Dramatic Rescue by Hyenas after a Lion Catches one
This is the moment when a clan of hyenas all came together to save a clan mate from the jaws of a massive lion!

This amazing show of strong family bonds was captured on camera by Maddie Lowe while on safari with Margot Lowe and guide Witness Mathebule also known as De Beer. They shared their footage and story with LatestSightings.com.
During their adventure at@ArathusaSafariLodge in early August, they stumbled upon a jaw-dropping scene that unfolded before their lenses. This remarkable sighting witnessed in the heart of the African wilderness, showcases the power struggle between lions and hyenas and the remarkable unity of the hyena clan. Margot, Maddie, and De Beer were about to capture an incident that would leave them in awe of nature's raw intensity.
Margot and Maddie Lowe, from Australia, were on their second day of safari at@ArathusaSafariLodge, when they had returned to a sighting of a kill made by lions the previous day. However today there were no lions around but instead a clan of hyenas feeding on the remains.
Suddenly, there was a change in the atmosphere as some of the hyenas stopped feeding and became very weary. The group could sense that something was about to go down! But what? No one knew.
Then, out of nowhere, a huge male lion came charging in . The hyenas scattered in every direction and squealed with displeasure. Luckily for those hyenas who sensed the danger, their getaway was easy. The others who were too busy eating just managed to escape by mere inches!
However, one unluck y hyena was just not fast enough and was caught! The lion and hyena went tumbling in a full summersault. The lion’s powerful jaws closed around the hyena’s head in a deadly grip. The situation appeared dire for the hyena until something remarkable happened. Its clan rushed to its aid, demonstrating the close bonds that exist among these animals.
The clan began biting and nipping at the lion's back and hind legs. The lion tried to ignore the constant pestering from the hyenas but had no option and was forced to turn and face them. In the process, the hyenas were able to cause enough distraction that the poor hyena, which looked as if it had seen its last day, was able to break free!

Hyenas are honestly underrated, they don’t deserve the hate they always get. It’s nice to see how they care about each other.
Hyenas are little tanks with brains. They even have a certain sense of politics comparable to primates'.
Hyenas are overrated take dutti for example
They are hated because they all laugh like the Joker. Imagine hearing that laugh at night, then seeing their shiny eyes glittering at you in the dark. Then getting eaten alive by a pack of them. Wouldn’t that be one of the scariest experiences/endings a human being can encounter?
@@LionDominator it’s the oversized cats the lions that are overrated lion fanboy. They have the media on their side. No sane person would say hyenas are overrated lmao

A wolf, leopard, cheetah, or any other predator that size getting mauled by a lion like that would’ve been toast. Hyenas are the only animals I’ve seen that are so tough and resilient
It's honestly crazy how resiliant hyenas are
not really, as all wild animals are tough and resilient. You have zebras or even gazelle that are latched on by a croc for 5 minutes and it often manages to survive. It´s much more difficult in all kinds of wildlife to kill than to be killed.
@@north2greenThat was just a subadult hyena and survived unharmed. If that was an adult leopard, cheetah, or wild dog it would have not survived
@@north2green I have to agree with you, all animals are really resiliant. However i feel like hyenas tend to survive longer with injuries than other animals, but then again it might be because they live in a clan

One can appreciate the risk they take to stand by and save one of their own!
The biggest risk would be for the lonely lion. They do not know their strenght. Together the lion would not stand a chance at all.
I wonder if the lion was biting hard enough or was just trying to scare the hyenas. Because the neck bite lasted for 30 secs, and yet the hyena was able to escape.
That last Hyena that stood up & faced the lion at the end, must be the leader, very brave!
Yes she was the matriarch. Her name is “corky”
Love or hate hyenas. You gotta at least respect them for how tough they are and coming back to save their clan member.
Human's would have either fled the scene, or simply recorded it so they have something to post later. No one would risk their lives to help.
@edntz yeeeeah but unless you actually have a weapon that can even bother the lion you ain't doing shit lol ... in my personal opinion unless you are immediate family or best friend status I ain't risking shit for someone I don't. Basically, these guys are hella tough for their size. Makes sense given how many fights they get into, never mind now having to contend with the lions that _starts_ at about three times their size. Pretty intense selection pressure for injury tolerance there.
The male lion couldn't even seriously injure the hyena that grabbed it, and was severely counterattacked by the other hyenas. In the scene from 1:11~ the hyena is about to bite the male lion's face. The hyena that was bitten by the male lion suffered no injuries and is still healthy. A male lion should never meddle with a hyena alone unless in the company of two or more. There are multiple videos on youtube of lions attacking hyenas, but not a single single male lion has reliably killed an adult hyena. Hyenas are very powerful animals, and male lions are as difficult a task to take down an adult hyena as it is to take down a male cape buffalo. lioness can never kill an adult hyena, even if it's more than one, so she always runs away after being crushed by the hyena.

They live in groups for a _reason._
I guess the lion king movie was wrong
If it was a pack of wild dogs, I think the lion would've killed at least one of them. Hyena is pretty big for a lion
The painted dogs are about 1/3 of spotted hyena size, and spotted hyenas are about 1/3 _lioness_ size. (Male lions are meaningfully bigger natch.) But where even lone hyenas can get away with some frankly astonishing audacity against the doggos a solitary lioness is pretty much a goner if she runs into a hyena group, and even the big males need to watch their step around the buggers if they don't have the pride for support. What I'm getting at is spotted hyenas are disproportionately tough bastards for their size.
Even though the hyena was rescued by its clan members, chances of surviving that lion assault are 50/50
The young hyena was filmed 10 days after the incident. He is unharmed with 2 scratches on his head. The video is called „Ngwazi the survivor“
They almost immediately go for the balls so he had to turn his rear toward the bushes to protect himself.
That's universal pack-hunter tactics, they use it against prey all the time. The groin has a lot of major nerves and blood vessels so injuries there disable rapidly, and it's also a relatively safe target given it's at the opposite end from where the teeth and horns and tusks and other natural weaponry (as well as the eyes to direct them) are. If you look at videos of fights between the various predators of the savanna one thing you'll quickly notice is how they're wont to hold their hindquarters low to the ground when surrounded specifically to deny the opponents that juicy target - the constant turning you see in that scenario plays into that too. Spotted hyenas have even evolved noticeably smooth and rounded hindquarters to deny hostile fangs purchase on the hips etc. which should say something about how many fights _they_ get into.
I've also seen footage of a pair of hyenas that were being chased by an irate pack of painted dogs park their butts against a tree in similar fashion. Resulted in a standoff and the dogs eventually leaving to do something more useful with their time. Water gets used similarly as most African critters instinctively avoid entering it for fear of crocs and angry hippos, though spotted hyenas seem to be an exception (they're apparently clever enough to be able to tell when it's safe).
I don't understand why the Lion always wants to choke the Hyena. Why doesn't the Lion try to bite or scratch the Hyena?
that's just how they kill. i'm sure they have good reason for how they do it, they know best with their experience
Kill?
Don't worry they scratch..but bite does more damage
It's a good tactic, but not when being swarmed. The hyens got away because it had the clan as backup, would've died otherwise.
I love that the hyenas brutalized the male and put holes in his back and ripped open his face! Hyenas are tougher and better hunters and more intelligent than any big cat! Love the hyenas
lol dude that's all BS. the only thing hyena's got over them is their teamwork. and they're definitely not better hunters than cats. cats are god damn ninjas. best hunter creature ever created.
@@hazardeur yes S. Hyenas are better hunters than cats. What you mean to say Is that cats have better hunting technique. (which isn't really a thing)
@@hazardeur Lions have a success rate of 30%, whereas hyenas have a success of 74%. Then there's African wild dogs, with an 80% success rate.
nope, i meant to say what i said. solo, a hyena is not going to last long whereas for almost every cat, it's daily life. hyenas evolved with their pack strategy and that works for them but that's why hyenas are worse hunters than cats. cats are built for hunting @@Monster-Beast-Fan
@@hazardeurHyenas have one of the strongest jaw and neck in the animal kingdom. Have a much higher stamina than lions and bigger hearts. Much more durable and resilient
Wow that Hyena was actually Remarkably Strong wow Africas Tough
That was some excellent footage. I assumed that was in Africa somewhere. Very brave to film something like that.❤
This was filmed from a safari vehicle. The animals ignore them because they think it's another, bigger animal.
🤣🤣🤣
It is in Africa (where else would you see something like this? The fact both species here are only native to Africa proves the video was taken in Africa).

Hyenas ripped the lion,s face open, put holes in his back and forced him to release the young hyena
@@yueviathan same as lion fans like you think a single lion can kill a clan of hyenas. A pride of lions gives way to a single elephant. If it crosses their path.
@@rameshpudhucode6862 um...what? Why are you putting words in my mouth? I didn't say that nor believe that. Can you fan boy of animals stop making everything a popularity war please? Yall are ridiculous. Unlike you I understand how both animals work. No a single lion can't defeat a entire clan, in fact hyenas that want to kill a lion are extremely likely to do so when they gang up on them and tip the odds to do just that. many lionesses, cubs, and subadult and lone males die this way. Again I can like an animal and still understand facts and not twist the narrative like you people seem to do. I watch lion documentaries, hyena documentaries, elephant documentaries, cheetah and leopard documentaries, wild dog documentaries.. Should I go into how wild dogs stand up to hyenas? All these animals fight for survival and don't give a damn whether we like them or not, and would easily kill us if we got out of our cars and tried to greet them. So yeah, yall weird.
I'm going to add to my comment. I like the personality and dynamics of lions, and their beauty but I would never want to be one. To be a lion you have to be ok with cannibalisms, rape following cannibalisms, relentless fighting, high risk chance of severe injuries due to how they hunt or constant conflict, and relentless wars both with other lions and hyenas, and also risk from leopards and elephants, you are born being hated by everything in the safari, while also poached by humanity. To be a hyena you have a monarchy, and tight nit group but you have to be good at the politics of it, which is prone to a bully complex within it as early as a cub, you are at war with other clans and lions, and take on everything in the bush at some point or another. I respect them but wouldn't want to be them either. In all honesty, the animal who life I respect the most is wild dogs and elephants but if we stick to carnivores wilds dogs is my pick. A tight nit family that fight to the death to protect their young and each other always, have a high hunting success rate and prefer to avoid all parties. Sadly what kills them most is lions and hyenas. Which is why they are critically endangered, but yeah they basically dogs/wolves out there and in the wild is the least likely to attack you. Jackles also live cute lives with low issues, they are often ignored. I adore lions and fascinated by them, but I respect hyenas life style more, but I respect wild dogs more then both and elephants more then them. If you want my honest answer.
Hyenas are brave, strong, tough, rugged, smart, durable, resilient and have the strongest jaw, neck and heart. Hyenas are gorgeous and amazing 👏 👏 👏 👏
Are you the type of person with multiple oversized pet dogs & a bumper sticker that says "I love my dogs"
@@DigitalDissidentHyenas are hyenas. They are so unique that they have a family all their own called Hyaenidae. But they are closer to cats than dogs
