I remember reading about this car years ago. I can’t remember what it used for an engine. If memory serves the gyroscope moved depending on steering input. The gyroscope could also be engaged to the driveline, briefly, for an extra boost of torque to the drive wheel. Today we could use on-board computers to articulate the movement of the gyroscope. Quite clever and certainly unique for its time.
"..... I can’t remember what it used for an engine....." I think it's a BMC Mini.
@@pepwaverley2185 I think so.
Power train came from an Austin front wheel drive car with BMC 1275cc engine.
That is THE coolest car I've ever seen!!!! I'd love to see it in person so I could inspect it closer as a Professional Aircraft Technician I'm very interested in how the Gyroscope is coupled to the Vehicles chassis to keep it erect!!!! Fascinating Car to say the least.
The chinese were making motorcycles that stand alone several years ago, nothing new
@@augustusomega4708 Yes I know but this was in 1967!!!!! Thanks for playing.................
@@afterhourshotrods6882 It took you 2 weeks, whatever we just played was geriatric level
Old days were awesome. People just did what came to their mind.
Absolutely right. Their vision of modernism was so much more attractive than ours!
They still do, have you seen Bruce Jenner lately.
People still do that, literally every day. With 3d printers being pretty cheap it's even easier now a days to prototype and create parts. Videos constantly being uploaded of new creations.
What an insane thing, love that it’s all 60s technology!
It's retarded for 1960s in the late 1940s someone could have done way better. Seriously!😎
So is the blackbird. Fastest plane ever built.
Liked to have seen some corners taken at speed!
If this fun technology could be incorporated into a motorcycle the results would be amazing. It seems like a perfect fit. Sitting at a stop light without having to put your feet down.
it would add some weight but for a cruiser it wouldn’t be a problem. also I would make it to turn on only below a certain speed plus manual override as well.
Looks like a Torpedo designed in the 60s
Looks like a cutted Corvette C3
Kantanos I was thinking that.
Lolololol
Studebaker Avanti, not a Corvette...

What an interestingly weird looking car. I would love to see some street driving with a little more speed. When turning for a bend at more speed is the car leaning into the corner or does is stay upright? Well due to the gyro holding it, the gyro itself would have to lean in faster corners to lean the car... really interesting.
That wasn't the first one. There was a car and a railway train on the same principle. The car is preserved and at display in the UK.
And trams🐯
I dont think it can be even categorised as a specific vehicle....car bike, cab cycle?! Whatever they made this for, its nonsense.
You can see the little wheels sticking out to the side so it won’t rub the ground in corners. I wonder how much space it takes to turn it around?
What engine was used. I remember seeing this or a similar car on a show called tomorrow's World on British TV. I didn't think it would catch on but at the time my elder brother had a Bond 3 wheeler with a 300cc villiars engine with no revers gear. To reverse you spun the steering wheel 180dgs and the engine turned so you had 4 reverse gears. It was made from alloy and didn't have ignition start. You opened the bonnet stood inside the engine bay and kick started it. Suppose this is better in many ways. But the bond only cost £350 new in the early 1960s. He then bought a bond bug and told me I would have one soon ! I was 6 at the time and thought wow my very own bug, great, I couldn't wait to get one.
Power train came from an Austin front wheel drive of the early sixties. I recall it being the Austin 1100 model but this gives the engine as 1275cc. It was an experimental car dreamed up by Alex Tremulis who also designed the Tucker car, the first flying saucer and a number of advanced vehicles for Ford.
“Yeah,Baby!!” -Austin Powers
Would like to see some faster road action, maybe burnout. ;-p
no. drift.
Seriously? This thing is a piece of junk! But for the concept ,it is poorly done. It's like someone with turn of the century 1900 technology built this noisy abomination from watching to many harold loyd movies.Giggles.😎
@@michaelshultz2540 What have you built?
@@michaelshultz2540 It was made in '67. The home computer wouldn't even be introduced for 10 years. What have YOU done with all the technological advancement since? Nothing. How about you stop criticizing people who actually know how to create things and go do something other than uploading a video in 144p of some cats.
If anxiety was a car...
Definitely cool! Thanks for posting.
"That just looks like a bike with extra steps"
É a coisa mais esquisita que já vi! 👀
Why dont we have cars like this today. Well ahead of its time
anti-roll bar: i am the best part in existence to remove roll from a vehicle gyroscope: hold my beer
I bet Jay Leno would love to have one of these rare beauties in his collection.
This car is very cool, can balance itself very well.
@1:50 is that my boi effspot 🤣
Vejam como esse sistema de auto-equilibrio ja era usado como nesse projeto dos anos 60'....sensacional !
I consider myself a knowledgeable car enthusiast. However this contraption has escaped me. It would have been a good fit in the Citroën lineup back in those days.
Ya this is a stupidly designed contraption that looks like it came out of a Pink Panther cartoon. 😎
The Wolseley Gyrocar was a two wheeled car held upright by a gyroscope, located between the front and rear seats. Birmingham, England, 1913. : OldSchoolCool
Enormous potential. I am going to start building a track testing prototype.
Old school 007 stuff. Beautiful.
Straight from the ' Jetsons ' Excellent 👍🚀
That’s a crazy lookin car and concept. You know? PWG
What a trip!
That wont tip!
That was so freaking wild
Amazing car. Mini corvette 😂 Love to own one.
Half vette😂
Looks fascinating 👍👍
Its like an aircraft without wings
I need this car sooo badly
So amazing :)

Probablement une des plus belle « auto » jamais conçue .😍

THIS LOOKS COOL!.
Absolut genial👍👍👍

When you want to carry your C3 Corvette into a Ryanair plane
I bet that was a wild night seeing it balance for the first time if it was a frame off restoration or more wild still a barn find
Como esse carro fica equilibrado ??? INCRÍVEL !!!

I want to see that 2 wheeled car drifting of course with eurobeat music in the background
1967+1275cm³=Austin miniCooper motor.for the rest there are things that are more recent but it's all the manufacturing that is great
Imagine a whole parking garage for those things
Podem ter certeza que no futuro os carros voadores... vão ser mais ou menos assim ....perfeito
That! Is very cool.
Может я ошибаюсь - всё что сейчас существует изобретено с конца 19 века по середину 20-го,а сейчас только модернизируется. Тогда была эпоха изобретателей, сейчас - "модельеров"...
I marvel at that !
Pensei que já tinha visto de tudo!!
Cool!! I wanna try it!!!
Guaooo excelent!!!!
Coole Technik 👍👍👍
very cool
This gonna end in danger!
Nice casket
ah yes, Slim Corvette
it's crazy too me that they were already able to do stuff like this back then wow
Unfortunately, they weren't able to get it working safely. It became unstable at speed. They didn't specify why in the vid I saw but I'm guessing cross-ply tyres didn't do it any favours also the lack of computing power that can nowadays check and correct instability hundreds, if not thousands of times a second may also have taken its toll. This with electric drive in the hubs of the wheels would make a great commuter vehicle and dumping the ICE engine would give enough space for a passenger.
Someone needs to make a modern car like this
An amazing utilitary
Офигенная тачка!!!!!!!
Это технология с гороскопом ещё 1900-х годов.
It always reminds me of Davis Divan.
Ahh the 60s
Looks like an Avanti rear end with early Chrysler LeBaron front end all squished in.
車体が倒れないようにジャイロセンサーがついているんですね!凄いな!
Very rare!
Wow asombroso
Think about having an issue with this car that you need while you're driving and need to call a meccanic... You: Hello I've an issue with my car... Meccanic: What is Happened? You: I think I've broke the Gyroscope. Meccanic:....... ...You have broke what??!
Which is that silver car standing next to it in the video ?
Is that the way it's going to be moving on the road, coupled with that insane noise?.
Tiptop
Perfektní, kde to má křídla?

Imagine how many lost their lives in that death trap
This serves as an aprendiceship for Young mechanics, but impratical...
Interesting.
I need it!
It definitely has late model Corvair tail lights
1964 Corvair taillights.
Wicked car! Why is it so freaking loud though?
best scene at 1:24😆 it‘s raining again..
Interesting! So those pipes sticking out the sides are to keep the bike (car) from leaning too hard into turns? And the flex pipe in the rear is the tail pipe suggesting this vehicle is powered by a motorcycle or similar engine? And the long nose suggests a motor-generator-battery of some kind is hidden under the bonnet? And the noise it makes is the gyroscope spinning up on battery power alone? So many questions and sooo little explanation. A little more information would go a long way here, guys.
Side wheels are for when the car is parked for long periods. Otherwise it is held upright by a gyroscope. When the car is started the gyro revs up, and the car stands straight up and does not need any support. Power plant is from a front wheel drive Austin 1100 of the early sixties. Under the bonnet is a 180 pound gyroscope that takes up most of the space. Engine is in the back.
Probably easy to park. Thanks for the content. Keep up the good work. בס'ד
Have those people ever heard of, I don't know, a motorcycle?
Now make one that hovers and I'm in .
When innovation was a thing back then.
Sounds good..exhort pipe should be fixed properly..good luck.
Mobilnya unik keren kayak speedboat
Rev the Gyro and do a Burnout for us !!!!!
this would be nice also as a 3 wheeler or as a normal 4 wheel car as well
I want one!!
I imagine that it’s “landing gear” would come down when it said it stop, or when it is slowing down. It sounds like it’s ELECTRIC, too! I wonder if we can actually drive faster than 3 to 5 mph?! There’s no video to prove that it can.
The wheels only need to come down when the engine is off, that is what the gyroscope is for. Its not actually as quiet as you think the sound of the gyro and the diff is loud enough that you can't hear the engine that much, so no, its not very quiet its your point of reference that's off.
QUE LEGAL CARA! PARABÉNS! SISTEMA GIROSCÓPIO! FUNCIONA MESMO! womarcal>rio de janeiro>brasil

What a terrible noise! Imagine a street full of 'em! Thank goodness they never happened.
