  • Well Jo, one can also exagerate some of these fuel saving measures. In the airline I used to work with, the Catering Manager bragged with cutting substantial fuel burn by reducing the sugar packages for coffee/tea to half the weight. The result was that most of the passengers asked for a another package. Obviously there were not many more loaded, and passengers left the flight disapointed. The sugar packages were quickly replaced to it‘s original size. 😆

  • Great video! One aspect of inflight service that’s always intrigued me is the duty-free trolley. Almost all airlines have one, including the famously cost-conscious Ryanair, and yet I very rarely see a passenger actually buy anything from it. Clearly it must generate enough sales to justify both the space and weight, especially since it includes bottled spirits and perfumes which are relatively heavy but which also sell for a high price. Do you have any background on the economics of in-flight duty free?

    @mikeprior-jones7779@mikeprior-jones77792 жыл бұрын
    • Not to mention that airlines that have duty-free service often have relatively large/heavy magazines in each seat with a list of the products; additionally, some airlines have a second magazine with their own self-advertisement - articles about their services/new routes/planes,etc - and reviews/descriptions of what is available on the in-flight entertainment system, all of which could easily be moved into the inflight entertainment system itself.

Personally, as a middle-aged man, I try to pee as often as convenient, and certainly as close to a flight as possible because it takes a while to board, taxi, and get in the air and the Captain turns off his light to let us go to the bathroom without getting scorn from the flight attendants (who are standing up and doing beverage service even if the seatbelt light is on).

Using a comma (which many understand) would also be confusing to those used to seeing a period. How about using the international ISO standard and simply use a space in place of a comma or period ... everyone can understand that without confusion.

  • Cabin air compressors and battery weight took away the perceived benefits of not having bleed air systems. Which is why the Airbus A350 still being heavier is more fuel efficient than the 787 on same routes and capacities and is more profitable to airlines. Upcoming 787 HGW versions are pointless too as they still do not have enough range than the Airbus A350.
