So straight out of the box, in my personal opinion, it's the best aviation-related movie I have seen in the last 30 years! It's freaking awesome. I'm still buzzing from it. You won't believe! I was screaming "Yeah buddy", way to often during this movie!
Over the next couple of minutes, I want to talk to you a little about the movie, but don't worry, I won't reveal any spoilers because I want you to enjoy this movie with all its action and surprises as much as I did.
So I'll speak about the actors, a little bit about the plot of the movie, then the most important part, the planes, and at the end why you should go and see it!
Don't think, just do it, and let's get started!
Thank you very much for your time! I hope you enjoy this video!
Wishing you all the best!
Your "Captain" Joe

Joe, the F/A-18 A, B, C and D models are the legacy hornets that have been retired by the navy. This movie only features the F/A-18E (single seater) and F (two seater) models.
Yup the F/A-18 A through D are just Hornets, only the E and F variants are the Super Hornets.
@@blacksukhoi And the EA/18G growler
@@rockhamptonlol3986 yups
@@rockhamptonlol3986 The Growler is technically not a super hornet because it has different systems to support the electronic warfare systems, but it is based on the F/A-18F Super Hornet.
@@Super_Hornet_ Kinda a gray area - a lot (maybe all) of Australia's F/A-18Fs were prewired and modified by Boeing during their STL build so that they could easily and quickly changed from Fs to Gs
I belong to a flying club (to split the cost of aircraft ownership), and the club went out to see the movie together! I was allowed to bring a guest, so I did. Now, she wants me to take her flying.
Good move 😁
Did you tell her you had a Mustang?
Being a pilot is really not as amazing for getting p as you'd think
Just coming from theater. Let‘s make this short: 1. Best sequel movie of all time 2. Must see for every aviation lover Don‘t think, just watch!
That's my problem, the first installment, insulted my intelligence.
if you think, you're dead
@@maximilliancunningham6091 you have no intelligence then lol.
You told me not to think!
You know it's gonna be good when Bill Pullman's son is cast as one of the pilots. That's a good bloodline. His dad outfllew Dark Helmet and single-handedly led the airborne counterattack that saved the world from aliens.
I'm going to see it on Friday I think
Haha, nice comparison.
Lol, Dark Helmet. Spaceballs ftw!
@@SsoulBlade and President Whitmore from Independence Day.
Both were flying F-18s
It would be great if Captain Joe can review more aviation movies!
We have a guy for that already , and he was a real fighter Pilot , search for...Mover Ruins movies.
@@skeelo69 And also 74 Gear's Hollywood vs Reality
3:30 to answer your question, Goose was Maverick's RIO (Radar Intercept Officer) 😁 saw the film today and it was a roller-coaster of emotions ❤️ Cheers Joe!
Top Gun has to be one of the most highly anticipated sequels. Tom Cruise always brings his A Game.
did you know that tom cruise had actually flown an F/A 18 in some of the scenes, and over 90% of the clips are real and inside an actual F/A 18
@@Ghost_Riley_TF141 i doubt tom cruise flew the plane solo. He sat in the back seat for the entire movie. Maybe the pilot let him have some stick time for fun. But no way the navy would have allowed tom to pull the stunts.
@@Ghost_Riley_TF141 he didn’t do any of the flying at all. He’s in the back seat the entire time
....and it did NOT disappoint!
I can’t remember that last time I saw a movie and said WOW…this one blew me away. Don’t forget SR-72 prototype depicted.
Great review, but Super Hornet refers only to the F/A-18E and F/A-18F. The Hornet, or Legacy Hornet, refers to the A, B, C, and D models. Easiest way to tell them apart is that the Super Hornet has square intakes and the Legacy Hornet has roind intakes.
Big facts.
Also, The E/F's are significantly larger than the A/B/C/D's. To complete the lineup, there is an F/A-18F derivative which is the EA-18G Growler, although for a completely different role
another different feature between the legacy and super bugs are the larger leading edge extentions (LERXs) on the super bug compared to the legacy ones the super bug is actually closer in size to the now-retired F-14 tomcats (though still a bit smaller)
Thought the C & D models have square intakes also
@@lzh4950 no... the legacy Hornets (A/B/C/D) have smaller, rounded intakes...
Great review! I saw Top Gun: Maverick during a sneak preview and want to see it again too! Since it was supposed to release in 2020, it was definitely worth the 2 year wait!
I've not seen a Captain Joe video for a while, but I had this sudden feeling to look you up, I couldn't remember the channel name, but I typed "Can a passenger land a plane" because I remembered that was one of the videos, and here you are, 18 minutes ago! Thanks for the review, will be looking out for this movie.
I remember about 20 years ago I heard a super load roar in the sky. I looked up and it was a (almost) Iranian F14 Tomcat low flying as part of a parade. I was flabbergasted and could not believe what I hd saw. Still I get a goose bump when I see F14 flying. Definitely going to watch the movie
Can't wait now, going to watch this tomorrow! Looking forward to seeing more such aviation movie reviews in your forthcoming videos.
Such a good movie. Aerial sequences were superb and also the story had a lot of hearth warming elements. Highly recommended.
Just saw the movie, its a 11/10
How do you know Top Gun is a great movie? Because a close F-15 fly-by wouldn't be able to remove the grin off of Captain Joe's face after he watched the movie 😂 congrats captain, you got me excited to see the movie!
Hello 👋 🎈
Captain Joe I can't thumbs up enough on this review. It's cool knowing that Tom Cruise owns a P51 Mustang 🐎 on of the favorite planes out of WWII. I've always wanted to own a warbird.
For sure one of the greatest movies created, watched it in 4DX and got goosebumps like 30 times
Hello 👋
Great to see you back Captain Joe i love your videos and watched a full day of them the other week 😆 I am going to see it next week 🥰👏🏻❤️
Slight nitpick, F/A-18E/F is the super hornet. The earlier models are the legacy hornets
The F/A-18A/B/C/D is the classic hornet and have been retired for about 3 years. The planes in the movie are the F/A-18E (Single seater) and the F/A-18F (dual seater) Super Hornet
Fantastic video Joe, really looking forward to seeing it during half term here in the UK. I really like it how Goose's son comes back after his Dad was a Radar Intercept Officer in the first film.
It was really good, enjoyed it a lot.
Amazing and Great Analysis, Many Thanks for doing this!!
I saw an early access screening of the movie last night and it was AMAZING! I can't wait to see it again on Friday. They did a great job of using storylines from the first movie without over doing it. And the tribute to Tony Scott was a nice touch.
Thanks Capt Joe for a great review. You were clearly very excited so I will forgive the couple of inaccuracies. I am yet to find anyone, fighter pilots included, who does not give this move an 8+. Cheers mate.
It is F/A-18E/F, not C/D version. You can tell the difference from jet inlet. A-D version have rounded jet inlet, while E/F variant have square inlet
Hey Joe how's it going, glad u enjoyed the film. I was surprised just how good it was and how many links were in this film from the original, its definitely worth watching it. I had the pleasure of reviewing it last week and I highly advise watching it.....8.5/10. Stay safe Joe.....ps great review for a captain 😎😁
Its always a good day when Captain Joe uploads, and even better today with Top Gun in it too.
Hi Joe! Good to see your video on TopGun Maverick! Saw it myself on the premiere day in Denmark - It is a must-see and it is worth at least a 2nd visit to the IMAX for sure.
Thank you for making this video!
Joe: "One of the most beautiful planes to have ever taken off from a runway" Me: "....the XP-55?"
Pffffft baaah what an ugly thing...
Absolutely 🎈
THAT UGLY ASS PLANE
One of the best movies on aviation, just loved it, Hollywood has delivered a true masterclass for aviation fanatic like me.
ayy another captain joe video less goo!
Very excited thanks for the review
Good to see you again on youtube!
the Grumman E-2 Hawkeye airborne warning and control turboprop airplane also made the cut with some gorgeous in-flight shots, also the F-35C Lightning IIs got some fancy glamour angles... and yes (and I apologize 😅😅) reemphasizing the F/A-18s used are the F/A-18E (single seat) and F (twin seat) Super Hornets, the A/C single seaters and B/D twin seaters are the older/original Legacy Hornets, not featured in the film at all due to it being retired from frontline Navy service, though they still fly them on land bases for training/testing purposes, and if I’m not mistaken, the US Marine Corps are still flying them...and apparently they are reluctant to get Super Bugs on their fleets, preferring to get more of the vertical takeoff/landing capable F-35Bs and carrier CATOBAR capable F-35Cs instead... also an added trivia: a total of 3 Super bugs (2 of the -E and 1 -F model) were repainted to depict Capt. Michell’s personal jet during filming. the 2 -E models, after filming was done, were both transferred to the Blue Angels aerobatic team, and are now wearing the team’s livery
Awesome review. Luved it.
I can’t explain how excited I am after seeing this movie. It’s the BEST!
New respect for Tom Cruz... Thank you Captain Joe! Another amazing video!

Just saw it and couldn't agree more with your review. Am ready to go see it again. Amazing aviation and just enough nostalgia for someone such as myself who saw the original in theaters back in the day. #IchBinAlt
Love you captain joe happy Thursday
I saw it early also and it was epic!!! The P51 was a nice touch!!!! Great review Captain Joe!!! ❤️😁
Can’t go wrong w a Classic Beauty ;)
It was an epic movie and truly a love letter to aviation, great review! Goose was an F-14 RIO.

saw it today....its just sooo damn good. Hits right in the feels at times and other times makes you wanna run thru wall and take on the world
Looking forward to it ! Authentic people in authentic fighters !
Gans gut, Joe. Vielen Dank!
Great job Mr. Joe. Nailed it.
Captain Joe !!!! don't disappear ! we love your videos !!!
Marvelous Review Cpt.❤️✈✌
Great review Captain Joe
I saw the movie 4 days after its release. The visuals were INCREDIBLE! The acting was amazing. And it's far more realistic than the 1986 original. That one is pretty great too tho.
That may be the best review I've seen!
Yeah I saw the first one growing up and now decades later I can't wait to watch it this Sunday on IMAX! 🇸🇬❤️
Leo😎
You're at the ODEON! Lucky you Joey! Looks like you had a great time and dressed for the occasion in the flight jacket! So happy Val Kilmer is looking better and wish him well. I'm really needing a One Minute Debrief!
Desmond🎈
Watched it last night and boy, it was an amazing experience. Definitely worth some rewatches
Just saw it today. Absolutely brillaint!
You had me at “Freakin Awesome”. I can’t wait to see it!
Hey 👋
You have got to see it at IMAX! I watched it yesterday and the size of screen and body shaking sounds made it so immersive, absolutely fantastic film!
Thanks for this amazing introduction of this movie. I, as a pilot, will watch it for sure! Many greetings from Wuppertal, Germany, Wolfgang. 🛫👍🏻
Hey 👋
I know Mrs Connelly from Requiem for a Dream and Labyrinth, outstanding performances always. Glad to here the new top gun is doing well, I didn't expect it to
Just watched it! I’m a commercial pilot and this brought me so many memories from the flight school! Is a must! I’ll watch it again in 4D or some thing
The appearance of the SR72 with the close ups of the transitions between normal jet power and scram jet power just made it for me! I love the attention to detail in this film! (Despite the SR72 allegedly being pilotless) But I'll let that one slide. The F18's tearing through the valleys just made for some amazing cinematography!
I’m seeing it later on today and am super excited to see it
The is such a cool review, I love how he dressed up for the occasion, we need to give Captain Joe a Callsign, plz post your ideas in the reply box
Captain this is THE BEST VIDEO ABOUT TOM CRUISE I HAVE SEEN IT AND MAN IT IS COOL "YEAH BUDDY!"
Can’t wait to experience it!
Anthony 🎈💥
It indeed is the best aviation movie! I was at the edge of my seat the whole movie.
it just has to be a Top Gun Marathon. Nothing else will do. Even though I have lost count of how many times I have watched the movie. I practically grew up watching it. CANT WAIT!!!
Math 🧮 🎈
Thank you for a wonderful movie review
Goose was the Radar Intercept Officer, which now named as Weapon System Operator as Bob do ;) Watched twice in a roll with and without IMAX. Highly recommended for all aviation lovers. Don't think, just do it.
Zheng 🎈🤣
I just saw it week ago, and I want TO see again. It is so perfect
As a propulsion engineer (performance engineer on F35 JSF), I concur 100%. This movie is so emotional and deep, especially for people like me.
I'm just regular dentist.... An Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon.. Far from be a pilot or anything related to aviation... But I love the theme and the way you create and perform your videos...
I'm going to see it on Tuesday, as I live in Spain and have to go a special day to see it in English lol. CAN'T WAIT!!
wow - those flight scens were amazing... Liked the referens to the old movie.
This is really nice. You might consider reviewing more aviation movies ;-)
It made me very happy to see that they included the Mighty Tomcat in the sequel. The Tomcat is still the best Fleet Air Defense Fighter the Navy has ever had with still no replacement on the horizon 17 years after its retirement.
Thank you
I watched it yday too and loved it! ✈️❤️
I saw it last night with my 9 year old. Can’t stop thinking how amazing it was!!
Joe, pls upload a detailed video about aircraft type rating plsss.....
Captain Joe, what are your top 10 aviation movies? I am a student pilot at L3HARRIS and I would LOVE to hear your top on-board entertainment for aviation weekends
Just watched it captain... It's so Awesome... No other aviation movie could ever be like the Top Guns.... ❤❤❤❤
Captain Joe, that was the best movie review I have ever seen. 🌏🇦🇺
John 🎈
Totaly agree👍
Can’t get enough of this movie!!! Seen it twice already and ready to see it again for the third time!!!
At 61 YO I did conversion course for L39 and hope to fly back seat this year... excellent movie!
Hmm 🤔
Yoooooo I just watched it and I got the sick limited popcorn Container and about top gun I lovin it thanks Joe for showing it
Goose was a RIO - Radar Intercept Office. He was singing Great Balls of Fire.
Outstanding!
thanks!
Just back from it. Wow, what a film. Usually not into retro reboots or Hollywood films in general. But it's absolutely brilliant. One of the best films of the year!
@@Babararoot55 yes I did smile when the Rear Admiral had my surname 😂
@@Babararoot55 I'm from Dublin 🇮🇪🇪🇺 Ireland and I'm 31
@@DarrenBates oh nice to meet you 💯🎈
Glad my city Birmingham welcomed you 😁👌🏼
Just came out watching this in 4DX, which is the definitive way to see this one for my money. Waited til I could see it to catch this video and was well worth the wait. So crazy that the SU-57 maneuvering wasn't any CG trickery!!
I used to work at the Odeon back in the mid nineties! I can’t believe it’s still open!
Even the sound track gives me goose bumps! ( No pun intended!😂)
Essex 🎈
I have watched 1st Top Gun many times. Goose was the jester( radar operator) of Maverick.
We felt the same just wanted to go back and seeit again, much like doing a theme park ride and running straight back to do it again. Cinemas shoild run both films one after the other with a fuel stop in the middle!
Perfect I AM GOING TO WATCH THE MOVIE Thanks CAPTAIN!!! 👌👌
Totally agree! It is a fantastic movie!
