They’ll be more patient with you and give ya a better understanding of your own brain. Lady Gaga’s foundation does a lot about mental health and her speeches help me. • You can’t have a side of on and off again bipolar. Bipolar is a very serious mental disorder people often mistaken. Just because you have “mood swings” of happy and extreme depression DOES NOT make u bipolar. Bipolar is NOT only happy and sad. Bipolar is having extreme manias that last for weeks and months. Your often in a state of psychosis. You can hear voices, see things and be out of touch of reality. You can also have something called rapid cycling which is ur mood changing every 30 minutes to an hour every single day from one extreme to the next. Bipolar type 1 is what i described. Bipolar type 2 is less intense but still has manias. Bipolar is often times mixed up with schizophrenia so please don’t say u have “on and off again” bipolar there’s NO SUCH THING. I don’t care what doctor said that to you they clearly know nothing about the mental disorder. People with bipolar do not just have it on and off there’s no such thing. Having depression doesn’t mean your in a suicidal state 24 you can laugh. You might have situational or seasonal depression and your mistaking if for bipolar. People with bipolar disorder have it so rough they often times can’t even have a job and are on disability for life. There’s different types of bipolar but each one have something in common it’s NEVER “on and off” it’s there for LIFE. That’s like saying you have schizophrenia on and off that makes no sense. So once again please do your research

I actually didn't know that I was on the bipolar spectrum for a long time. I just thought I had depression and anxiety and that's it but I had other symptoms too like difficulty concentrating and extreme feelings of guilt. Thankfully, I know that I am bipolar so when I have a child, I will recognize the symptoms early. I was put on antidepressants for a long time and unfortunately, BD is treated differently than unipolar depression. I really wish I was put on the right meds from the start. Thanks for sharing and God bless you. Don't ever be ashamed of being bipolar. People with bipolar tend to be very intelligent and creative :)

  • Dear Selena, we have the same birthday! 22nd of July! I went thought panic attacks and all kinds of infections in my twenties. And while I was looking for natural solutions I became a Reiki master, Karma healer and Sekhem healer. Those modalities completely changed my life and quit my engineering career to be able to help people with mental health issues and my biggest happiness to see others to heal from mental illness and also teaching some of the modalities to people who wants to help more. I wish people will be more open minded and receptive to the truth that we are spiritual beings having a human experience and there much more what effecting our health what we can actually capture in our physical reality. I help people to release traumas from past lives and ancestral defect and karmic debts, what made them sick and kept them stuck. There are so much possibilities out there to heal and live a happy and healthy life no matter what was your original diagnosis There is one thing to accept it and surrender to it but also never stop believing it can be healed.

  • One of the reasons why I have so much respect for Selena is because of her candidness on her mental health and how's she's used her platform on for it. And I love Kelly and realize it's a talk show, but dang Kelly please allow your guests to talk. It's just as important to be able to listen because you didn't bring them on the show to listen to you go on at length. Call them on the phone if you're going to do that. Love both of you though.

  • Hey Y'all, Ms. Kelly, im grateful Selena has come forward and shared her diagnosis. Usually signs of bipolar start earlier. We as a family always knew there was something mentally off with my son. Until he was in mid 20's early 20's he found out that and was disgnosed with bipolar and later schizoaffective. My oldest was diagnosed at 14 years old and she is 34 years old snd still doesnt take meds. The binge alcoholism and cannabis is what she does. Highly intelligent genius child. She started a mexican restaurant called Maricos estapa? Shrimp somethimg. She was 18 years old at the time

    • Men are typically diagnosed around 18-20, and females in their late 20’s. It’s actually VERY common, as is misdiagnosis. Bipolar disorder, ADHD, PTSD, and Borderline Personality disorder present with similar symptoms.

    • I’m glad you recognize the connection between bipolar and genius. It’s true. Everyone on earth is highly intelligent but people with bp have just a little bit more creative intelligence- emotional intelligence. At the genius level :)
