  • I would like to see the best export tanks in three different categories, 1. Cheap tanks. If you are on a very tight budget and/or your enemies only have Cold War Junkers and improvised armor, what would be good enough for that? Some candidates would upgraded versions of the M60, T-55 or T-62, earlier T-72 variants. 2. Good Value tanks. You have a larger military budget and anticipate on fighting a conventional military that has access to late Cold War armor, so an M60A3 or T-72M will likely prove to be insufficient, but your budget doesn't allow for the latest and greatest. Some candidates would be an later T-72 Variants, a T-80 variant, Leopard 2A5 or 2A4, or early M1 Abrams variants. 3. Best Tanks. You have a very large military budget and either intend to flex it or to possibly fight an invasion from the great powers(USA, EU, RU, China for example). Candidates would include T-90, M1A2, Leopard 2A6 or 2A7, K2 Black Panther.

    • Only 1. work for Ukraina, if you have a large military budget and can afford good or best tanks, you buy "politcal suport" or signal your politcal alignment in the huge wepon deal, good or best tank deal involve.

    • it's a very hard design to execute well. Even for Israel, which is a rich country with excellent technology. When you place the engine at the front, it makes the tank very front-heavy and makes it tip forward. This becomes especially pronounced during high speed maneuvers. Israeli Merkava is designed for urban combat and is not meant to be a fast tank - it works well for their terrain and works well for IDF doctrine, which relies on superior air force to take out enemy tanks. For Ukraine, with vast open spaces and with very weak air force, it's the worst idea. It needs highly mobile tanks that can achieve break-throughs with minimal air support. Leopard design seems ideally suited for Ukraine, in my view.

      @mrvk39@mrvk39 Жыл бұрын
  • They should have gone with a Namer concept instead. Basically a merkava hull, but no turret, or a smaller turret with an auto cannon. This allows for more room for infantry and their equipment. The APC offers the protection of a tank, but can still carry a decent amount of troops.

  • Torque in itself is pointless value. It adds up to hp when combined with RPM. RPM value shows how well tank divides its power into smaller chunks. Vehicles which need a lot of start up power like tractors usually have massive RPM. Torque shows how much rotary strength vehicle produces. Vehicles like trains need low RPM and huge torque engines which allows them to push massive amount of weight at the cost of abysmal acceleration.

  • The brilliant concept of combining Main Battle Tanks and Infantry Fighting Vehicle features into a single platform would be undisputed in terms of operational flexibility and optimized more efficient organizational structures and logistics in the armored corps. Sadly that is very hard to pull off on restricted budgets and limited resources. On top of that this would force personnel to cross train between armored crew and infantry to sustain group cohesion and clear understanding when establishing communication or coordination. The material cost and investment on human capital would be off the charts in terms of expenses, time to train, ultimately to yield both flexible and effective combat performance. This concept would of been a prime example of force multiplier, however, the cost would of been great and requires downsizing the sum of personnel in each armored personnel. Doubtful that congress would spend that much money on a high quality but smaller armored corps. Hope the Ukrainians found a way to go around this problem of reducing these high inputs and maximizing higher outputs at economically sustainable levels. Something to keep in mind on the next generation armored vehicle on congressional budget meetings and the U.S. Army modernization programs because it's money you paid for in taxes. Not saying, "can't argue with tax payers" but they are the very people the U.S. government has to answer to.

  • Hey @RedEffect, im new here but I've got a little correction for you, we used to stuff infantry into our Merkava back door, with full gear you can stick between 1 and 3 boots in there without removing ammo. So it's sort of like, it's not a full APC, but it's not exactly what you said, so thought you should know, if you wanna know more I can fill you in on the deets

  • Imagine if Ukraine had a force of 400 T-84-120 Yatagan tanks, the T-84 with all the features of the Oplot-M and the Western-style turret with 120mm gun and optional ATGM's for it, and an additional 100 tanks with the infantry squad option and the same turret. It'd be pretty nifty, as 1-in-5 tanks could bring an infantry squad along with it, and each tank would have Western-style armor protection, ERA, active protection system, and weapons, making them far more survivable than Soviet-era tanks. It'd be like the Abrams, but at half the price. But instead, Ukraine is a corrupt hellhole, sold all their gold to the US after the CIA led a violent coup to overthrow their democratically-elected government in 2014, only produced 10 T-84 Oplot-M's for themselves and could barely manage to make 49 for Thailand, because they're just a money-laundering operation for the Bidens, Rothschilds, and Klaus Schwab and their buddies in JP Morgan, Blackrock, etc. now.
