Magnus playing his signature move: Arriving late...
Yep
🤣🤣🤣
“Adjust all the pieces one by one” variation
And dont forget the water bottle opening
Skiing gambit
From what I saw, Magnus also took the time to adjust his pieces as well before making his first move.
I would've been concerned if he didn't.
No matter how late he is, he always has time to tuck in his pieces lol
I think he beat Hikaru to death with a boat oar in that endgame. And what's worse is that Hikaru was the Samurai !
Always do
Magnus does this when he shows up late to a game, its his way of saying hes fine with the time difference
Magnus is actually playing the 'Coming late' gambit 😂
That's what she says.
@@galaxygalaxy4429 I think she enjoyed it a lot though
The AFK gambit
@@galaxygalaxy4429 that means you exceeded her expectations. That's a win in my book
Only botez sisters can beat this gambit😂
Magnus using some true Miyamoto Musashi tactics, coming late for every game.
hA
I did this twice in classical by accident and won both games. Both times my opponents looked annoyed and rushed through their opening and I just got a winning position early. He might be to something.
@@marianorivera3272 He's got so good at chess he's moved onto psychological warfare. Truly a genius of our times

A grandmaster is never late. Nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he mens to.
Imagine being 30 seconds down and still beating Hikaru. Magnus the GOAT

It's crazy how magnus was able to defend that knight while being very low on time , what a time to be a chess fan when magnus is in his prime
Magnus prime is long gone
Magnus’ prime was in 2014
@@GVisionnn He is still by far de best player in the world in all formats. So i would say he is still in he's prime.
@@jokersbrain8377 Not wrong but i think only because he's the best doesn't mean he's in his prime. I could be wrong but i think "prime" is the best form ever and Magnus had that around 2014 i guess
@@GVisionnn Magnus' prime is long gone, yet he's still the best in every format and is looked up to by just about every chess player. What an icon
This game by Magnus was a true definition of squeezing water out of stone. Perhaps the best and most insane game in the blitz part of the tournament.
Well said
You're only gonna get chalk

Hikaru and Magnus are content machine literally.
No, they're literally human beings.
😂
In literal sense, they are humans...
no that’s metaphorically
@@seacucumber1773 you're wrong of your pop open their heads you'll find gears spinning.
honestly magnus has went over the limits of chess like my guy comes late to a match and wins
Against arguably one of the best blitz players in the world.
that aggro gigachad strategy to push the king in to trap the bishop and defend the knight was just genius
One thing I've learned from these high level chess players is it's actually better endgame to be aggressive with the king and keep him hugging your pieces. On back row alone he's dead.
Also suspiciously very computer like. Maybe somebody should be checking Magnus for a butt plug.
@@majorpwner241 Late Game is literally the Kings time to shine
I think that the reason Magnus spent so much time in the first move, is not being late, but seeing a mate in 347 moves unless he plays symmetrically.
What a game. Each player’s defensive abilities really impress. The way they are able to get so far into the game without the evaluation bar really moving is impressive.
yeah, whole game I was watching how it pretty much stayed at 0.0 until the very end, it's really cool to see how even it was despite all the big plays they made
And in this game: MAGNUS SACRIFICED 30 SECONDS!
and he sacrificed THE TIME
@@willmcclard206 he also sacrificed his knight
if he was right on time he could not be in this position and he could possibly lose the game... or not(?)

magnus is not just an animal at chess, he's a farm animal. The GOAT
LMAO you're dumb
😂 That’s right
Magnus is the goat of chess and Hikaru is the lamb of chess Now who's the pig in chess?
@@arithmeticmean you
Fischer, Morphy, Kasparov, Capablanca, Botvinnik.
The way the king tiered and staggered its position to defend those pawns was absolutely sensational - if stockfish did that I'd frown disapprovingly at the dominant superiority of the top bot but Magnus, apparently a human man, did it. In 3 f-ing minutes... No wait 2 and a half. Fuck.
Even worse in under 2 min e 10 sec after he adjusted the pieces 😭😭
For people who haven't seen the video, Magnus readjusted every one of his pieces before playing his first move.
The game, incredible. The backstory, even better. Levy's tangential analysis and humor, legendary.
Magnus converting a losing position into a win is crazy. That king rook maneuver is beautiful, really hard idea to find for the average chess player. Dude really is the greatest endgame player in history and personally, the GOAT for me.
its the fact that magnus plays late with a speed chess player and wins.. dang he is the GOAT
4:21 When Levy said PP on the PP I felt that to my core
I also love some PP on the PP.
the way he commentates felt like watching an intense football match. love it!
how does magnus keep on getting late to matches, i swear its on purpose to give him some challange for once
"For once" - he has lost plenty of games. He is very good, but not unchallenged.
@Presence "plenty" is a stretch, prior to this year it's been 10 years since he's lost 2 games in a row
Remember that this is the same guy who came up with his own gambit that does nothing but waste moves and takes away his ability to castle all so he can give himself a more fair fight against *GMs.* When you're that far above everyone else you don't need to be punctual
@@efellient Not losing games in a row doesn't mean he doesn't lose. I like Magnus, he is really cool and an incredible player, but the wank is insane.
It's insane how they can find such good moves so quickly.

Only levy can stretch a 3 minute game into a 20 minute video
Each has 3 minutes, and you gain 3 seconds in each move, and the number of moves are like the same as a classical game, so its unintuitively the same material to cover

“Black has all ready won connect four” why this got me dying lmao
I like to imagine that even though it was an in person event, Magnus still came storming in without a shirt on to start the match

Magnus Squeezed all the matter in the known universe in the shape of a black king, then he let it rest on Hikaru''s shoulders, what a pressure in the endgame!!!!
Raise your hand if you expected Magnus to lose after coming in late, nobody? Okay.

One of the best Yokozunas in sumo would actually troll the opponent and do several false starts to throw him off balance mentally since everytime he had to bend down and await the clash, sometimes even standing idly for a whole 20 seconds eyeing him down before they started

magnus signature move: arriving late but still destroys the opponent
I've never expected I would laugh so much in a Chess video 🤣 That "It hink Magnus knows how to check mate with a king and a rook" killed me 🤣
This is the reason why Magnus in Endgame is the absolute beast
Maybe Late Magnus is going up the list over Drunk Magnus...
This is on another level how both of them figure out these moves so quickly Both are masters
11:15...post-mortem has its moments. Idk...doubling up the rooks looks nice

i love playing blitz games while listening to gotham analyse games. It's like a podcast to hear someone just throwing out chess positions
I love watching magnus and hikaru face off because watching hikaru decimate every other opponent is mind boggling; seeing magnus tame hikaru easily just gives credence to how incredibly brilliant of a chess player magnus is.
I was thinking "Oh well this game must just be over, Hikaru had such an epic comeback!" And then Magnus sacrificed the knight
I wonder if magnus shows up late on purpose sometimes lol
Psychological damage 😄
“Maybe Magnus was locked in the toilet, we’ve all had something bad for lunch” 💀
It's always a fun show whenever these two sit down to play. The chess world stands still until their game is over.
As much as Hikaru thinks that he has improved by not letting Magnus in his head he still shows similar tendencies OTB as he did before.

14:11 there is actually a very good move for white white can play rook h6 sacing the bishop and when kxb rook captures h4 mate
LOL, black is not obligated to take KxB. Black rook goes to g2 and deliver check, then the rook will take the bishop and not with the king. Obviously Hikaru saw that.
At this point, I think Magnus is late on purpose as some kind of mind game
