  • I started watching Joe Rogan recently when he got “canceled,” only to see him saying the N word but could never find it. Months later I’ve grown to like Joe and agree with most of his points. Im black and he merely only was acknowledging the word he wasn’t using it as a slur. But that’s my opinion

    • do you mean "house husband with epilepsy"? ill say retarded doesn't apply to you. my father is epileptic and he fought his whole life (still) to hide it. He's the top Civil Engineer in a huge county in America. I think you're a whiner. Then again maybe you're simply a retard. "Hard R" whaaa. That's ridiculous. Take some ownership for your life! • Joe hit the nail on the head. You can't change how people think. Intent matters. Removing the word "retarded" isn't going to stop a bully from making their target feel bad for their mental abilities. If they don't say retarded, they'll use some other words, and the intent is what hurts people.

    @uatu3751@uatu375111 ай бұрын
  • If you look up the levels of retardation the most severe is called "profound retardation". Tom is exactly right because I've been calling people profound for years now and it just hasn't caught on yet. Sometimes people think I'm complementing them which adds so much hilarity to it 😂

  • In my high school we had a campaign every year called "Spread the word to end the word." The name in itself is stupid,but it gets better. One of their claims was to make "Respect" the new R word,so they sold T-shirts with a giant "R" on them with no additional context because the rest of the design on the shirt was blank. All of the special ed kid would wear those shirts during the week that the campaign was dedicated to..mind you, this was done twice a year. On top of that, we had play/concert for the special ed kids every semester. One holiday and a spring one that was a different theme every year. I was at a large school, and our theater had a max capacity of 800 people. So imagine special ed kids with shirt having nothing but a giant "R" on them doing covers of Disney songs in front of 800 high schoolers. Half of us were giggling/laughing from being very uncomfortable. These teachers were completely unaware of reality by making us watch that.

When you blacklist a word, and it becomes taboo, then the actual bigots who were misusing it in the first place now wield a sharper blade than they had before because now the word has even more shock value. If the vast majority of people took the word back and used it in its original context, then the bigots who were misusing it in a derogatory way would be stripped of their power because nobody would be feeding them an emotional response anymore. Maybe Randal in _Clerks II_ was onto something with the "I'm taking it back" thing.

My biggest issue with these hard-line SJW-types critiquing and making violent threats against comedians for the jokes they write and tell is, they either genuinely don't understand or actively choose not to understand that humor is incredibly subjective. Whether or not you find something funny is perfectly fine by me, but the moment you go after someone who happens to have a different sense of humor from you, especially if your version of going after said person involves making violent threats, that's where you've lost my respect (especially when you're a quote unquote "progressive" type who allegedly calls someone a cocksucker to get your point across).

    • Why do you use the c word it's pathetic do you know not what too say or just sheep and follow what everybody else is doing

    • It’s not even a blip as nobody whom isn’t trying to be deliberately cruel uses it in reference to actual disabled people. We use it to describe abled people whom are being exceptionally stupid. It’s a slur against the common person by common people, both in good humor or not. Intent MATTERS! Bullies can and will use ANY word to hurt people, so retard is in no way unique in that regard.

  • As a physically disabled man of 42 had my accident at 24 im no different to anyone else you should be able to laugh at anything. If you dont like the joke dont watch it simple. I bet 75% of the responses he got were people being outraged on behalf of others.
