Finally somebody who doesn't waste all that beautiful wood and expensive resin Enjoyable to watch
Coring is the only way to go! Thanks 🙏
Finally !!! Thank you for saving those smaller bowls. I keep watching videos of people shaping the outside of the bowl a then turning it over and turning 80% of the blank to sawdust that just gets dumped. It hurts to watch them.
It sure does! Thanks 🙏
Jim, My sister doesn’t do wood working, but she watches your videos when she’s feeling sad and stressed out during her finals. She recommended them to me and I throughly enjoyed it as well. You’re a great guy.
Awesome, thanks for watching!
I can't remember another video where the creator lowers the volume of the louder parts (bamging hammers and pots around) like you do and I appreciate you so much for it! Your purple projects mesmerize me!
It bothers me too, thanks!
Man I really need to get a wood lathe back in my life. I’ve had so many ideas from watching KZhead videos such as this. When I finally do, I’ve got to learn the whole resin game without a pressure pot.
I plan on doing a casting next week on the bench, no pressure pot. Thanks
You originally mentioned giving the smallest one to your wife. I hope you did. It even had a perfect heart in it. I wish I could have all three others. Absolutely Beautiful!
It actually went to my daughter, thanks 😊
The small bowl would be perfect for dipping bread.
000
Hallelujah!!!! A man not afraid to try new things...and also colour...love the combination of the wood and choices of colour...absolutely beautiful work...
Thanks 🙏
Ha ha! Thanks so much!
I know you made these bowls a year ago,but I still have to comment on how awesome they are I have never seen bowls carved out of the same wood, what a brilliant machine. The colours in these bowls are awesome, you are so clever.
Glad you like them! Thanks
I had no idea you could get multiple bowls out of this. Fantastic! I thought this was going to be one huge bowl. Beautiful, beautiful craftsmanship! That purple just POPS!!! Gorgeous!!
Thanks 😊
One of the few if not the only wood turner that I've seen that does not waste the wood.
I try to use it the best that I can, thanks.
I love the fact you cored it instead of turning all that beautiful wood to dust!
I plan on doing a lot more of this! Thanks
Those are some very pretty bowls. Jim, one thing I really appreciate is that you admit making mistakes and warn people about doing the same thing. That's very professional!
Being self taught, I’ve made plenty, lol. Thanks 🙏🏻
E
I love the cute little heart in the middle of the smallest bowl😍
Totally unplanned too, lol. Thanks
I Love trees - wood! Is Mother Nature’s gift to mankind! We use it as firewood to keep us warm and cook on. To making pencils cooking tools or furniture. To name a few items. But watching these amazing turned pieces, been made is fab. I’ve seen turned vase - bowls - coffee spoons but what you did with this wood in cutting the bowls is pure skill & genius and the finished polished patterns is awesome!
Thanks 😊
@@SpragueWoodturning Ur welcome … love watching something amazing been created from a piece of old Wood. I renovate old/ broken furniture, and make stuff from fallen branches or driftwood! using stains - paints - Metallics & various finishes. I never throw anything away I find in skips or can fix or use! But what you do with wood is truely wonderful, much thanks for taking the time out to make the excellent videos too! 👍
I typically don't leave comments. But I aspire to do wood turning when I grow up (I'm 53 now). And I was just amazed at how these turned out! I am nowna subscriber to your channel. Great work!
Awesome, welcome aboard, thanks
That color is beyond amazing. Absolutely my favorite color of all times. The bowls turned out so beautiful 😍.
Thanks!
Quote of the day: “Why do I do this to myself?” 🌞. It’s nice to see a master at one with his craft.
We’ve all been there, haha. Thanks
My Uncle's was "More trouble than my money.". He was a master carpenter and cabinet maker.
Your smallest bowl would make a great spare change dish or a ring and jewelry dish for the end of the day. It will look good sitting on your dresser in your bedroom. Your wife will love it for sure! Great job on these beautiful bowls. The lilac is simply spectacular with its beautiful shine. You did a great job on these.
Thanks again!
Wow 4 bowls from one piece of wood, gotta be a winner. Fantastic end result
Thanks 😊
When you think about it, you’re really quite special, to think that 720,000 hours of content get uploaded to KZhead every day, and the one hour that came from you is part of the 5% of stuff that isn’t total garbage Edit: of course, this is some of your best work yet. Don’t think my highest praise is “you’re not garbage”
Lol, thanks Joe. I’ve come a long way in my video skills and editing. I very fortunate to have a great base of subscribers that watch my videos every week helping me to keep the lights on in the shop! Thanks again!
My dad is a woodturner and I'm definitely going to show him this because purple is my favorite color and I want him to make me some of these bowls. Thanks for the idea!!
Great! Thanks for watching!
My wife enjoys watching your videos before sleeping; says your work is beautiful and peaceful to watch
I guess I’m boring, hahahah. Just kidding, thanks.
😱 I randomly came upon this video. These are BEAUTIFUL!!!
Awesome, thanks 😊
WOW, WOW, WOW!! OMG, Jim, you made that big, old ugly burl into 4 gorgeous bowls! You picked a beautiful color and it just made the bowls more wonderful. Good job, 2 thumbs up, Jim!👍👍
The colors are a great match, thanks 🙏
My son said to me if the large, finished bowl "that's the best bowl I've ever seen! You need to make that!"
Lol, he has good taste! Thanks
Gosh, I’m sitting alone and announced out loud, “Wow, what a beautiful bowl!” And sighed. Lol
Lol, thanks 😊
That little one would make a nice soap dish in the bathroom. I hope your wife loves it as much as I do.
Thanks for watching!
I think it's fantastic that not only are you able to make use of wood that has big imperfections, but that you got 4 beautiful pieces out of this one. The little one would be great as a candy dish.
It’s the only way to go, thanks 🙏
Im not a fan of Purple, but this changed my mind... This is Amazing. Great Work.
Glad you like it! Thanks
The fact that someone could check the hands down for your beautiful videos just shows what a bunch of clowns troll around on youtube hitting the thumbs down button just to be mean!
I guess I talk too much 🤷♂️ thanks 😊
I am absolutely IN LOVE with a full set idea!!!!
Thanks 😊
The purple resin with cherry burl, oh my heart, those bowls are beautiful!
The purple is awesome! Thanks 😊
@@SpragueWoodturning I thought so too and it was awesome watching you as you were working
You started pouring the resin and immediately I was like 'this is gonna be good!' And I am in full support for you to start doing resin tables
It’s one of my favorite colors. Need to make a bigger shop for resin tables, lol.
I really enjoy spending the time watching your videos. I almost always watch it all. Sometimes I pause and come back. You put so much info in these. I don't want to miss a thing. Thank you, Jim!
Thank you very much!
That smallest bowl will make a really nice ring dish! 👍💚
Correct, that’s what it’s being used for, thanks 😊
@@SpragueWoodturning ❤
Love "The Heart" in the smallest bowl. They all look fabulous.
Thanks 😊
I saw that to and thought how fantastic a family of bowls with lots of love
4 beautiful bowls, and the choice of wood is outstanding. You knocked it out of the park with this video.
Thanks Greg!
Yeah, agreed all those bowls are beautiful. Now my wife wants to buy a set haha
Lol, let me know. Haha. Thanks
Beautiful again. You have joined the resin crew.
Allllllll aboard, lol. Thanks
This is the first video I have seen using a Core cutter, absolutely amazing, it's a great way to use all the burl, so much less wastage. These bowls are stunning. You really are very good at your craft, well done! By the way, I love purple and the gold sets it off beautifully, a great way to fix problems. Your work is amazing. These are the best bowls I have seen yet!
Wow, I really appreciate it! Thanks 🙏
Wow! I was not a fan of the Purple until you put the first coat of finish on. The grain in the burl and the patterns in the resin really jumped out and looks fantastic! Those bowls will make a great set for someone.
The purple is awesome, I’m like you, wasn’t so sure about it when I used it months ago but I knew it would be stunning in this blank, thanks
The four bowls nesting together make it a unique set. I'd buy it. 👍👍👍👍
Very difficult to sell a set like this. All total this set would retail for $800ish, thanks 🙏
You are a true artist with resin with wood .
Thanks 🙏
Those bowls are absolute works of art! You are a very skilled craftsman. I’m not sure how I ended up on this side of KZhead, but your video was a pleasure to watch.
Awesome! Thanks for stopping by to watch! Jim
Girl, if you don't already watch wood and resin turning videos, I can't recommend it more highly! It helps with my anxiety quite a bit and gets the creative juices flowing. Lol Glad you found this side of the KZheads!❤😊
Those are gorgeous! The littlest one is absolutely adorable.
Thanks 😊
I found this channel and I can't stop watching these videos. Love from Brazil.
Glad you like them! Welcome aboard!
Terrific save of a nice burl! They are beautiful. Had me worried you were going to break or crack the resin when you banged on the bowls to break them free. Your experience payed off!! Wonderful workmanship. Thanks for sharing.
My biggest concern was that it was going to go flying across the shop if I cut it off, lol. Thanks
Just thinking about how funny it would be if someone walked in on you turning and hearing you suddenly shout "625!" to yourself. 🤣
I do get some strange looks from the road sometimes when filming, 😂🤣😂🤣😂 thanks.
I have never and will never turned wood. I have always want to do woodworking. It runs in my family. My great grandfather, grandfather and father were all woodworkers. Those are gorgeous. Happily watched the entire video.
Awesome! Thanks Mary!
I've always had an issue with turning bowls due to waste. But this fixed that issue. That's really cool.
It does and puts even more money in your pocket too, thanks 🙏🏻
Hello there, from Las Vegas,NV! I am new to your channel, and want to thank you for showing us your coring and resin skills.I found this all very interesting, mesmerizing, and entertaining! I also just wanted to tell all the commenters on this particular video that I noticed that every single main comment had a response...AMAZING! There were over 540 comments and all was acknowledged. Do you answer every comment,on every video? Most of the replys are relevant to each commentor,so you must arrange alot of time each video to be able to do this. I admit that I read all your resonses, and enjoyed doing that as much as I enjoyed watching the video it self...TOTALLY worth it, thanks again. Also, you said that you were self taught, have you ever been a teacher or a trainer? One day, thousands of years into the future, some one will dig these 4 bowls out of where ever and bring them back together and put into an art gallery or a museum for all to understand what people were "turning" in the year 2021!🤭😊👌✌🖖👍👍💚
As you seen, I answer all the comments in every video, I think it’s important to be engaged with my viewers and to let them know that I’m here to answer their questions if they have any. Most times it might just be a thanks or thank you 🙏 but I’m sure that people are pleased that I’ve read their comment and thanked them for it. I’m retired from the Canadian army after 24 years of service and during my time there did some teaching like we all do in the military. That’s probably where the teacher/trainer comes from. When I first started turning, places like KZhead didn’t exist so I read books and bought videos and that’s the way I learned to turn. Being lefthand I’ve adapted a stile of turning that most turners don’t do, I’m pretty unique in that regard. Having one of my pieces in a museum would be icing on the cake! Thanks for your awesome comment! Jim
This is amazing. I am binge watching your videos. What an artist you are!
Great, thanks 😊
Jim, Your bowls are beautiful. In the past I had achilles tendonitis for six years in a row. I also had tennis elbow. I started taking hyaluronic acid capsules and the achilles tendonitis was gone in three days. The tennis elbow took about a month and neither has ever come back. Keep up your good work.
Interesting, I will check into it, thanks 😊
In dentistry and medicine, we have a saying, "XYZ works in my hands." Or, "In my hands, I get good results doing XYZ." So, if sanding the insides of the bowls, works for you, the way you're doing it, then it is the correct way "in your hands." The results are beautiful!! Purple is one of my alma mater's colors. TCU, in Fort Worth. God bless!
Thank you very much!
I was mesmerized by the coring process. Your choice to make the color more opaque created a gorgeous contrast in each bowl. Overall, your channel is the most informative thing I've found on youtube. Bonus: It always provides beautiful results. Cheers!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!
Iv never seen such a stunning bowl it's amazing love the colour
Thanks 😊
My wife and I love your work keep up your videos thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Perfection…simply perfection. Bravo!
Thanks!
GREAT BOWLS MY FRIEND I LOVE THEM .AWESOME .LOVE YOUR STYLE FROM DOUG
Thanks Doug!
Jim Best 56 minutes of my day!!! Appreciate your time and effort you put into videos. Well worth the watch!! Boots and shovel to shorts and a/c LOL thanks Tim 👍🏻🇨🇦
Great! Thanks for watching! 🇨🇦🇨🇦
my grandpa makes bowls like this but only with wood aaand he's broken countless of them! Once I get passed his anti tech barrier I'm gonna show him these videos with resin because the resin is so cool
Thanks, he’ll love it!
these bowls are the best looking bowls I have ever seen.
Wow, thanks!
Nice “save” Jim. Always save a burl. The translucent I really liked. And you can’t beat cherry burl. Looking forward to a “very wormy bowl” this Friday.
It’s the wormiest, lol. Thanks
Absolutely stunning, that is a lot of work! All I need now is about 10k worth of equipment and tools and I should be able to do this! 😊
That's about right, lol. It's probably more like 15K tho, haha. Thanks
Brings me back to times in the workshop with pawpaw. Beautiful work my friend.
Thanks 🙏
I have no idea how I found this video but I'm happy I'm here
Awesome, welcome aboard!
What a magnificent project! Those colours went so well with the burl! Your gold resin was a very good match. Worthwhile on so many levels: A real pleasure to watch the emerging bowls. Well done!
Awesome, glad you enjoyed it!
Great channel, it’s good to finally see a Canadian wood turner in the KZhead universe. I really like how you use soapstone in some of your projects. Haven’t been able to find anyone else who does that. Thank you for all the content you provide us. You can only see so many reruns of MASH, so it’s nice to tune into your channel for a change.
Great! The Klondike Craftsman is another Canadian and Villy Woodturning too. Thanks for watching, it’s nice to have some Canadian support here!
@@SpragueWoodturning 👍🏻
I thought the same thing. I was just drifting through the wood turning side of KZhead and ended up on the other side of my own country haha. Neato
Another gem, Jim. I lol'd a little when you said, "I think my wife may want the little one". Everything I make on my lathe... "I wanna keep that" my wife says. Lol. She is way more artistic than I am and she make cosplay armor suits and mock video game character outfits that are amazing. She's won multiple trophies and medals at big "nerd" conventions. I can say that... I am one too, lol. I sell my turning and am trying to convince her to sell her costumes because of this keeps up there will be costumes and bowls everywhere in our house. We'll be on an episode of TLC's "Horders, Craft Edition".
Totally cool, thanks 🙏
Whole set from the big bowl to the candy dish came out gorgeous.
Thanks for watching!
Phenomenal project, Jim! The color and the burl are awesome. Thanks
Thanks 🙏
An excellent vid of what a talented artist with good tools can accomplish. Fascinating. Beautiful.
Thanks for watching!
Sssooo glad you’re incorporating purples and Fuscias in your work!!! I am SICK of green and blue!!! 😂🤣😂
Thanks, lol.
This color is absolutely gorgeous I enjoy watching purples
Thanks 😊
That purple mica is stunning! I love the opalescent in it and of course the burl is so beautiful. They turned out gorgeous!
Thank you so much!
Awesome set of bowls Jim. I could see from last week that you were going to make something from it. Great to see how to save a burl and make a amazing set of bowls. 👍🏼
It’s the only way to go with resin work, thanks
Boy when you was working on that bowl i was thinking it is working you very hard , but when you put that finish on it that purple pop very nicely VERY AWESOME
Thanks Glenn, got to show it who’s boss 💪🏻💪🏻 haha.
Stunning, simple stunning. Better then the wood stove. A great work of art x 4. The resin is a great color blend. The small looks like a heart in the bottom. Great work sir.🌿 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Thank you! Cheers!
Great job as usual Jim. I have been using the oneway system forca while. I am very impressed with the cutter. I definitely will be ordering one. The origianal cutter is such a pain to sharpen. Those bowls are amazing. Love it
This is a great solution! Thanks
There's a color out called black cherry another Pepsi Brown. They look black.... but with a little hint of light you can see the red and the brown. Absolutely gorgeous. I really like what you've done here. Can people customize their orders to have the color in the bowls coordinate with their kitchen?
Yes, I take custom orders. Thanks 😊
If your interested send me an email to spraguewoodturning@gmail.com
I love the accidental heart in the small one. So pretty!
Pretty cool eh, lol.
Shark anatomy to special education tools to wood turning. I honestly don't know how I got here but that was an AMAZING demonstration of skill. Bravo, sir. The wood of the largest bowl almost looked like a map in a lilac ocean. Those deserve to be in display cases. Absolutely beautiful.
Thank you so much! Welcome to my addiction, lol.
"Not going to be able to core this..." Surprise!
Indeed! Thanks
That little one has a heart in the middle very cool
That’s in my daughters hands now! Thanks 🙏
My favourite bowl is the smallest! I love the heart in it.
Thank you very much!
Such beautiful work. My grandfather use to work in wood and stone. He would make coffins and headstones in our small community. He also made furniture. It is so great that the arts are still around. I hope you are training others to do what you do.
I’m doing it right here. Thanks for watching
That core cutter is way cool. 💘 the purple 💜
For sure! Thanks 😊
My hats off to you sir. Coring dry cherry burl had to be a chore! Beautiful wood and work!
I’m actually surprised at how well it cut! Thanks 🙏
The small bowl looks like it has a heart in the base. So cute. I love the purple.
It sure does, thanks 😊
I quilt and love all kinds of crafts but THIS just like at my heart strings!
Thanks 😊
Beautiful bowls There is no way you could have shown this i an 10-15 minutes slot and done it justice. The coring had me glued to the screen with my heart in my mouth. I've seen other cores done but not with resin .
The risky thing with this coring is that the resins brittle unlike wood, so the piece at any time can break away from the blank and go flying. Since this is dry wood that makes it brittle and easy to crack if it hits the floor. Thanks
Omg. They are breathtaking. I have a daughter in law that would give her right eye and more for those.
Lol, thanks 😊
Babe, there is such a thing to hold the piece down. Spring curtain rods. They are sold in various sizes to fit the width of the window you're fitting. You screw one end into the other to shorten, unscrew to lengthen. Perfect for your pot! And they are cheap at most surplus stores like Big Lots or Ocean State Job Lot. Great idea‼️🇺🇲👍🏻
At first I wasn’t sure what you were talking about but I’m guessing you would use this across the inside of the pressure pot and have it resting on the top of the blank so it can’t lift up when the resin is poured in, is that correct? Thanks 😊
ILove how you talk threw your video !!!❤️. My God is there anything you can't do ??? BRAVO 👏👏👏👏👏. 👍. Thank you so much carry on. 🙋. 💕.
Thanks 😊
That is outstanding! The wife has ordered me to learn how to do this!
Lol, thanks 🙏
It looks like a bowl made out of a world globe!!!!! Beautiful!!!
Thank you very much!
When you started pouring that purple over the burl, I was apprehensive. I didn't think it would look good. But you knew better, and the bowls are beautiful. So much talent in the valley.
Thanks 🙏, I had some worries about the purple too, lol.
These bowls turned out beautiful. Lucky wife
She is, lol. Thanks
Wow, that purple popped beautifully 🙂
It’s pretty impressive, thanks 😊
