  • I was going to get a semicolon tattoo, and was going through different fonts with a friend. Out of nowhere, a font turned the semicolon into a trapezoid, and both of us burst out laughing so much. About a year later, I put that trapezoid on my ankle. For me, it represents the semicolon it actually is, but it's also a reminder that sometimes things don't turn out the way you expect them to, and that's okay. I'll roll with it.

    • @@Just_Reading_Comments That’s how I’ve been seeing it since the news broke. He hurt her and her family (most importantly HER and their children), he broke any bit of trust he had with the other try guys (and now Eugene is stuck in the company longer than he wanted to be because how do you leave during a company crisis like that??), nobody at the office will ever be able to look at him or Alex the same way. The worst part of all of it is that they both knew the person that they were cheating with was in a long-term committed relationship with someone else and they were so comfortable by the time that things were blowing up that they were making out in public! The lack of empathy or care for their partners is disgusting!

      @mstickney6612@mstickney6612 Жыл бұрын
    • @@mstickney6612 I totally agree. I had also thought about poor Eugene. It really did seem like he was slowly transitioning out of the company to pursue his other interests and now that's been totally screwed up. Thankfully the people in the office won't have to see Ned in the office anymore but Alex is still there. I know the guys said not to send her hate and blah blah blah but she is just as responsible for what happened as Ned. You can't tell me she actually feared for her job or anything and that's why she participated in the affair. She could have went to ANY of the guys, probably anyone in the office, and said Ned was making her uncomfortable or whatever and it would have been handled. I also agree about the making out in public, like come on you're in the middle of NYC and at a Harry Styles concert with thousands of people. They weren't even trying to hide which tells me they either felt untouchable or were TRYING to get caught (again). Ned used to comment in videos "my kids are going to see this" and now they will see this cheating scandal which, imo, is so much worse and he wasn't worried about it. I know it's their business but if it's true that this isn't Ned's first affair I really hope she ends it, otherwise it will just keep happening. I never agree with "staying together for the kids" I really think it's worse for them in the long run.

    • Agreed. I’m a childhood cancer survivor (lymphoma) and growing up, I hated all of the scars on my chest, neck and back. I got bullied over them a lot in change rooms for gym as well. When I got old enough to get tattoos without permission, I got one of my late cat’s pawprints done with her name and it felt like I was taking some control back over my appearance. I only have two tattoos at the moment, but they’ve honestly made me feel so much better over my own skin.

    • I remember being there. It took medication, determination (or just stubbornness, really), and support from friends for me to get to a place where I'm not constantly fighting it. Every so often, I have to adjust my medication, like right now - I'm stuck, trapped with little energy and less motivation, no focus, constantly working for those good brain chemicals from the moment I get up to when I fall asleep. But I know that it's a physical thing, just like diabetes or any other illness, except in my brain. Tiny workers of my brain don't communicate, chemicals aren't held onto when they should be, and the medication is like giving them walkie-talkies. It took a long, long, long time for me to accept that I needed medication. I tried to convince myself for years that I didn't, that each episode was related to something specific, and then I gave up. I tried to press the game over button. They put me on a medication and it made the biggest difference. It sounds strange, but I actually have very fond memories of being in the hospital at that point in time. There is always a way. No one approach or medication works for everyone. No 'one size fits all' exists. But I think of it like modding a game; my computer hates some mods and just won't run them, a rare few will make it crash, but mostly it's about looking and trying things until the game feels right. I promise you are not alone. There are people willing to listen no matter what it is you have to say, and they'll remind you that everything you feel is a valid feeling, is a real feeling, and it's okay *not* to be okay. Sometimes we have to wait for our environment to change, and suffering through that sucks. But it's worth it. When you're able to smile without it being forced or fake, when you're able to laugh, everything it takes to get there is worth that laughter.

They look at the absolute kid at 19 with tear tracks on my face and bandages on my arms and a guy takes me back and walks me through the process and helps me design it. It’s on my right foot and it didn’t hurt at all I was so far gone but it gave me something to focus on when things got bad. Because on the worst day I made art. I became art. • I got a tattoo for much the same reason that Jonathan did. I felt like I was drowning and my body no longer belonged to me. Getting a tattoo was my last-ditch effort to feel something. Mine is on the inside of my left forearm and it says "stop.think.go" in my favorite font--advice I got from a tenth-grade English teacher that applied to my writing and my life in general. I've never regretted it a day since. I hate that there are so many of us in the comments who have been to that dark place, but I love that we're still here. I'm glad to be here and if you're reading this I hope you are, too, or that one day soon you're able to find a moment that makes you think "I'm so glad I didn't miss this."

    • I completely agree, Carlos! I'm so glad he shared it because there are so many of us who can relate. My one and only suicidal moment was Easter weekend 1974. I lived in a high-rise on a hill. I climbed out onto the windowsill. I was really hurt something my father had done or said. I sat on the windowsill many floors up from a bank parking lot and decided that my father wasn't worth killing myself for.

    • When my husband first cheated on me and left me, I felt like I was disposable. As a way to counteract that feeling, I got a tattoo that made me feel like I have a purpose in the world, and am valuable. It's on my chest so that in the summer, when I have more of my skin exposed, random people ask me about it, and I get to explain my purpose, which is a nice reminder to me of who I am and why I'm here in this universe.

  • It's always so weird to hear people be so anti-tattoo because it's always been so normalized for me. I got the "make sure it has meaning" speech when I was younger, but that's about it. That said, a friend I've known for years online just came to visit for the first time and 4 of my friends got little matching dinosaur tattoos to commemorate. He's a silly little tattoo and not even anatomically accurate for any type of dino, but I love it because of the story that goes with it and the people that I love sharing that experience with me.

All five of my tattoos are related to my struggles with anxiety and depression (three of them actually directly on SH scars), and I’ve found that they’re a great opener to talking about mental health to people. Tattoos are one of the best means of self expression, and pave the way for a better understanding of ourselves and of others.
