The Super Mario Speedrun by Tavo Betancourt was actually not spotted because of someone counting the coins, but rather immediately as he did a "fast start" at every start of the level, that literally isn't possible on a controller. (He took most parts from a TAS run) Because of that it was very easy to spot for other speedrunners. After they knew it was cheating, they started to break it down and spot every ridiculous hint making it obvious he's cheating. There are great videos on it.
He also stole footage from several runners and horribly cropped the top bar; Karl Jobst made an excellent video on it you should watch.

For the bug with Marq, I think the Admins' judgment was fair; it's one thing to encounter a bug; it's another to exploit it and use it despite knowing it's not supposed to be happening.

I am not a fortnite fan, but damn I have to give the devs props here. Other companies should also be harsher on several offenses. Cheating being one of them, but misbehaviour ingame is often also overlooked just to keep more players in for money.

I remember I was playing Modern Warfare II (The new COD game) and I was in resurgence quads unfortunately all of my teammates were cheaters, one used a aimbot, another used wall hacks, and the last one used magnetic bullet cheat, I'd never felt so ashamed for being part of something like that and I left the match halfway through.
Honestly, the first girl could have just played it off as a joke. Saying people think she cheats because she’s a girl, then proceeds to cheat on “purpose” as a gag.
A great funny idea although she was gonna get banned either way for cheating on a ranked match. Still love the idea though. Would've been smarter and funnier compared to what she was doing xD

For the H1Z1 developer, I don't think he was cheating. I think he genuinely forgot to disable invisibility while he was trying to show something in game without any disturbance. His reaction seems organic.

Yes, many years ago I was given Admin privilege's in a Crysis server, i was up top in a bunker roof getting familiar with all the Admin command's when i was fired upon my reaction was immediately fire back and kill him, the problem was that i was trying to input god mode and succeed, of course I was called a hacker and I can see why they would think it, so as a away to apologize i stood at the middle of the map for the entire game (60min) for anyone who wanted to kill me, they were new to the server so they didn't know me but they were kind enough to accept my punishment and retracted the hack claims

The actual thing went more like 'It was purposefully fake, because the run was done as a joke. It was meant to be so super obvious everyone would know it was a joke.' Obviously that's no better an excuse, because its clear from the original run that that wasn't true at the time. Karl Jobst did a great video covering the situation if you want to know more.

It's a lot mentally and not a stretch he forgot while doing some legit work. Admins are one thing. Devs really have too much shit on their plate to "go stunt on 12 year olds"
There's also 0 motivation for a dev to cheat while streaming their own game. You're trying to feature gameplay to excited viewers about your project, not impressed people with fake skills...

Xqc's explanation kinda makes sense. I have literally downloaded and used Cheat Engine in the past to make single player games HARDER, not easier. In emulation terms, a "cheat" is anything that modifies the game's memory, so it has as many different purposes as that sounds. Some games have "widescreen cheats" for example to modify the code to make older games display in a widescreen format. Pokemon games are played in emulators so it adds up.
he 100% was telling the truth because there were folders called "battery" "states" & "roms" as well which get added when you download the DeSmuME Nintendo emulator (I know because i have the emulator and the same folders)
21:53 Yes, knowingly exploiting bugs is cheating. Even if the bug was unintentional or unknown, the moment he decided to knowingly use it to his advantage during a live tournament crossed the line. Would he be okay with it if his opponents did the same? He should be glad he wasn't banned.

I remember in killzone they used to punish cheaters by redirecting them to special servers where everyone is a cheater, and based on what I've heard it isn't fun at all. But such a cool way to punish cheaters. Edit: damn, if i learned anything from the replies, is that csgo has probably the craziest audience ever.

I have a feeling the developer didn't mean to cheat, they were probably testing this cheat software to see how to counter it then forgot to turn it off. After all if someone is going to cheat then they'd want to be a bit more subtle than making themselves invisible lol.
It wasn't even cheat software. He opened the command menu to fix it. With a developer account, they have access to commands through the command menu that are built into the game that allow them to help players, invisibly monitor games, etcetc. So the odds are he had the invisibility running and just genuinely forgot to turn it off before taking part in the match, as you say.
Some developers sell cheats
It's not even cheat software, just a standard dev tool. People who do online admin work in particular often have such tools so that they can observe what players "are doing in the dark", since that's one of the ways you catch cheaters. He apparently had it turned on from when he was doing something else, and forgot to turn it off. If a dev actually wanted to cheat, there are so, so many ways they could accomplish it that don't involve them running around obviously invisible.
I've been GM for Ultima Online for years. You don't know how many times I went to some gamers who made a mess and complained to them forgetting that they didn't see me. It's something that happens, trust me. I give 110% good faith to the guy in question.

The Azubu Frost "cheating" is much more of an idiotic design failure of the stage rather than cheating by anyone. If you're setting up a tournament with 6+ figure prizes on the line then DON'T position the players in such a way that they can see a giant screen showing where everything is on the map.

More Free to Play games need to follow Path of Exile. You pay for cosmetic, convenience and to support the dev. You can basically play the entire game withhout paying a single dime.

Could be a spectating motive. I know if I was a dev, I would love to interact with fans in game without joining the game myself
@@Toadprince29 It's possible that he was either spectating or, potentially, was previously testing something that he was invisible to observe and forgot to turn it off. Guy's probably alternating between 2-4+ different builds of the game for his job, after all.
I agree that DEV was not cheating he just fucked up, reaction was genuine. Compensation to the affected players would be the correct course of action in this case.

I'm the type to look into things more extensively. In his case, I could see in his facce he realized he had fucked up and honestly didn't mean to be cheating. So that makes Sense.

@10:51 I think that the developer, genuinely forgot that he had his developer mods on. He clearly asks and also stops playing when it's brought to his attention. Even another player asked if he was hidden. He also seems to immediately bring up a code page and I'd imagine he apologized and turned off the mod. I hope he didn't get receive any penalties or even get any flak from the community for this. Honest mistake.
