Nic Nel, a professional guide at @MalaMalaGameReserve captured the intense battle on camera. Nic shared his story and footage of the sighting with LatestSightings.com.
“We spent the morning tracking a resident lion pride that calls this area home. We were lucky enough to find some of them quite early in the drive; three of the females, to be precise. They were all quite hungry and seemingly on the hunt. They stumbled upon a decent-sized bachelor herd of buffalo and the battle began!
“After carefully assessing the situation, the lions targeted one of the weaker bulls. They charged in at full speed and were able to single him out. The tactic was clear: they were not going for the kill because taking down a big buffalo bull is no easy ask for 3 lionesses. So they decided to rather wear him down before they made the final blow.”
“The buffalo bull was not going down without a fight. He stood strong and tried to swing his horns fast enough to catch one of the lionesses off guard. The lionesses, on the other hand, were too smart; one of them managed to get onto his back and began biting at his spine while the other two took to his legs and hoping to snap his tendons and cripple him.”
“The bull let out multiple distress calls, which caused his family to instantly respond. They rallied together, forming a line, and charging in at the lions. With powerful horns and brute strength, they pushed the lionesses away for a moment.”
“The fight went back and forth for hours. The buffaloes would keep running in trying to save their brother, and the lionesses would just move off for a moment and instantly come back. At one point, they even got the big buffalo on his back and tried eating him alive, but like true family, the other buffaloes refused to give up and rushed in again.”
"However, things took a turn, the buffalo herd paused, sensing a shift. The buffalo sank to the ground, letting out a final, sorrowful bellow before falling silent. The lionesses had succeeded; their constant biting had broken his back and severed the tendons in his legs. With no chance of recovery, he and the other buffaloes understood the outcome."
“The exhausted lions lay next to the immobile buffalo, who was amazingly still alive albeit not for long. As tired as lions were, they quickly called their little ones, and out of nowhere appeared seven cute cubs, all excited for a good meal. They immediately began biting and taking nibbles out of the buffalo's back, while their moms watched on and caught their breath.”

The leg injury meant all the attempts were going to be futile, eventually. But what a rescue effort it was.
Yes, the leg injury that the lions purposefully inflicted for those stated reasons. 👍🏻
It is difficult to escape this mastery level pride
The lions clinging to the buffalo's back like blood-sucking mosquitoes must be quite annoying indeed.
They even try it with elephants
I hate cats family
The Title of your video, is incorrect. The Buffalo was eventually killed, not saved"
The title never stated that it wasn't killed.
I agree - it makes you believe he escaped. But those guys in this channel, many times they are meshing their titles.
True. Clearly, the _implication_ of the title is that the buffalo was ultimately saved, i.e. didn't die.
You are the one not understanding. "It was saved several times"
@@magdaline9627 Sad, SO Sad"
Imagine if his buddy was just a little smarter and didn't keep running away after he scared them off his friend.
They never want to help at the risk of themselves being caught up. They aren't that charitable. That's why they only help when lions have already caught one and the risk is minimal.
if there’s one thing i’m learning from watching these safari vids it’s that there’s a reason we’re at the top of the food chain if you get what i’m saying lad
Lol they're animals. They can only eat and poop. Can't expect logical thinking from animals. It ain't Disney's lion king😂@@sean2552
So they can bite his leg and he can't run lol?
The life is hard in nature. You need to save energy. His buddy looks in bad shape too. So it's was okay to try to fight but staying close to the danger is not a great idea
I know they say is nature, but it breaks my heart seeing this 💔
Me too. It happens literally every day, but is still a fricked up part of our existence.
I feel the same😢
It's sad but if they all escaped, there would be no more lions.
nature is made from hell
Sad though it may be, it is far more important that the predators eat well and prosper because without predation, mammalian evolution will no longer include the higher brain functions that set predators apart from grazers.
The buffalos cries must sound like the dinner bell to the lions. They must love that sound!
Poor Buffalo, fought till end
Как мне нравится этот живой звук , без всякой музыки , спасибо вам за работу.
They never have music
My father in law raised buffalo in Brazil, not the most intelligent animals
They weren’t raised within the grounds of illegally deforested amazon, were they? 🤔🤔
It would have been an Asian water buffalo, not one of these African Cape buffalo. Water buffalo have been domesticated for 6000+ years.
The other buffalo just made it more painful death by prolonging the death. Made the few lioness more exhausted so they took even longer to eat it alive.
Lions never eat their prey alive. Never!
It's difficult to survive when you're continuously getting pelted by lioness. That buffalo was in an untenable situation.
Untenable, that's a good word, are you the inventor of scrabble?
The determination of those lionesses is amazing. Awesome footage
Spotted hyenas or hunting dogs can catch, kill, eat & be gone within minutes, and people think that is cruel!
Yea when lions actually do hunt and don’t steal the kills of other predators they typically eat much more slowly than wild dogs or hyenas making it a slower death
The one reason is the bite force hyenas have strong bite force as compared to lions so lions have to spend a lot of time in a kill
I was in One of Kenya’s safari lodges in December of 1979 . Around midnight we got knock on the doors by hotel staff that there were lions outside . What we saw just blew our minds . A herd of buffalos was chasing 3-4 lionesses . The lions were able to climb on a high rock , buffalos surrounded them and were there for an hour . They were very organized , other buffalos would come from behind and replace the ones in the front . Eventually the buffalos left and lions were able to get down and walk away . Unfortunately the movie that we took was sent to be processed and we never got it back . They said they lost it . There was a hunter among the hotel guests who said that the lions were not hungry otherwise the situation would be reversed .
Imagine if McDonald’s was free you just had to be strong enough to open the wrapping paper
Gotta work for it one way or another. 🤣
😂😂😂
😂😂
Those lioness never gave up. They got their reward after a very long struggle and it seems like there were numerous attemps. Credit to the effort of the rescue attempt, but they should have been more if it was to change the outcome. And credits to the lioness they can feed their pride and their cubs after this battle
Are you providing criticism to the Buffalo as if they will somehow hear you and change their tactics?
I mean i get why the other buffalo is scared, what if it also ends up getting caught? Then they both will end up dying
That's a massive bull... kudos to the lions, very brave indeed
Old
Eating it alive after hours of torment.. and people think the spotted hyenas are brutal..
Yeah hyenas are brutal ugly looking cackling mfz 😅 They have a stronger bite force but they don't suffocate their prey like lions do so I'd say lions are 10 times less brutal in that sense. I think in this instance the lionesses were exhausted after hours of trying to take down that buffalo and had no strength left to suffocate the poor buffalo. They tend to suffocate and kill their prey to eliminate anything that could be a threat towards their cubs when they feed.
@daginezho1637 Hyenas are not ugly mfz. They are amazing & far more interesting than any cat. They are also highly intelligent, up there with elephants, octopus & bees etc. Very smart animals. They'd have finished this buffalo & left by the time these lions pulled it down. Lions are always eating their prey alive, too. It can take over 30+ minutes to fully suffocate a zebra, wildebeest or buffalo etc. Meanwhile the back end of it is being scoffed into by the rest of the pride. Lions are no better than hyenas or hunting dogs when it comes to their eating habits, just slower cos they gotta chew pieces of flesh off as they can't rip big chunks off like the hyenas or dogs, which have serious jaw power, indeed.
@@NannupTigerwell hyenas are just hella ugly and there's nothing you can do about it 😂 at the end of the day they are just lions favorite victims, I get your frustration as an hyena fan hh. in more people dislike them for being damn scavengers and food stealers while studies have stated that lions steal food from hyenas very more 🤣🤣🤣✋🏾 ain't nobody like your buddies and they are damn disgraceful. and you must be sick if you trynna compare the way they rip their preys bodies ass first, to the way these majestic lions suffocate preys in minutes.
What a brave baffalo. It fought till the end . salutation
Wow they ate him alive with the cubs. Looks like an old buffalo male but still dangerous. They was afraid to attack him at the throat and prefer stay concentrate on his back. It's hard for lioness to kill a buffalo without help of a male lion. They spent lot of energy.
His homeboys are like "Come on man timmy, we already just done bailed you out already"
Timmy ,you sound like a flaming fruitcake .😅
The lion pride always knows how to attack when the buffalo turns and runs away. so smart
The buffalo weren’t domesticated, merely lived on a very large ranch
Was his leg hurt from the beginning or did he not really stand a chance regardless?
If nothing else, the lions are persistent as all get-out.
All animals are persistent about the food required for them to live.
@@SaadKhan-xn1xv exactly, if every wild animal just gave up every time something was a little bit hard they wouldn't survive very long.
"I could've danced all night" "I could've danced all night"
Part 1: The buffalo's strength was so strong that he was pinned down by three lions but still did not fall
He is already tired and can’t run far, his buddy tried many times to help him. The lions are young, that is why it took longer to take him down. If there was a lion king, his misery would have been shorter.
Not tired, he kept the lions.
Tough cookie that buffalo to spring up when the lions thought it was over! The lions were petrified of what was maybe the herd Bull so why did it keep backing off?
They're both bulls. Just the other would come to chase off any lions, leave once either he felt it was over, or realized nothing he'd do would really help. He can only pull so much effort for a wounded fellow bull when he has his own self preservation mixed in, as well as any other motives going on, such as keeping with the herd, watching over any ladies, or so on. It's not maliciousness, just that he can only help so much before giving up.
Fs I clicked this thinking the buffalo got saved! I know it’s nature but there’s no way I could stand back and film this and not try to help! And please tell me I didn’t hear someone at the end saying, ‘O so cute!! Wtf!! 😭😭😭💔
The "Ooh soo cute" at the end would have been for the cub that appeared not the lions doing what they naturally do.
Yea I got that, but how could you ignore what was going on to say, ‘O soo cute!’ about a cub! I’d of been too distraught to see any beauty in anything at that point 💔
Me too. They could have helped. Disgusting.
Roblox Wild Savanna in a nutshell. Lion players who can’t take an L and buffalo players who are always care bearing.
The easy option for his so called fellow brothers was to all just stand together around him and then eventually the lionesses would have had no option but to go find easier prey rather than running back and forth trying to scare them away
That appears to be the usual instinct, especially with calves. This was likely a small bachelor herd.
Imagine having to fight an african buffalo to have dinner...and not even get a ranged weapon to do it.
I'm getting older now and I find this stuff hard to watch now,I know it's nature in the raw and when I was younger I could watch footage like this but it's hard.i know lions have to kill to feed there cubs but feel terrible for these animals getting eaten alive 😢
Always going to be tough work for three lionesses to bring down a full grown buffalo but they kept at it and won in the end.
Does anyone know why Latest Sightings never shows entire videos? Just curious is all. It would be interesting to see the content’s entirety on their channel. Cheers
These so many cute🥺 little lions🦁 trying to take down a 700kg buffalo🐃. And my badass tiger🐯 alone takes on a 1000 kg pure muscle Gaur like a champion 🏆.
Cape bull buffalo weighs 1000kg, while Gaur bull weighs 1100 to 1200kg. It’s more difficult to take down bull Cape buffalo because they are more aggressive, have sharper forward facing horns, can move side to side much faster, have much thicker skin, have a herd that will defend them. Tigers mostly take down female gaurs or sub adult male, not fully grown Gaur bull
These are female lions trying to take down a bull Cape buffalo. Male lions can take down a bull Cape buffalo weighing 1000kg by itself
@@Blue_is_Best_Color we'll a lot of lion lovers are delusional. They have never seen animals in real life, they live in the screen world of internet. I have seen all those animals with my eyes
@@jancyvargheese5351 even by your conservative numbers. For a single tiger to take down one by itself is very impressive. Cape buffalo never weight 1000 kg, even the big prime bulls weighs around 800.
@@magadh4762cape buffalo way dangerous than cutie you mentioned it kills more hunters than any other animal and they can reach 10000sometimes
Poor thing could of survived had his buddy actually cared enough to put up a fight.
The buddy did care that's why it tried, unfortunately they just aren't very smart animals
He kept stopping, turning towards/chasing the lions.
And if every prey animal fought hard enough to survive there wouldn't be any lions, funny how the predator/prey relationships work.
I’m binge watching all the videos on this channel and have seen several of your comments 😂 🙌🏼
Normally 3 lioness cant take down buffalo bull like this.this time this big male buffalo very bad leg hurt, so he cant escape when the help is coming.
this buffalo needs to just run away! lol why does it keep turning around!
Outrun a pride?
I think the title is not very accurate, what do you guys think?
MAN 🦁
How many lions is enough to take down an adult buffalo?
Can buffalos walk backward?
Mother 1Aygun😊
Imagine going to office, trying to do your regular job, yes there are some good friends, but back-biters won't stop. Eventually the fittest survives!
It is unbelievable the amount of people who are commenting that someone needs to intervene. The lack of understanding of the natural world and the predator/prey dynamic is astonishing, people need to realise Disney isn't really how animals live, animals don't all love each other and all play together.
Imagine after all that work a T-Rex would come in and take it away...

tough watch
Would have been nice to see the whole episode as narrated... Why take such short videos ?
I wouldn't be surprised if spectators face similar fate one day. It is not just nature if people are there, watching, for fun, doing nothing.
So buffalos can’t kick they’re hind legs up like bulls right? Cuz it looks like that would be a good thing to try.
Why is the person just recording and not helping at all? Sickening!
You do know jaguars and snakes kill things to ?
Where was the saved here?
Lions always know how
Buffaloes will win ❤
It is a huge win sitting inside the tummy of lionesses and their cubs
😂 try again
Buffalo meat is so good! I went to a restaurant to have buffalo burger it was like 25 dollar
He kept making the same mistake of just standing there when his friend scared the lions off. He should have ran off the moment the lions were scared & ran
In what country?
Kenya
Need the help 😢😢
its a bit like me at the drive-through at burger king. it's a hassle but there's good food coming regardless
😂😂😂😂😂
I feel sad. Didn't expect to go this way.
As long as you look away, the lion will jump on your back
Thats a awesome friend!
😢
Feel slightly bad for the buffalo, then see the cubs at the end
That's a big meal for the Lions
3:11 "That is so cute" What the fuck?
Talking about the lion cubs probably
He’s a goner 3 hours at the most if no one helps
Their like we not letting go until our dinner is lying flat on his rib cage
These lions are not professional and experience less hunters
Kudos to that tenacious pride. They'll eat well all week.
old video
Sadly, all his friend did was prolong the inevitable. The threat never ceased.
It's only lunch time for these beautiful ladies
❤️🌹
🐃 thanks my brother for your effort 💔 see you in the next life 😒
Dont you think your cruel for not scaring those lions off instead stood there filming😢
Do you not think it would be more cruel to keep chasing the lions off their food so the lions would end up starving to death.
Buffalo 1:"Let's play a game called u get bitten by lions and i come to rescue u, it would be good for youtube" Buffalo 2:
The buffalo was saved by another buffalo.. because it has kindness and humanity rather than the humans Humans or shooters wanted to be killed...so it was not saved..or else it would have aluve
Wer stellt solche gewaltverachtenden Filme bei KZhead ein? Eine Schande!
Nature isn't a Disney cartoon, animals don't all love each other. There has to be predator/prey interactions or both wouldn't survive.
jimirving5217, ist mir bekannt. Aner muss so gewalttätigen Filme in KZhead einstellen? KZhead wird auch von Kindern angesehen und nicht nur von "Trump Vans".
Why do we need to see this
They needed help from the king this would have been over

God made them dumb but than again , God made everyone and everything to be eaten , could have given ,all things solar sustenance but that would be to loving and would show mercy
Praise the lions, they are really brave

Wild, I just watched a video last night of over 100 antelopes being too chicken shit to save their homie from 3 hyenas. Then I see this and realize there is still a sense of comradery left in the world
