In this video we try snow winging for the first time and share our key takeaways from the experience - including how it compares to kiting for certain conditions. Thank you to Silent Sports for lending us the Flysurfer Mojo to demo with friends!

  • Thanks for the -20°C window cracking rule. Been wondering the limit myself for the past winter and have limited use of my Slick around -5...-10°C and packing carefully into huge paraglider backpack, so far so good.

  • Thanks for winging it with blue mojo and opening my eyes to something different. So many ways to kite and so little time :-).

  • Outstanding! Where are you guys? I am in New York. I have some nearby lakes and ponds, and 2.5 hours away is Oneida Lake which is really large and runs east to west. Great fetch!!

  • It was fun trying it out. It feels a lot “less formal” compared to kiting. No lines, no harness, just grab & go!

    • They don't have the power of the kites, but the ability to ride through trees and launch from difficult conditions makes it worth it. Also, unlike my kites, I can ride upwind, and depower downwind to carve some hills without the wing.

  • To be honest, it looks more appealing and easier than winging on water. I have seen a lot of people struggling with wings on water, but finally I saw some folks who knew what at they were doing and made it look more appealing. But still... on snow seems more appealing, and less hazardous than kiting on a hard surface.

  • I started to wing ski and wing foil last year. I started with a 6.0 m wing and now I have a 7.2 m Naish. Love it. Use harness for winter. Since I am a windsurfer the wing is more intuitive than the kite.

    • Nice! From what we've witnessed, those who know how to windsurf pick up winging pretty easily :)

    • We live by the water so I pump my wing when it stil warm after using it, I bring it in the garage where i put it to room temperature before I folded it. Otherwise the window will crack. I bought 2 more wings for my kids - without window.

  • Lucky you to have such a nice icy, snowy and windy place nearby.🤗 I wish to be there but unfortunately I don’t see any snow coming these next 2 weeks to my place on the forecast!🥺 To be fair, I spend winter in the French West Indies, and the water is quite fresh those days (no more than 25C)😜😎, but the wind is pretty fair 16/20kts😇

  • Snow wing is a great way to step into winging. From a safety side you can very safely ride wings in winds from 15-35 knots and not worry about being launched. Skis are much easier than snowboard but on powder snowboard rocks. Harness lines and a seat harness are a must above 20 knots. ;o)

    • Good to know about the harness line and seat harness! Thanks :)

  • Toooo cold for me. Living in Queensland Australia, winter means gets down to a freezing 20 degrees C and the wind drops down to foiling strength 10 - 15 knots and you need to wear a 2mm spring suit wetty. I can't imagine snow. I'm not as brave as you guys. Well done! Rest assured with global warming you'll soon also be kiting in 20C and I'll have cyclones. I better get a smaller kite.

    • Snow isn’t bad - it can actually be a lot of fun. And really, if you’re dressed appropriately, you’re not cold at all. That being said, I’m just a tiny bit jealous of your conditions! Your “cold” day is a good summer day for us!! 😄

  • Great video. Where are you located? I’m in the Beach. Ashbridge’s doesn’t harden up much, neither does the Outer Harbour. Is this Humber Bay, or Port Credit?

    • Thanks :) part of this video was filmed at Lakeshore Yacht Club in Etobicoke. The inner bay doesn’t always freeze (once every 3 or 4 years) - last year it did.

  • The Ozone WASP v2 wing has windows made of a new silicone-like material that folds and doesn't crack anymore in low temperatures.

  • not sure about being on ice like that, when using a snowboard and kite and wing i guess, remove the backs off the bindings, removes the pressure off your ankles makes it much more pleasant

    @freddydad1@freddydad12 жыл бұрын
    • Yeah that one icy session was no good - we were there for maybe 20 minutes mostly just having fun with the drone. Thanks for the tip on removing the back of the bindings.

  • How much does it cost to get started.

    @coreyacre6070@coreyacre60702 жыл бұрын
    • Depends if you have skis or a snowboard already. If so, it's the cost of a wing - which ranges depending on the size and brand. Ballpark, $1000-$1400 CAD for a new wing.

  • Agree! great for learning the Wing Skills independent of board/foil skills. Parking lots with Longboard skateboards are stupid fun too. As drag decreases, i.e. longboard with blades(ice boards), turny longboard skateboards, firm snow allow lighter winds/smaller wings. Harness is easy and helps. Skis have more versatility. kzhead.info/sun/na6hda98nWaMiHA/bejne.html
