  • Who the hell is "Grigoriy Opleidin"? This is what you get if you try to be campy with your pronunciation all the time. Gotham, the dove of chess. Watch his head movements, it's embarrasing.

  • If Levy knew we didn’t care about his OTB rating temporarily dropping awhile and instead just focused on improving, he’d be a GM in 5 years or less. His actual ability is already basically there.

    @64chess@64chess6 ай бұрын
    • He's said before his problem is he gets nervous OTB to a degree he doesn't with online games. Less a problem with his chess skill and more a job for a psychologist. Be sure to like and subscribe and buy merch to help him afford a good one! 😊

      @psymar@psymar6 ай бұрын
    • I'm pretty sure Levy knows we don't care, he retired from OTB chess and we still watch him. He has talked about this exact issue, he has anxiety issues during competitive OTB chess. His ability may or may not be there but he's a full time content creator and fitting studying ontop of videos, chess courses, books, and business is a challange.

      @leovang3425@leovang34256 ай бұрын
    • Yup but there's more to life than being a GM. If the guy doesn't enjoy OTB and it causes him anxiety - well he seems to enjoy doing this and it probably pays much more than being a GM. So why spend five years on two letters doing something that makes you anxious instead of something you enjoy and that pays the bills?

    • Not really. Good development and coordinating your pieces is key. White had no real development in first game whereas Magnus was bringing his pieces out to attack as a team. Bad opening/development means your lost in 15 moves. End game knowledge becomes useful when you learn to stop blundering pieces. Good tactics or check mating knowledge will mean you avoid end games completely or enter end game with an advantage.

      @unique.handle@unique.handle6 ай бұрын
    • @@unique.handle You contradicted yourself in the beginning. Also, Capablanca alone would disagree with your 'assessment' about end games over openings/middle game. Wouldn't be surprised if you've been stuck at 800 elo for 10 years. lol

      @nicholasbunio@nicholasbunio6 ай бұрын
    • That's only because he was playing against a "bad" player. Try playing a3 or h3 or whatever the black equivalent is, against stockfish. It's gonna tear you worse into pieces than magnus does with these GMs. If you are out of memory based playing (that is anyway based on stockfishs favourite moves) then stockfish is gonna R*PE YOU.. in 5 moves.

      @RitaTheCuteFox@RitaTheCuteFox6 ай бұрын
    • @@RitaTheCuteFox Huh? First, a GM isn't a 'bad' player. Second, your last sentence is about stockfish... yet the video is two GMs playing. It's a moot point. Third, if you watch the video, Grigory played one miss with his queen in the middle game, and that's what lost it for him in the first match. If you watched the video. Which goes back to my point of, the middle and end game matters more than the opening. Magnus purposely played a "bad" opening and still won.

I am very colorblind and all shades blend together so I’m assuming it’s just me and maybe the shades are blending but is anyone else experiencing the same thing? Especially in the beginning of the book. The black pieces just blend into the squares and I’m having a real hard time seeing them. Again, great work on the book. I love it!
