  • The FIAT S76, later also known as the FIAT 300 HP RECORD and nicknamed "the Turin beast", was a car built in 1911 by the Italian company FIAT specifically to break the land speed record held in those years by Blitzen-Benz. Its 28,353 cc engine had a displacement of 290 hp. In 1911, driven by Pietro Bordino on the Brooklands circuit and on the beach of Saltburn it touches 200 km / h. Front engine type S76, 4-cylinder in-line bibblock with 28,353 cc engine capacity for 290 hp at 1,900 rpm, compressed air starting with 3 spark plugs per cylinder, low voltage magnet ignition, water cooling, chain transmission, axle suspension rigid with front and rear leaf springs (rear longitudinal struts), 4-speed gearbox plus reverse.

I'm sure that takes a little getting used to as you usually don't like to see Flames coming from your vehicle. Unless it's some kind of Supercar and these are yesterday supercars. • @@lordmg2068 The engine is a BMW VI, that was usually used in Dornier Seaplanes before WW2 (e.g. Amundsen used them in his arctical expeditions). The engine was only used in the first 111 prototypes, because the Daimler-Benz engines were not ready. The bombers had DB-600 engines with higher power and smaler size. The funny thing is, that the engine was found in spain on a scrap yard, and the guy who found it thought, he must build a car of it, thinking that the engine was only half the size it really was... When restoring the engine, they discovered, the engine is much bigger than they first thought. Is you think the exhaust pipe is strange: They use it for barbecue… :)

Death traps this really became a parent from the video footage of the last car it was as though you were sitting in the seat driving it and as I was looking down the nose of the skinny bicycle size tires I thought to myself I sure wouldn't want to be driving too fast in this thing because it's narrow is that car is it looks like it could easily roll over and with those little skinny tires I doubt it's going to have much traction in the corners especially when compared to today's cars in a straight line it would be okay but if it started going a little sideways on you I think it will just turn into a roll and you wouldn't be able to stop it.

  • Fun Fact... Brutus has melted tarmac before. So starting it on wet grass was why the fire extinguisher was needed!! If I remember correctly, that BMW engine came from a WW2 Tank. The 1500hp Rolls engine was also the tank version of the Merlin...without the supercharger. With the supercharger, it was fitted to Spitfires.

    • Most if not all cars were build in the 2000s or late 1900s. The engines used are usually from bomber or fighterplanes.

  • The Mormon Meteor depicted at 5:07 is the original Duesenberg Special version of the car. I have been under the hood of that car twice. It has a Duesenberg 420 cid (7L) straight 8, not the aero engine the video mentions. The video of the car was likely taken after its restoration, as the passenger “door” and the U-bend in the exhaust under door have both been corrected to original form. The Firestone “orange wall” tires are missing though. I have only seen the orange tires on the car once. It made for some awesome photos. The Meteor is likely my favorite American built car.
