The artist plans the form. It doesn't matter if others think it's a waste, you are the artist, and let's let you use your skills the way you choose. Every piece you have made has been absolutely stunning.
Thank you very much!
I’m not a turner, however I too love Jim’s creative artistry and I’m proud to own and display four pieces of his artwork. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks Jim! I really do appreciate it!
Wow, you are sure lucky to own some of his work! I will have 1 someday, but 4??!!! That’s amazing and superb I’m sure!
You lucky guy
You're a perfectionist if that's a second. I think it's a beautiful piece and I wouldn't feel at all bashful about putting it on display.
It’s a curse! Lol. Thanks
I would gnaw off my left arm to have that piece! 🎉
@@stephanieparker1250 Same! And maybe a few other parts!!!
Really exceptional work Jim. As an artist, I totally get what you're saying about commissions and creative freedom. And yes it's hard to turn down those requests, but you're absolutely right that it will enable more people to have a crack at buying the work you showcase here. But more so, without any limits the work you will produce will continue to grow artistically - and the entirety of your channel will benefit from your creative journey. Thank you, this channel is incredible.
I really hated to do it, but I think it’s the right decision, thank you very much!
Yes, exactly that! I’d love a commission, but I understand the choice, and agree with it.
I think I'm in danger of running out of superlatives to describe the superb work you consistently produce. Thank you for sharing such an outstanding piece Jim 👏
Thanks so much!
Jim, what can I say other than you do some beautiful work! I started following you in July after my surgery (had to have my right leg amputated above the knee) while I was recuperating. I have a small woodworking shop that I build furniture in but I also have a couple of wood lathes that are my real passion. After watching you these last few months I have already purchased my vacuum chamber and pressure pot and the resin turning tools and I'm just about ready to give this resin turning a go. Last thing I need to do is order myself some Designer Epoxy! One other thing I've found out, being a one legged woodworker is not for the faint of heart, not to mention I'm having to relearn how to turn.... Oh well, what's life without a few challenges. Keep up the great work Jim and I look forward to seeing your next project.
@@ronaldfowler8394 Wow, best of luck to you! I hope you find your groove again on the lathe and allow your creative spark to continue your healing.
Jim I just want to say don't worry about the tiny bit this piece was off, I think from the comments below that anyone on here would be glad to have this piece as a part of their collection. You are to hard on yourself. Give some of us a chance to own a piece of your art work! lol
I just can’t do it, lol. Thanks
Jim, i love you work, and i wanted to say it's not just artists, I'm a caterer and you wouldn't believe what people want, but DON'T want to pay for! Lol! NEVER let people devalue you or your work.
Thanks so much!
This should be called the universe. The hyper shift has a fantastic effect combined with the black creating the cosmos. Love the form Jim as ever, fantastic job thank you.
Thanks for watching!
The hypershift really does kick this piece into a completely different dimension. Absolutely awesome... as always!
Glad you like it! Thanks
I haven't turned since junior high, so to watch you turn every week is truly like we are all your apprentices. Love how this piece looks, very unique!
Wow, thank you!
It looks like a galaxy of stars in a midnight sky. It is good to see that you value quality and reputation over profits and prefer to retain your integrity rather than sell something that you feel is not up to your standards. That being said, I am sure that there are many people who would jump on that piece if you were willing to sell it, "flaws" and all. It really is beautiful.
Yes, I took a 2K loss 🤦♂️. Thanks
A messy workshop is the sign of a busy man. This turning was a literally a black pearl gem!
Agreed, thanks.
Amazing isn’t a strong enough word. Spectacular that shift is beautiful. Once again you show what a creative mind you have.
Thank you so much 😀
OMG Jim! This being a “second” (in your opinion) this is really one of the most beautiful pieces yet! That green hyper-shift is STUNNING!
Wow, thank you!
When you said you were going to put that orange in, my mind started screaming “NOOOOOOOOOOOOO”. Glad you heard me!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ha ha! I did! Thanks 😊
The hyper shift in with the color is amazing. The hollow form is beautiful. You and your wife are the lucky ones that get to keep this beautiful piece.
Thanks 👍
The second really is a beautiful piece, it'll look great in your personal collection I'm sure, but I don't think most people would even think twice about wanting to buy it :)
Thank you very much!
I'm glad you left out the orange, too. Beautiful piece of art
Thank you!
Designer Epoxy. Totally love the shift! Never have turned, probably never will, but, hey, don't play basketball, and I still watch that.
Lol, thanks!
Every piece of Art no matter what it is.. has a flaw, from the beautiful Painting’s in an Art Hall, to a Turning of a piece of Wood to Crocheting a beautiful blanket. This is just stunning piece of Art love it
Thank you so much!
Ok. Gotta tell you that I love watching you work! Even though I know nothing about the technical side, I am fascinated with watching these beautiful pieces of art slowly take shape. Please keep me in your drawings to win a creation. Also, I suggest you sign the tops as well as the main piece because someday your work will be in museums, if it isn’t already. And when it ends up on the Antiques Road Show, having both pieces signed will make it easier to appraise. 🥰
Well that certainly would be awesome, lol. Thank you very much!
That hyper shift with the black ... chef's kiss! The whole combination of wood, colour, and shape, has me absolutely loving this one! Beautiful work, Jim, as always!
Thanks very much!
Another great hollow form. Every week you prove over and over that you are one of the best woodturners on social media. Designer Epoxy
Wow, thank you!
As one of the non-wood turners who love watching your channel, I really appreciate it when you explain the various terminology you use as well as your methodology. Thank you for another great work of art.
Glad you like them! Thanks
I have named this the Star Wars piece. It looks like space to me. Beautiful.
Thanks so much!
Oh I like this one a lot! It reminds me of a Herrodian cooking pot and how a museum will have fractured redware repaired with plain black material to hold it together and show its full shape.
Thanks so much!
I don't care if you call it a second, it's just breath taking.
Thanks so much!
It might be a second in your eyes but that is beautiful. One of a kind never duplicated. the wood grain is stunning. The resin stunning. ❤😊
Thank you! Cheers!
Every week, you keep delivering! Each piece you create raises the bar on “Jim’s Top 5”!!!
Wow, thank you!
9:59 pm CST Nov 12, 2023. Not a turner, but an avid fan for well over a year. Love your expertise and your creativity and design sense. Also greatly appreciate your honest and informative commentary.
Thank you very much!
This piece is absolutely breathtaking. Thank you for letting us be a part of the process. Designer Epoxy.
Thank you too!
Have a great weekend yourself, Jim. I certainly wouldn’t call that beautiful hyper shift space ship hurtling through the starry blackness of space a second! 🌞
Thank you very much!
Love the Hyper Shift. Even though you call this bowl a "second," I would be proud to display this in my home. You do amazing work and do it so effortlessly. My wife and I watch you weekly now. She and I both agree that we love the fact that even if you have a "boo boo" you never miss a beat. You don't hide it, but show how you come up with a creative work around. Love that you keep it real. Keep up the awesome work!
Thank you so much!
I completely understand what you mean! I don't always enjoy sharing my art that I'm not happy with. But most looking at it thinks it's beautiful. Remember we are out own biggest critics 😊
So true! Thanks
That Hypershift is just out of this World. Even though you say it's a second I think it's a number One. Great job. Don't be so hard on yourself. It's beautiful. 👍👍👍👍😎
Thanks!
I didn't think I was gonna like the black , but turns out its gorgeous , that hype shift is amazing
Thank you very much!
Not adding the orange was definitely the right call. This reminds me of the night sky far, far from any city lights. I am excited to see more of the Hyper Shift colors in the future.
Me too, lol. Thank you very much!
Looks like a beautiful view of space, with galaxies and stars sparkling in the night. Just beautiful!
Thank you very much!
Stunning!!! The 'space ship' type shape with the galaxy looking resin - just WOW!
Thank you so much!
"Hyper" cool piece. Does resemble a spaceship so the black with hypershift resembling stars in a galaxy is sympatico. Excellent work as always.
Thanks so much!
Designer Epoxy is the bomb! Your projects are always beautiful and desirable...even the seconds!!!
Thank you very much!
The best artist's representation of a Borealis I've ever seen. Gorgeous!!
Thank you very much!
Designer Epoxy if you hadn't said anything about that being a second no one would have ever known it such a Beautiful piece Love it
Thank you very much!
That bowl was so beautiful Jim. The hyper shift makes it come alive!
Thank you very much!
My favorite piece! The black Designer Epoxy with that wood is so beautiful!
Thanks so much!
I especially love the way that the shape of this piece is evolving.
Thank you very much!
When I was in college getting a design degree, one of the first things I was taught in my very first design class was that Artists create to release their own creativity and Designers create for other people. You have definitely become an Artist since I have been watching your channel. The fact that you prefer to decide shapes and forms based on you materials as you are working is also proof that you are now an Artist. There is a quote from Michelangelo: "The sculpture is already complete within the marble block, before I start my work. It is already there, I just have to chisel away the superfluous material." Though your materials are different, you do the same. You are also a very adept teacher because of how you explain things, which is not common in Artists. They often can't explain their process in a way that others can understand. You are always willing to answer questions. Choosing to not take on a single apprentice suits your style and I like that you called all of us your apprentices. PS-Your determination of this piece as being a second is also a sign of an Artist. An Artist in never happy with a piece that does not meet their personal standard. Designer Epoxy
Thank you for your kind comments! The resin has allowed me to be so creative and pushed me in the direction of a true artist. Thanks again!
Im not a turner but every week i warch your videos!! I absolutely love this piece 😍 Great craftsmanship as always Jim
Awesome! Thank you!
Well everyone has “one of those days “. Still ….an excellent piece. Designer Epoxy
So true! Thanks
The shape is totally new and different and is really neat. The sparkles of the resin is so colorful.
Thank you very much!
Mesmerizing! I could stare at this one for hours! Gorgeous!
Wow, thank you!
Amazing hypershift! An idea for you; do separate pours of the different colours of hypershift in black, so that they swirl together like a nebula!
Thanks for the idea!
Jim wow, this has to be one of my favorites!!! Wowwww!!!! I'm taken back by this piece Jim, it's ridiculously beautiful!!!
Thank you very much!
Love that hyper shift. Brings a new element to the epoxy.
Totally. Thanks
Oh wow! That colour and colour shift is stunning! Very nice indeed!!!
Thank you very much!
The very first second of the video: "Jim's holding a brain!" Really, given that this was a "Halloween" project, I was game! But it was just a burl. BUT given how much it moved during the turning, it did appear to have a mind all it's own!! I'm calling this piece "Lost in Space" because at one point the turning looked like the Jupiter 5 ship from the show, and then that amazing hypershift pigment wound up looking like something captured by the Hubble Telescope. It was just beautiful!
Thank you very much!
Follow your artist heart! A real beauty she is! You should name this The Joan Jett Bowl. It fits perfectly! I would buy this and never complain because I wouldnt know the difference. Lol.
Love the name! Thanks
Designer Epoxy Edit: the thumb nail looks great.
Thanks very much!
Designer epoxy , I believe this piece was beautiful. The hyper shift pigment was so gorgeous. Someday I’m going to on one of your pieces
Thank you very much!
Only one word I can think about for this piece, FANTABULUS😮❤🙏😊🤗❤🇨🇦
Thanks so much!
When I saw that you were going to use black on this project, I got excited. I have seen you do some amazing stuff with color and sparkle mixes. I was not disappointed. This hollow form is just awesome. Well done. Keep experimenting. The shape just as awesome as the color. Thanks for sharing your work.
There will at some point be a redo on this project, I’ve got unfinished business. Lol. Thanks
What a great project. I know you were disappointed with the final product but you are right...no one would ever know! I love the little upward curl of epoxy into the burl...it reminds me of a scene from Nightmare Before Christmas. Exceptional work again Jim!
Thanks so much!
@SpragueWoodturning I think I'm going to buy my first round of designer epoxy. I know you have said you don't need a pressure pot (I tried to make one but I think it doesn't hold the air well enough and I have a wimpy compressor) - I really want to do a small pine cone bowl (I have a midi size lathe) - do you recommend deep cast for that? Just wondering your opinion? Thanks! 😀
I just can’t get enough of your creative artistry ! Magnificent works Jim !
Wow! Thanks very much! 😀
41:52 I can hear how disappointed you are about this piece, but there's no way you can call it a "second"! I would happily buy that from you any day!! You are clearly a perfectionist (just look at all your other work), but you shouldn't be so hard on yourself. This is a beautiful piece of art, and remember "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and I behold it as beautiful!! LOL!!
Funny you mention this, my wife said the same thing when we were reviewing the video before uploading. She could tell I was angry, lol. Thanks!
I sometimes amuse myself coming up with names for your pieces, and I'm calling this one 'Liquid Smoke' in my head. Love the hypershift!
I like it! Thanks
Beautiful piece once again. My wife gets after me for being my own worst critic on my work. Designer Epoxy.
I’m the same! Thanks!
Everything you do is awesome! This hypershift is beautiful Jim! It looks like a whole bunch of stars. Again, if I could afford these, I would be knee-deep in your work! Love what you do!
Wow, thank you!
Jim, this is a beautiful piece with a wonderful profile. We don’t let a week go by without catching your channel. We love it all and I would like to see a barely tinted piece every now and then. You’ve done that before. Thanks!
Awesome! Thank you!
Such a nice-looking bowl. The colours are fantastic. Totally understand why you wouldn't want it being sold. It's your reputation that is being placed out there. I just got off the phone to Ken at Branches to Bowls. I have just ordered a few tools from him. Thank you for the discount using your name. He was an absolute pleasure to deal with. Congrats on hitting 105 k subscribers. Totally well deserved. The shape of this week's bowl is one that i really like. i think that the burl and the colour of resin work better than if it was a lidded bowl. As always thanks for sharing your skills and tips with us. Cheers Bruce
Thank you very much! I really appreciate it!
Hey Jim, another great piece. The thumbnail really highlights the hyper shift. The amount of burl in the piece is a great balance. Stay well. Thank you as always. Designer Epoxy
Glad you enjoyed it, Thanks so much!
Love the hyper-shift. The black with the burl looks amazing! It's cool to see the "silly string resin". Must take quite a while to clean it all up. Beautiful piece for your collection. Thanks for sharing.
It’s certainly messy. Thanks
Another beautiful piece of art. It is good to see a professional have mistakes.
Thank you! Cheers!
Yep, Mr Excited, this is a spaceship flying among the stars and even a nebula. And there is even a black hole in the burl. Excellent sir. Premium piece. Absolutely love it. Second or not it's a winner.
Thanks so much!
I didn't know black*~ish can be so beautiful. Great Piece
Thank you! Cheers!
Absolutely love the hyper shift in the black, would love to see a royal blue with silver!
Absolutely! Thanks
Oh yes... congratulations on 105k Jim you deserve it...I am enjoying watching your fanbase growing weekly.
Thank you very much!
Another absolute stunner Jim, the decision to withhold the orange resin was the perfect choice and although this piece has given you some trouble, I, along with many others, yelled at our screens in disappointment that this piece wasn’t up for sale 😄. Your integrity regarding quality is another testament to your brand, along with your creativity, artistry and craftsmanship. See you again next week!
Thank you very much! Nice to hear!
Jim, my retail bag idea is, " It's Thursday... so there's no finish on it". 😂 Or "Kinsugi Method" on a hat. Then when folks ask what it means one can say, " Well, there's a guy named Jim in Canada who turns wood and resin and.... ".
Lol. Thank you very much!
Oh no only another turner would ever notice!! 😢😢 That hyper shift …. Wow just love that Designer Epoxy Finished my first two !!
That is awesome! Thanks!
Beautiful Jim I caught this week half way thru. I am still in rehab since my stroke but I watch every weeks production some time on fridays. Gorgeous, gorgeous work. Designer Epoxy
Thank you very much!
OMG! So beautiful!! You never disappoint! SECOND? It would be a fabulous giveaway in a drawing or as a raffle in a fund raiser. You are way too hard on yourself! It looks perfect.
Thank you so much!
I am not a woodturner ,but i love Your videos and watch them every friday
Awesome, thanks
Stunning piece, Jim. The finished piece puts me in mind of the Aurora Borealis.
It does! Thanks so much!
So well done Jim, love the black with the Hypershift. Keep up the great work
Thank you very much!
Jim, as usual your use of Designer Epoxy with the Hypershift knocked another one out of the park, great job!
Thank you very much!
Not sure how I missed this when it came out, but WOW!
Thank you very much!
Not only did the initial shape look like a spaceship, the black with the hyper shift looks like you're looking at the stars on a clear brisk cold night. I think this is my favorite piece in a video so far. With a bit of the aurora going.
Thank you very much!
Phenomenal work Jim! I am always in awe of you and your talent!
Wow, thank you!
Hey, it’s Friday and we get a hyper shift. Love some hollow form action.
Thank you very much!
Designer epoxy and your skills are by far , outstanding sir
Thank you very much!
this looks great as always. the designer epoxy with the hyper shift looks really cool in this piece.
Thank you! Cheers!
WOW so pretty, the hyper shift is AWESOME. Love the shape. Great video thanks for sharing your knowledge with the community.😘😘💋💋
Thank you so much!
Amazing work! The hyper shift is amazing with the black. Almost looks like a galaxy.
Agreed. Thanks
OMG! That looks like liquid Black Magic! I love it! A great piece Jim! I think it's perfect. 🖤 A wicked charcuterie board would be cool with that funky new silicon mold with deep cracks to use the new liquid gold pigment.
Yup…stay tuned! Thanks!
Wow, I really like the shape and that Hyper Shift pigment from Designer Epoxy is very very cool. Can’t wait to see the new ones in a project.
Thank you! Cheers!
Good morning. Tea and toast at the ready.😁
Hope you enjoy! Thanks
Wow, just wow! I bet it would look amazing with a midnight blue base too. 💙
I think so too! Thanks
It is pretty and neat, how the hypershift gives a grain to the epoxy; beautiful as always Jim.
It does! Thanks
Absolutely Stunningly Gorgeous Jim ❤ I see some Gorgeous Northern lights with the hypershift. Thank you again for sharing your wonderful talent and videos with us all. Take great care and keep creating and smiling ❤
Thank you very much!
That's what I said WOW!!!! Nice project My Friend from the north.
Thank you! Cheers!
