A buffalo with a large hernia was separated from the herd and was no match for a pack of hungry wild dogs.

This sighting was captured by 42-year-old, Wildlife Safari Guide, Sebastian Sande Sakala, while on a game drive with guests in the Lower Zambezi National Park.
Sebastian tells LatestSightings.com the story: “We had gone out on a game drive and were tracking wild dogs for over an hour when we finally saw 2 dogs stand up. They were both looking in the same direction and we knew they had their eyes locked on their next meal.”
“The wild dogs chased the herd and were able to separate a female buffalo with a large hernia (caused by complications with giving birth) from the herd. The wild dogs started attacking the buffalo until they brought it down. They went back to the den that evening to rest and care for the young and were back in the morning to finish off their hard-earned kill.”
“The wild dogs were joined by vultures and hyenas and by the afternoon there was nothing left of the kill.”
“I was very excited to see a kill and it was one of the most memorable sightings I have ever seen!”
“Don’t forget that we are in their natural environment, and it is important to give the animals space when they are hunting.”

Well put. The title is misleading and it that's that's the kind of misinformation we're force to swallow on a daily basic. Anyway... The way I see or... That's one very kind buffalo. It could start charging and killed a few, but it didn't. I can't imagine how regular cow wound feel in the slaughter house.
That wasn't his belly that was a BOIL / abscess that overgrown - he was likely already in huge amounts of pain before they showed up and cornered him because of the pain from the boil, they released the fluid but likely infected themselves in the process. Be happy you have a life that's at peace and not in consent fear of living like these majestic creatures.
The strong immune system of the hyenas most likely neutralized any diseases from that abscess.

It is so very difficult to watch an animal be eaten alive. Its one thing when the animal is killed and then they start eating it, but to just see it stand there with no way to escape and they are attacking its rear end has to be so painful. It's pretty gross that the person filming this was laughing so hard while watching a poor creature suffer so. I recognize that it is the natural order of things, and I'm not suggesting they should have interfered in any way at all, but laughing while watching such tortuous pain demonstrates almost sociopathic levels of a lack of empathy. For the flesh to die, it always needs to feel pain. That is why most deaths are painful. We may have exceptions, even though I don't know the full extent of those exceptions, but majority are not painless. Even Jesus Christ on the cross, he felt pain, but his pain was temporary. By God's power he was raised from the dead. He can no longer feel pain because he can never die again.
It's almost like the comparison between life in prison or death by lethal injection. Which would you choose?

Sometimes I watch these videos and I am amazed how stoic these animals are. They are actually being eaten alive, yet you rarely hear a sound come from them. We know that they feel the pain from every bite, from every piece of flesh ripped away. But we almost never hear a sound from them. Sometimes a Cape Buffalo will do that low pitched moo sound. I saw a video of a pregnant zebra being eaten by a pack of hyenas. The zebra never made a sound, just stared stoically at the video camera. Even as the fetus was ripped from her belly. There is no human being alive who could go out silently like that. I know that all creatures need to eat and one has to die if another one is to eat. These videos are very sobering. We humans should be thankful that we have created a merciful (in most cases) society. If one is sick or disabled, we care for them. They are not left to the wolves who would rip them apart to eat.
I am grateful for the footage. I wish the observers would have been more solemn instead of laughing at this scene. It's one thing to be curious and acknowledge that life is messy and brutal, but it's another to relish in the agony another life is going through.

Long version: The axe wasn't sharp enough to bite, the tree trunk was smooth from recent rain, I chopped at too much of an angle, and my mind was somewhere else. The axe blade bounced of the wood and speedily continued to my leg, close to the knee. Imagine holding a metal stick and hitting something else made of metal as hard as you can. Numbness and vibration in the skeleton, but no pain. A bit of blood streamed down. My pants now got a hole. I packed up my stuff and started walking home, the normal procedure. A bit disappointed that I had to end my camp early. I was looking forward to that warm meal. When I hiked back down to the road, and my bicycle, I realised I couldn't effectively pedal because the flesh opened and closed with every stroke. I walked with small steps, which mitigated the blood stream. After 1 and half hour, a nurse stops her car. Must've been an angel. After a bit of stern council, I agreed that she could drive me to the hospital. The morphine lasted 3-4 hours. After that the pain was distinct. The axident might sound bad, but I didn't hit any major blood vessels so it was, at most, an inconvenience. Keep your axe sharp and your mind in the here and now. ;)

Almost all African animals fear (groups of) humans because we were the apex predators. We didn’t have to deal with the constant fear of being eaten like that. We only had to live with the constant fight to hunt and gather enough food, and make sure we didn’t get fatal infections, especially young children.

They clearly watch nature all the time and are desensitized to this sort of thing. It's not like they lacked sympathy entirely. You can always mute if you're too sensitive or find it off putting but if you do, you probably shouldn't watch this sort of thing.

I listened carefully to that too and I agree. The woman especially was feeling for it. It's very unfortunate timing the laughing. I think the guide was telling a distracting humorous story. I just wish it had been quicker it went on too long. Hunting dogs in Africa got to eat. I wish it had fallen earlier and been killed quicker. Bless it's heart. You can hear them at the end I think also being glad it's over for the beastie. If I were with people who really were laughing or enjoying that I'd get away from them!

The more damaging, and the quicker the better (since its easier to go into shock then) It's why we lose consciousness during car accidents or even falls. Living things hate and avoid pain, but after a certain threshold, the body just gives in and makes it painless.

I’ve seen this often the hyenas eating from the ass out. Starting there is just like…so disturbing. That’s like probably the most painful and long lasting way to go. Maybe there’s something we don’t know like they evolved to develop a taste for the adrenaline of eating their prey alive. I know in China they torture some animals before they cook them and claim it tastes better. We look at them as cruel(which it is) but maybe there really is a reason, however messed up.

I think this is the same pack that hunted that other adult buffalo on this channel like a month ago. They probably specialise in hunting buffalo adults just like in the late 20th century there was a pack called the genghis pack that specialised in killing zebra adults. Basically when there are enough experienced adults in a pack the sky is literally the limit. They are the best hunters on this planet
