needs to feel safe & protected. Also I see as someone who is still trying to figure out who she is aside from her public persona.

  • Selena is all grown up at 31, I mean she has been working since she was 7 years old. Yet, at 31, she is still going strong & even though she has a lot to do, now she does it all & is a hard worker. I think this year 2023, was the year for Selena & the way it became her year was just a little bizarre. It started 6 months ago when Hailey, Kendall & Justine body-shamed Selena. There was a photo of Selena that was altered to make her look heavier in a bathing suit but it was altered & it was floating around the internet & right about then, Hailey put out a video of them lip-syncing to a song saying, "I'm not saying she deserved it but god's timing is always right." Then Hailey immediately took it down & said it was just a girls' night out but Hailey's response was really suspicious. Why take a video down if it was just a girls' night out. Then Kylie comes in with the eyebrow shade about Selena. Even Kim Kardashian got in the act talking about she was on team Hailey. All these women are grown women who want to take down a real celebrity like Selena. Now, if Selena's friends Raquel Stevens & Ashley are friends with Hailey Bieber, that is really suspicious bc that means that they are not loyal to Selena bc you just don't cross that line of friendship by mingling with your best friend's enemy. I think Selena may know about her friends not being loyal but she probably has them on her payroll so it doesn't really matter to her. Another thing, she takes her little sister to a lot of events with her.

  • Selena is so strange to me. One minute in Interviews she brags about Disney and Wizards being some of the best times of her life. She loved it, they had a great cast, no drama, all got along, etc. next minute she’s crying in the documentary saying she wants nothing to do with Disney and doesn’t want to be seen as a “Disney kid.” But in previous interviews loved Disney, and realized it opened up a lot of doors for her. She does seem ungrateful and seems to make mountains out of molehills. I understand feeling insecure, not good enough, depressed, etc but you can’t let your feelings control your life because they absolutely will. She needs to get those feelings under control. I’m not saying they aren’t valid- but wow don’t let them ruin your tour and life. It’s not worth it. Honestly this doc did her a huge disservice in my opinion…. And like you said in the video all the important things we actually want to know like her mom drama, the kidney and lupus behind the scenes, drug/alcohol problem was not shown. Her whining about doing promo was so weird too. She was so proud of this song and apparently wrote it in “45 minutes” but also hates doing promo and bringing attention to it…. Definitely bipolar. I am not a fan of her music or her acting But I do admire the fact that inspite of everything she keeps going and she finds the time and energy to care PS - I think her bi-polar disorder is misdiagnosed, especially it's severity, a severely impacted person can't carry themselves like this
