Eagle Rips Lizard's Eyes Apart As it Tries to Escape
Even though martial eagles are the largest of the eagles in Africa, it doesn’t make catching one of Africa’s largest lizards any easier.

On one of his safaris, he captured this incredible sighting of Africa’s largest eagle taking down and feasting on a monitor lizard. LatestSightings.com caught up with Rodney as he shared the events of that day with us:
“I was on a safari drive and went up to Ngotso, near Satara camp, to look for the Ngotso lion pride and the resident leopards there. We found one of the Ngotso male lions but he was alone, so we sat there watching for a while. Trevor, one of my friends who was also on the same sighting, spotted a Martial eagle that had just caught a monitor lizard!”
“It was incredible, I’ve never seen anything like this before! Two great sightings in one place, but all the cameras were pointing at the eagle, and no longer toward the lion. After watching the struggle for about an hour, I still needed to serve my guests breakfast, so I took them to their favorite spot, Timbavati Picnic Spot.”
“We came back from breakfast and noticed that the eagle was still busy trying to take out the lizard! In total, it took about 5 hours for the lizard to finally give up and so the eagle finally succeeded with the catch, which was definitely something to witness. We then left while the eagle fed on the well-deserved meal.”
“The bush is full of surprises, you never know when you will find a unique sighting and just when you think you’ve seen it all, something new comes along to surprise you once more, so be present and enjoy while nature takes its course!”

I had an eye injury a few months back where a tiny sliver of metal ended up in my eye. Your eyes are extremely sensitive. Is there any other part of your body where a tiny bit of sand can cause you to stop everything? Your eyes are like that. My whole head was in pain from just a sliver of metal. The pain level this lizard went through as it was being killed must have been incomprehensible.
Totally goes to show how sheltered we are in life... The lizard went out honorably against a greater foe... Many will go out this way in life but few will be remembered as this unfortunate lizard
Different nervous system.
How you doing now?
@@ConalRF lizards and humans nervous systems are almost identical
How’s it now
lol. When that lizard slaps the eagles face with his tail that eagles look was priceless. He was “oh no you didn’t just slap me”
Imagine being killed by something that's barely trying. LMAO
*Most* predators “barely” try because they usually target significantly weaker animals lol
Rhys D I actually do.... the vast majority of predators target the old, sick & weak specifically because it’s less dangerous and requires less energy for them.
Rhys D First “barely” is a relative term. That being said prey animals don’t have that luxury of “another day” if they fuck up. If a Lion screws up, guess what? there’s several other million impala it can choose from. If Impala fucks up *once* it’s game over which is why an animal running/fighting for its life goes to such lengths to survive. So yes, outside of outliers or extreme circumstances like starvation... I stand by my statement.
@@adonislimes6156 you still sound dumb bc that’s one example of a predator and prey scenario when there’s billions of species and even more interactions between them
@@michaelurgesenior3641 I’m well aware that there’s billions of interactions and. few million species of animal. I’m also well aware that virtually all predators are *highly* efficient, opportunistic and universally target the old, sick & weak because it’s once again easier on *them*. If the majority predators targeted the most difficult prey there’d be a whole lot of dead predators and the ecosystem would have long collapsed. So no, I don’t sound dumb.
Yeah getting killed by an eagle is one of the slowest deaths in the animal kingdom. 🦅🦅 (year later edit) I see a lot of y'all missed my point about it being "one of" not "the slowest death" in the animal kingdom. 🤦🏾♂️😅
Not true; only as in this case that is a very big prey, moreover a prey of slow metabolism.
@@lamaspacos mm thanks but in general an eagle, among other birds of prey, are well known for consuming the eyes as one of the first things. Unless it's killing a small rodent or rabbit size prey, it is indeed a slow somewhat painful death one way or another
lol try getting eaten alive by hyenas/wild dogs
check out getting eaten alive by a Komodo dragon 😣
@@yoginc yeah but being ripped apart by that beak is basically like getting bits of flesh ripped off bit by bit by a average sized pair of razor sharp scissors, at least the pack of W dogs or hyenas are doing more damage to be at least ripped apart, with birds of prey, their victims have to lie there and get slowly picked at by a sharp ass beak no bigger than my thumb. The wild dog or hyenas would definitely be a more violent death, but which one would u rather(hypothetically) the painful violent death that may be over in about 30 minutes, or have a huge razor bird come rip small bits of flesh from your neck and head area until their full, come back at a later time and keep feeding off of you until there's nothing left which is the worse way to go?
When you see things like this you really start to think that maybe we're living in hell. Where creatures eat each other alive and humans have just managed to escape "hell" on earth by way of technology but are constantly fighting hell (rapists, murderers, viruses, pathogens etc)
Heaven is being with god...Being here is just like hell
Underrated comment....
@@kshitijagr without God, good and bad would be all subjective!!
@@kshitijagr What the fuck are you talking about? you think all this just happened? like a book that creates itself? even nothing is something.
Dude, I was just imagining like this. Maybe creatures weren't like this when God first created them. I mean, Noah had a whole bunch of animals in his ark so what could that mean.
Scary, beautiful, majestic, fearsome. Brilliant!!
goddamn. i love this channel 😅

This is called RPR(Ripper) -Raptor Prey Restraint. Holding down prey with talons while flapping wings for balance. Potentially one of the predatory strategies used by extinct dromaeosaurs like Velociraptor and Deinonychus being demonstrated by a living cousin.
Look on the bright side. Now the crocodile hatchlings are safe from the lizard! But not from the eagle.

Eagle: This is a nice meal Lizard: Well... this sucks
Cringe.
What a savage bird of prey!! Popping those cherries out 🍒 .. now even if the lizard wants to escape it cannot see! Lizards have very good eyesight and some can see colors better than humans!!
I love lizards and I didn't watch to see it's death but those beautiful eagles and every other animal on our planet Earth has to eat, so good job Mr raptor 👍
Where is the rest of the video? You didn't set up a tri pod camera to film the entire thing? A time-lapse of this would be amazing
Aren't eagles the most epic apex predator given its size and weight? 1)Flying is way too much OP 2)Their eyes are some of the most powerful in animal kingdom Dinosaurs made sure their descendants were OP
I think Zoo tier did a video on the bird kingdoms and put them in S tier
Humans are way more op. Human babies are smarter than most adult animals in other species. They can adapt and create to suit their needs. They can basically use any power an animal has with the use of intelligence and creativity. Nerf humans pls

Derpy? Eagles are beautiful
best channel👍👍👍
That's just the softest and easiest way through it's lizard skin. Also the lizard wants to escape but he's not going no where know!!! I wonder if the eagle knew to blind the lizard to prevent the lizard from going anywhere?
Now i am satisfied...this monitor ate possum...good job eagle
eagle's really won the re-incarnation lottery
Incrível 👍🏻
Never got why people come here to watch animals be animals just to dislike it. These PETA dweebs trying to change nature with dislikes. 😂
Can we abuse animals cause it's natural. We animals to right. Any thing an animal do is natural?

OMG i nevr seen such a huge lizard in my life . i know only tiny lizard leaning on the wall of my bed room lol animals are so smart . i love eagles ..
That's a rock monitor and it belongs to the Varanidae family, the lineage of the largest lizards. The lizards you're referring to are gekkonids, characterised by flat toes spcialised for adhesion to surfaces.
How long is lizard? Can anybody tell
Straight savage! 😳
The more you struggle the more it gets painful 😣

Sometimes predators are inefficient. Especially a bird stuck on the ground.
This is plenty efficent. This is called RPR or Ripper-Raptor Prey Restraint. Holding down prey with talons while flapping wings for balance. Potentially one of the predatory strategies used by extinct dromaeosaurs like Velociraptor and Deinonychus being demonstrated by a living cousin.
