The 1994 Plymouth Voyager they had before that had a recall for the rear window wiper motor seizing up and causing the airbags to deploy. Don’t ask me how. A couple of weeks after we got that recall notice (but before getting it in to have the repair done), our rear wiper motor seized up and it immediately turned on the air bag light. I’ve never seen my dad bail out of the car so fast 😂

I was told by the company that supplied the kits that this modification wasn’t recommended as the lights weren’t made for HID’s and I was likely to “dazzle” oncoming traffic, causing them to go off the road and crash. I responded that if anyone had gotten onto our closed roads during a rally race and was coming in the opposite direction, I would prefer they get dazzled, go off the road and crash rather than me hitting them at speed.

  • Wow, gotta say I'm surprised you missed the actual biggest Toyota issue. Early Prius models had slippery floors and the floor mat would slide up under the brake pedal and prevent you from stopping. I think it also caused the gas pedal to stick. That's why all driver's side floor mats have a way of securing them now. Got more to add: GM did it again with a set of Silverados that had LED headlights too bright. I think maybe 2019's. 2008 VW's had a recall for a fuel line that wasn't secured and would rupture over top the engine. 2016 WRX had an owners manual replacement page that they mailed to owners. And let's not forget the most recalled vehicle of all, the mid-2010's Ford Escape.

Your car might light on fire in the engine bay, throw you into a skid when the back brakes lock up, lose windshield wipers because of a circuit board, lose heat altogether when your heater core fails, and have the newly replaced shifter knob come off right in your hand.

  • about 20yrs ago, i had a buddy who was driving home late at night, was on north 2 freeway here in Los Angeles. somehow by some weird cosmic chance, a deer decided it wanted to play chicken across the road. he hit it at speed, and the crazy part was not that he lived, thank God he did, but the air bag never deployed. he ended up suing honda and got a fat settlement

  • I can personally attest to the VW Seat heater issue. Back in the day when I had my MK IV Jetta, my legs and dong got singed when the heating element burned through the seat. It hurt like hell!

  • To fix the wind buffering problem in the Supra or any other car, all you need to do is equalize the pressure by cracking another window.

  • I wouldn't make fun of people that got the sticker recall. Some states won't let your register a car that has an unsatisfied recall on it. So I imagine some folks HAD to.

  • Here's a funny recall story for you. My wife had an early 2000s Pontiac Grand Prix, and we got a serious sounding recall notice stating that a problem with the ignition system could lead to the engine turning off unexpectedly while driving. So we took the car into the dealership expecting the ignition cylinder to be replaced. Instead, they took the car key, popped a little plastic plug into the key ring slot and said they're all done. Why? Because it turns out the issue with the ignition system was that some people had so many keys on their key rings that when the key ring slid all the way to the edge of the slot on the key, the weight of all the keys would apply torque to the ignition cylinder literally turning the key to the off position. The little plug they put in the key ring slot simply turned the slot into a small perfectly centered hole so even the heaviest key rings would pull straight down instead of generating torque.

  • Both my 2005 Legacy GT and 2005 Outback had white spiders in the headlights. I never saw, or heard, of white spiders before or seen any anywhere else. The Outback already had some when I bought it, there were more in a few years after. My hypothesis is that the BP chassis headlights are a portal to a white spider realm, but since they are well sealed they cannot escape.

  • My dad's Toyota Avalon had blown the airbag while sitting and running, what we did was remove both bags and added an aftermarket steering wheel. He been driving and loving it ever since, I wound up removing the airbags in every car I've owned because I've never trusted them and asthma really does suck when they blow and I don't need another massive hospital bill lol

  • Subaru issued an extended warranty for a known issue with the EJ25 motors. Problem is, they cut it off at a certain year (2012?) even though the engines made from 2005-2011 were essentially the same as the ones they extended the warranty on. Oh, and my 2013 Subaru BRZ was one of the first 1,000 delivered in the US. Subaru sent me an updated owner’s manual bc there were so many errors in the original one!

  • The VW ID4 door handles are electronically operated and there is a plastic membrane that covered the electronics which for a short period of time it would be poorly fitted causing moisture to get in and making the doors swing while turning a corner with the car

  • One of the worst recall items I can think of was in 2013 Subaru Outback models where you could pull the entire steering column out if you were adjusting the wheel up and down while driving. My fam had just bought our outback and were informed via mail like a week later about the recall. We thought it was a crazy one time kind of thing they were hoping to avoid. Like. How often would something as wild as that happen, right? Joking about it with a friend, we found out this exact scenario happened to that friend’s neighbor while going about 45 mph down a windy road a couple weeks prior. Leg room for the driver wasn’t quite the same after the fix, but we could live with it considering the alternative. Absolutely nuts

  • Just a heads up, the CR-V owners didn't just go to the dealership for an owners manual sticker. They go for an oil change, and any recalls that haven't been done to the vehicle, get done to the vehicle, sticker included.
