  • This video reminded me of just how good Levy is at genuinely analyzing a chess game. Through most of his videos, we get to see his entertaining side, which is fine, but occasionally, it's great to see him do a 30-minute deep dive into one chess game. Hope he does this more, and for really interesting tournaments like the ECCC.

  • Chess is a great sport to watch after the match and hear game analysis, that's why chess organizers and those profiting from it need to think differently than normal sports. As Levy said, nobody is going to set hour and a half spectating a match of chess, but so many people are watching streamers analyzing games. They need to think outside the box, without ruining classical chess either wither by just blitzing the game or doing anything crazy!!

  • The mindgames here are insane: - The fake pawn push with the double rooks while actually just setting a roadblock of the pawns to coax a desperate sacrifice at some point - The fakeout with the queen and rook to the left to make it look like his real plan was to shift to infiltrate into black's ranks starting with the queen and then barreling with the rook and bishop, purposely keeping his own queen also on the dark squares to sell it. I wonder if Magnus had kept those fakes as potential real options or if he was deadset on the bishop/queen threat. That knight guarding all the key dark squares worked so perfectly, knowing Ravi's queen was going to act as a dark bishop, but simultaneously it would only take one move to get the knight to attacking some light squares in Ravi's ranks. Same with the bishop just one move from targeting any light squares... Magnus probably kept all options viable on purpose... such incredible precision...

  • Hey man, I’m trying to improve my chess skills and I think I’ve improved a lot by playing, doing puzzles and watching your videos. I also try to play against bots for practice. I can beat all the intermediate bots fairly easily but as soon as I move to Antonio I can’t seem to do anything so win. I’ve only gotten close to beating him twice and he manages to destroy me in the end game. Any tips on how to get past this hurdle?

  • @7:40 when you talk about repelling the queen side forces, its pretty obvious to me at least that magnus wants the queen on the queen side. its much harder to attack his king on the other side. its a tactic that beginning knight had been up to the entire time. he controls the g5 h4 squares ensuring the only route for queen is on queen side.

  • question about the standards is what should it represent? That's hard to measure. Is it being a certain percentile of participants? Is it being a certain numeric standard? Well that's hard because its well known that ELO drifts based upon new entrants. If the participation rate isn't through the roof then it does appear GM oversaturation is a thing and so it is on the ratings organizations to raise the standards.
