They just gived enough time for accessory makers (because iPhone have way more accessory like iPad and Macbooks..) to prepare to the change.. a sudden decision can bankrupt thousands of company.. like they have 10000 lighting Thermal camera in stock, what they will never sell after the change.. or do you think people will buy a $300 thermal camera when they know they will change their phone soon, and it will be unusable, so they need to buy one more.. because thermal camera became unusable with adapter.. and that is just one example.. so they did it on the right way, gived enough time for the manufacturers to empty their warehouses (on that way the things will become to e-waste at least a few years later, and nobody will bankrupt..)

  • apple fought for many years against right to repair for a reason corporate greed

    @sinistan1002@sinistan1002Ай бұрын
    • I think right to repair is where tthey deserve to be sued for, not this garbage. I for one, use apple devices in part for the strong security a closed ecosystem provides. The scary thing will be that if there's a pathway to download an app without the app store, then it's possible you open a message or click a website and malware is downloaded without you even knowing. Right now, there's physically no code path for this to happen. Create the path in code, and someone somewhere will find a way to exploit it. Apple devices will be way less secure.

      @heyaisdabomb@heyaisdabombАй бұрын
    • @@heyaisdabomb Yeah the right to repair thing is a tricky one. Apple ended up choosing its current path for 2 reasons. First was security. Obviously it wouldn't do to have someone sabotage your fingerprint or faceID scanner to get instant access to your phone. So they started by securing everything from the secure enclave to the fingerprint scanner and serializing all the components so that if even the wires between them were swapped out that functionality would brick. Since their phones are used by people of all walks of life including people with government secrets this is kind of a reasonable consideration IMHO. Second was that a multi billion dollar industry started to pop up where people would buy iPhones, harvest parts out of them, break the phone and then return it under warranty. The stolen parts would then be used to fix other phones to be sold or just outright sold to other repair shops. Apple had an absolute fortune stolen from them by these people and wanted to protect themselves against it. Again, kind of a reasonable response in my opinion. Honestly it does suck. But I'm more mad at people who perform espionage and steal endless amounts of money from Apple by harvesting parts out for ruining everything. In a perfect world none of this would be necessary and we'd have right to repair as a result but it's kind of like seeing a store close down after being repeatedly robbed in a high crime area. Yeah it sucks for the community that it's gone but are you going to be mad at the company or at the criminals who drove them to close up shop?

      @drenathor@drenathorАй бұрын
    • @@heyaisdabombI agree. The repair issue is an entirely different thing. But to force Apple to open up its App Store to whoever is crazy. There is a reason Apple products have the least amount of Malware and virus issues. They keep downloadable software very strict/limited. This could lead to all kinds of security risks.

      @user-xh1fo7fv5r@user-xh1fo7fv5rАй бұрын
    • @@heyaisdabomb disagree, I should be able to install what i wish on a device ive paid for. its already possible to download apps outside of the appstore WITHOUT jailbreaking or exploiting the device. (look into developer mode and sideloading; altstore and sideloadly are good tools for this) the issue is apple makes this process needlessly cumbersome after the apps are installed. apps expire and need to be renewed after a week (to get around this you need to install a server a pc you use that renews and resyncs these apps every week) and your only allowed to install 3 apps if you dont have a developer account ($100 a year). honestly, if apple removed these two restrictions i would be completely fine with there being no official support for third party appstores, as it would allow those who really wanted to build and install their own apps.

    • @@user-xh1fo7fv5rI've been using Android for over a decade and not ONCE have I ever gotten a virus or malware. Stop this security narrative. Android 10, 11, 12 and onward each have gotten consistently better with security. With Samsung phones, there's basically two offerings of security. One coming from Samsung, which is a manufacturer offering and the other is from Google. There's PLENTY of features that are of equal if not superior to Apple. People who have iPhones are just incompetent of knowing what to do with an Android phone.

    • Well technically the Microsoft case was completely different. Microsoft was using their influence to dictate to small businesses what they could and couldn’t pre install on their computers for their own clients. Microsoft didn’t create the computers and didn’t own the companies selling hardware with their OS. But they were bullying small OEM vendors to force them to not install apps for their customers despite selling them tools to do just that. Google did essentially the same thing and got in trouble for it too. However in Apple’s case they make the hardware, the software, maintain the closed ecosystem and own their apple stores. So the Microsoft lawsuit would be more like as if they started demanding that they would only sell office on the iPhone if apple banned all competing office apps and stopped making their own. It’s not Microsoft’s place to do that and they’d get sued if they tried.

  • I use iPhone and Mac…so yeah I’m an Apple user. But the issues of allowing devices to communicate well enough cross platform is something that should be fixed. Yes, it’s business. But I do believe the simplest issue of them all with the green/blue bubbles thing should be ironed out for users.

    @Wizreader2828@Wizreader2828Ай бұрын
    • It's more complex than that. There's reasons from a computer science stand point that these things are done as well. Apple created it's own picture and video files that is inherently compressed by up to 80%, called .HEIC files. There's a size limitations in SMS messages that have. to be ironed out, and all the blue message is doing is telling you, is this going through imessage i.e. the internet or SMS, which is through your cell carriers network (not the internet). This gives customers more information, and helps me to know what I can and can't do because android doesn't have the same features as ios. Non apple devices or third party apps opens the ecosystem to malware and viruses. Apples closed ecosystem provides a strong layer of security, even the government struggles to break in as we saw in the San Bernadino terrorist case. You can't mandate a company to build software to work with other devices. Are they going to sue LG because smart things only works with LG devices? What about other companies with their own proprietary systems?

If u want to be part of the Apple eco system, buy an apple product. As far as the “tap to pay” that Apple hv more of a grasp, then I would ask who came up with the tech? When iPhones first came out, they had an exclusive deal with AT&T for the first few years, so u had to be with AT&T.

      @cjr2727@cjr2727Ай бұрын
    • Apple already announced, the day after this lawsuit was filed, that they will update iMessage to be compatible with Rcs by next year. So the fact that they can update their app so fast blows holes in your argument. Let alone announcing the update THE DAY AFTER YOU ARE SUED. You should watch the DOJs breakdown. The issue is that apple deliberately makes OTHER devices technology not work or less performative on iPhone. And because of the bad experiences with other devices apple users then shop for apple devices to save the headache. But thats the problem. The DOJ isnt saying you cant have proprietary tech. They are saying you cant build into your device faulty performance if you are connecting to a non apple device, app, product, browser, which apple 100% does hence why it lost in the EU. The USA is just copy pasting the case cause all the evidence is there.

If Apple products work together nicely, then good for them. But they should not make non-apple items painful. For example, if Google decides to give only 240p on KZhead when played in an Apple device and gives 4K to non-apple device, technically, they are not breaking any laws. However, they are making the user experience so painful on Apple devices that will make people switch to non-apple devices. Wouldn't you complain that Google is doing this intentionally? If Facebook, Amazon, Microsoft and all big tech companies do the same, then everyone will complain that they are targeting Apple by giving inferior experience and better experience on Android devices. Apple is doing the same by making non-apple experience painful and people don't realize that. Apple is subconsciously making people to use only their products instead of giving them a choice.

AT&T had a true monopoly and there wasn't any real competition and all the existing phone lines were owned by one company that wouldn't share. It was broken up as a result. Whereas Android outsells iPhone every year. By definition it's not a monopoly. With Microsoft, they had an OS that ran on other people's hardware and released tools to let manufacturers roll out custom versions of Windows pre-loaded with drivers, software, wallpaper packs and more. But when people started bundling firefox into the OEM versions of Windows Microsoft suddenly tried revoking licenses, bullying creators, and more. They released tools designed for a purpose and then intimidated people for using them when they used them according to the license. With Apple, They built nearly everything from the ground up. The hardware, software, app store, APIs, etc. Apple has never made any secrets about how closed their ecosystem is and has marketed it as a hand curated, gated community by design. And people buy it knowing this up front. Problem is, competitors don't like playing by Apple's rules and have been aggressively lobbying the government to tell Apple how they have to do business. In the walled garden they have a sense of privacy compared to what? I have both the iphone 14 and samsung note 20 even with the iphone as my main phone they offer me the same privacy. Faster and longer updates compared to what? Google pixel offers faster and longer updates, Samsung is slower but just as long updates? You speak as though android is 1 device/company. What windows product are you comparing it to? again hundreds of devices. MAC is outright better for design, while Windows is outright better for gaming. The rest you can make an argument for either and is preference. Virus? you're really going back 10 years ago, its not a thing anymore. Yes there was a time MAC was the safest but now thats just a standard. It had nothing to do with their walled garden but their software which was ahead of its time. I can't comprehend how anyone with a little bit of brain cells can think a monopoly is great. Apple benefited from microsoft losing their monopoly and then turned around and did the same thing now people praise it? The only advantage the walled garden provides is seamless transitions of their products. Which if their products are truly better won't effect them. If they allowed other smart watches to integrate with iphone properly instead of restricting features like they do right now and their product (iwatch) was the best for users then it would remain the best. Stopping other companies like garmin from even trying is the main issue and if you don't see that, then you aren't smart enough for me to respond to again.

  • I’m a little conflicted over this so-called lawsuit. If Apple wants to make a product like an iPhone and create the best software for it, that shouldn’t be an issue. And the fact that Apple has sold so many of them is an indication that people actually LIKE the product and use it. Isn’t that what any business wants? Now, it can be debatable whether Apple is intentionally preventing third-parties from utilizing Apple software and apps by making them “incompatible” with other phone makers, but let’s take Ford and Toyota as car manufactureres. What if Ford sued Toyota for not making parts that fit Ford vehicles? Pretty ridiculous. BUT…the fact is that you cannot use Toyota parts in Ford vehicles and vice versa. Genuine Toyota parts for Toyota vehicles. Genuine Ford parts for Ford vehicles. Both companies sell a lot of vehicles but would either of them be accused for trying to be a monopoly because they won’t design parts for all vehicles? Seems to me that when the EU forced Apple to use C-ports on their latest iPhones (and the whole Epic Games debaucle), it has created a new “bloodsport” that allows anyone with a beef against Apple to come after them. Seriously, I don’t agree with Apple charging so many high fees for the “privilege” of utilizing Apple’s technology but there is not a single law that says Apple can’t do that. We can complain all day long about the “apple tax” but where’s the anti-trust element? Why should Apple want to dumb down their products and services just so other manufacturers and developers can use them with their products for nothing? Apple has bought hundreds of companies over the decade that have developed great technology and they have used it to make their products better. Those companies didn’t have to sell. I’m sure many companies refused offers from Apple. And Apple has developed really good products in their own and if they don’t want to sell or share, why should they? To me, it just sounds like the government doesn’t like the power and finances that Apple has so they have to be taken down a notch. Even if the DOJ is successful in their lawsuit, what will that mean for other companies? Do businesses have to make products and services that their competition can use too? It makes no sense and can set an unsettling precedent.

    • Thats clearly not the same analogy, you can use third party parts in most cars so Toyota can make Ford parts if it wanted to. Ford can make 'Ford Genuine' parts but it can't say Third party parts cannot be used. The customer then can decide if it wants to pay for the cheaper third party parts or the genuine ones. So that clearly is not a monopoly. Apple is clearly making barriers to third parties connecting to its ecosystem and thus forcing their customers to buy their products, and you cannot deny that is monopolistic. Apple not allowing Apple phones to connect to Android is a clear example of that and shows Apple is deliberately doing this to stifle competition. Can you explain why Apple 'can't connect to an Android device'? its not a technological issue, its Apples Monopolistic strategies and nothing else. Can you not see this? What about Apple watches? surely you can't be that blind. If Apple products were as good as they are, they should stand on their own merits and the Apple walled ecosystem should no longer exist allowing customers decide what they want not Apple.

    • Well, you haven’t really used an iphone for long. As an iphone user i notice how apple wants you to stay with an iphone at all costs.

    • @@jonathanmabiala5541nothing wrong with that but no one is forcing you to keep buying Apple devices. This lawsuit is hilarious the government wants to tell a company how they should develop their products? In the end this is business, every company has the rights to run their business the way they want.

    • I won't leave because of the walled garden. I've played with the other stuff, I'm happy with all my stuff working together and not worrying about potential holes in security due to a more open platform. I'm glad there are options for others who don't want the walled garden - but for my part, I pay extra to have the walls on my garden... LOL

    • Yes, they all no doubt own Apple shares in some manner. They will slap Apple, and little more. If nothing else all the teachers pensions in the country own shares. Invest in dog food companies if they break Apple because lots of retirements will require eating it.

  • A major security issue is the Apple Air tag. Android users can download an app that tells them if there's one close by but they can't use it to track the air tags themselves. This gives them very little reason to download the app. All you got to do is make sure the person you're tracking uses an Android and 99% of the time they won't ever know they're being tracked.

    • Actually, Google has worked with apple and is intergrating it into the OS

      @cassiuscartland@cassiuscartland27 күн бұрын
    • That's great as long as you get the same functionality that you would get as an apple customer. Even if it doesn't it's better than nothing because at least you'll know if there's a tag near you.

  • 0:25 this isnt even a fair argument, pixel watch and many fitbit devices only work with android

    @cassiuscartland@cassiuscartland28 күн бұрын
    • If the pixel watch can't work with your iphone eventhough it works with other brands like samsung, oppo, vivo, oneplus, motorola, etc, then the only explanation is that apple restrict the iphone from working together with other brand... Thankyou for confirming apple's evil monopoly tactics... Appreciate that... 👏👏👏
