@@YaflamingGalah That's stuff that is just repeated. And it really is NOT true in the way it's made to seem. I've seen a lot of lions with injuries, and even a 3-legged hyena. So what do you mean by "recover"? Survive with a permanently cripped leg? Or die of infection from bloody wounds that look survivable? Crippling injuries are likely to shorten their lives, wounds and inability to eat well are likely also to bring on TB that's already latent.
You can’t help but admire the resilience and sheer bloody mindedness of Hyenas. A true survivor in nature.

I been studying Hyenas for about a year now everyday on Wild Earth Channel. The are my favorite animal now. And the Leopard. They say Hyenas are smarter than Primates. And the Cubs are a blast.

That Hyena came back from the dead! For her to even stand up after what happened is nothing less than astounding, you can see how fast she recuperated in moments with our own very eyes. She went from completely dazed with what looked like a broken leg to limping, barely walking and then by the end of the clip she was able to run. Just amazing I hope she survived.
That hyena was dead. She might not have survived a day more due to her injuries.

It wasn't the hyena that escaped, it was the lions that let it live, they could kill it but they didn't want to. Perhaps as a warning to the other hyenas every time they look at the injured hyena to remember the power of lions.

Omg... such a wrong understanding of what happened. The lions let the hyena live with broken leg. Thats what they do as a reminder to other hyena as a show of dominancs. Its a common tactic. They catch a hyena and break their back or legs and leave them. Its form of humiliation.

I am a cat person but have serious respect for this Hyena. He managed to walk away after a fearful beating and then courageously stand his ground again, against the lion. Thankfully the others in the clan did assist drawing the lion away. Quite the sighting, sad for the Hyena but it is nature. Hope he survives.

Not many animals can survive a 5 lion pile-up...incredible resilience and a will to live.
This was one of the best mobile recordings of wild life ever!! I wish other wildlife videographers would learn to " stay on the action" like these guys did !!! And no talking!!😊!
Despite there being a very-high probability that the hyena ultimately died from internal injuries, it has to be the only animal in the world that could get up and walk away. The bonds with the hyena clan was impressive also. There were a lot of big male lions there. They genuinely fear them, but were brave enough to attempt a rescue.

@@Dutti215. Nope. I think the lions just lost interest and let the hyena go. In the Mara in Kenya, some two male lions kept a hyena clan at bay while one male killed the alpha female.
@@ogana_M They did not lose interest. It just took too long and the hyena didn’t die. I know the video you are referring to. It happened in the Kruger national park not Mara Kenya. The hyena defeated the first lion but the second lion joined the attack and the two of them ganged up on that one hyena. The video owner said this: „after 4 hours the hyena was still alive“. That long it takes two adult male lions to kill an adult hyena. And there were not a hyena clan around. 3 or 4 hyenas that didn’t help

I don’t think that was a charge tbh, I think it just stumbled that way…but hyenas are without a doubt one of the most resilient animals on the planet! Two broken legs and it figured out a way to run using the less injured one 😮 I’m rooting for this one, it’ll be hard to survive without the clan’s help, but they did come to rescue it knowing there were 3 other male lions nearby so hopefully it’s one of the higher ranking female’s offspring and they’ll help feed & protect it until those wounds are healed…poor thing deserves to survive after walking away from such a brutal mauling.

Hyenas are among the toughest creatures in the world. It takes a long time for even a male lion to kill a hyena.
In fact, a lion attack does not take even one minute. The lion does not need to be killed to death, it only launches an attack on the spine and then leaves you alive to face death.

Kudos to both the lion and the hyena. My kudos to the lion is leaving the hyena unfinished. But it’s intentional and often that they do this, they want to show the injured hyena as a sign of warning and dominance for the other hyenas who dare to challenge him. It’s a smart tactic. When they do kill hyenas, it’s usually when they’re alone and have nothing to prove or warn to other hyenas. As for the hyenas, I’m just very pleased with how no matter the odds are, their will to survive is phenomenal. Against 5 male lions, the hyena didn’t give up on life just yet, saving every last breath it had left. That takes hope, strength, and faith. Kudos to them for being true survivors. Even though they come off as annoying, and I’d easily favor a lion over them, you can’t just ignore this prideful mentality they have. Just watching these animals in the wild can even teach us life lessons. And that’s the main thing I take away from that, and you should too.

Adult male lions don’t let “a rival predator” survive. Male lions kill, they don,t play around. If this was a leopard, cheetah, wild dog it would have died in seconds or less than a minute at most. Heartbreaking seeing a hyena or lion seriously injured, hyenas get a bad wrap. Ppl badmouthing them just coz they eat prey alive, when the lions eat prey alive nobody ever badmouths the lions, they only badmouth the hyenas WOW there some UNEDUCATED STUPID ppl right there 😳 I hope this hyena recovers over time survives another day.
