  • I think the structure the termites are building is for air flow and heat regulation in the termite mound. African and South American termites do this to thermo and hydro regulate their mounds.

    • I know! But how is that ”architecture” optimal??xD i think they tryna become artists!

      @nordicants6232@nordicants62325 жыл бұрын
    • Exactly, it only works when the structure is hollow, that one bit is so thin that I doubt it is hollow! :D

      @reidmock2165@reidmock21655 жыл бұрын
    • It doesn't need to be hollow just have passages and rooms inside it to allow for air flow. In Africa monitor lizard dig into termite mounds to lay their eggs to incubate them inside the mounds they are so temperature regulated. After the babies hatch the mother digs back into the mound a week or so after the hatching, meanwhile the baby lizards have a ready supply of food while they wait. Since they were laid as eggs in the colony they have picked up the scent of it and "smell familiar to the termites".

    • That's what I meant by hollow, I guess I should have chosen a more specific word.

  • This is a new hobby. Nordic, I believe you have transcended the hobby of ‘simple’ terrariums and vivariums by focusing on the connectedness and microcosm. As such, the only place on the internet that content for this new hobby you’ve created can be found is your channel. You have a monopoly on a (neary) fully fledged hobby! Release videos faster! • I feel like you created a new hobby, only person on youtube to have so many different insects living interdependently in the same tank. I notice the termites are no dominating as much as they used to. They are weakened so much that they can't even protect their tunnels from squatters. I wonder if they are in trouble? Might be the reason no soldiers are seen they might not even exist. Since they require more food than others.
