  • Days like these are truly special! Back in 2006, I went out on an early November day, lake to myself, and I found a small patch of weed line that was still green. The patch was about 150yds long and the muskies were just stacked along those weeds looking to ambush everything! 12 muskies came to my line that day. 12! Like you, I needed someone to pinch me because I knew that this was "impossible" and nearly unbelievable. I did not end my day with a broken lure, thankfully, but I witnessed one of the most breathtaking sunsets of my lifetime as a bonus! I have never had a day like that since. I've gone out on similar days with similar conditions, but the best I've been able to do under those efforts of duplication is 3. You had an amazing day there, no doubt! Hope you have another real soon! Snow is being stubborn, but spring is working its way north!

Second, and the most impressive, the fish are very clean. Even the bass in late summer are so clean. All of that in combination with your enjoyable, laid back style, makes for very enjoyable videos. I bet that you get mistaken for being Canadian when you travel.

  • ~ Bruh, tysm!! I was having the hardest time remembering a song title of a song I loved from years ago, I'd been searching for it for several months, then I read your video title and it instantly "clicked", the song is Spillways by Ghost. 😅 ~ And OMG, the teeth on those fish. My step dad was bitten by one once while we were out fishing, he was trying to remove the hook when it got him, and his hand was so bloodied. I was only 8 yrs old at the time and I was the one who caught the monster. Image reeling in a fish to the dock at night and seeing that thing emerge. LoL, I'd never seen anything like that before, so I was terrified of it and didn't wanna fish anymore after that. So, my dad said that I could help with the crab traps. 🤣

  • A lifetime of Muskie in a matter of hours. Sometimes, everything just comes together for a magical day of fishing: the right equipment at the right time in the right location. It can feel a bit greedy on the rare occasion that this happens, but you have to savor it because it doesn't happen that often for most of us. You have to wonder how many more you would have caught if you had more of those swim baits with you. I guess you'll be stocking up on them just in case this ever happens again. • Ya know,,,,It's so interesting to me that in our part of the country (Minnesota/Wisconsin/Dakotas) there is a show (or two) primarily dedicated to muskie fishing. They sleep in a truck. Have the boat rigged with 4 cameras and 2 handhelds. They sharpen the hooks around the campfire on every bait a pair of 75lb. tackle boxes can hold. Drive around in a $75,000 truck and a $65,000 boat rigged to the teeth. And, oh yeah, probably 15 sponsors offering up everything from mud guards to beer to haircuts to musky lures to custom rods and more. Yup, they catch fish but they also do their very best to depict every step as a painful, almost religious effort. Then, along comes our hero...driving a little pickup truck with a trailer designed to hold a kayak, one rod rigged with an overused bait and a replacement found in the back seat, one camera mounted on his hat...etc. Plus, not a sponsor sticker in sight. The results? He shares with us a few hours of fishing we'd all give an arm to enjoy and lands more nice muskies in 3 hours than the other guys land on a 4 day trip to who knows where while eating Snickers bars from Kwik Trip. For my money, I'll continue to be a hardcore, loyal subscriber to NDYakAngler while enjoying his low key narratives, abilities and tips. I'd rather spend 4 hours with him than 36 hours with the "high-priced" guys. Sorry for such a long comment ladies and gentlemen. Happy fishing!

  • Matt, congrats on the PB^3rd for muskies. Thanks for sharing it with us. We’re all in AWE and my forearms are feeling sympathetic pain. Just curious (me being me) but you and ur friends have fished this side of this same spillway in a couple of postings and you always seem to do well. I am curious why you never approach it from the other side of the river. The lay of the land looks pretty similar. I assume the dam continues to viewer’s right from the rock you are standing on in this video. It just looks like the other side would be ‘pretty fishy’ if it is approachable from land. I wouldn’t want to attempt it from the sea. I can’t quite read the large red sign posted on the concrete wing-wall on the side of the river but it must be a SERIOUS WARNING to stay out. (We all know how most fishermen can’t read). LOL

    • I wish I could hit this spot from the other side, but that side is off limits to fishing. They have the whole area gated off on the top side, and even if you pull up the kayak downstream and walk up the rocks a friend of mine tried and got kicked out by the game warden.

  • Muskie lunged. We were cleaning out a rearing pond and took what was there and dumped it in just above the dam. We were pretty sure some of them would go down stream. Glad you had fun with 'em and even more glad that you released them for other fishermen to catch later on. We didn't dump any pike or other species in this time out, so those are all on you!

    • I’m lucky that I can get out there during the week when it’s usually quiet. It was packed that first weekend after the flood receded, a few days after I filmed this video. I waited a couple weeks to post a vid but a few other guys posted vids as well, and about a half dozen people posted muskie pics with the dam behind them on local social media pages all on that first weekend. It was packed there for about a month straight after that where even if I got there at first light someone was already posted up in that corner. And people wonder why I hold on to footage and don’t name locations lol.

    • @@ndyakangler That's smart, bc you know they watch every video. We have one guide in our area who has a KZhead channel, that discloses every hotspot on the Sacramento River. Talking to local anglers, they're not too pleased with the dude. One guy nicknamed him: "Crusty Bob's Guide Service".🥴

    • @@oldschoolhawking8191 Yeah I try not to make it too easy to find me but there’s plenty of people that know the spots I fish. If I post a video Saturday morning I’m probably not going back to that spot for a week or two because I know there’s gonna be several people fishing it. I had one guy pull up and start chewing me out last year saying I was ruining his river for sportsmen by posting vids and a he’d seen plates from three different states there. I guess out of staters don’t count as sportsmen lol. I’d been on that stretch about a half dozen times already that season and hadn’t seen a single other person out there.

    • @@ndyakangler That's unbelievable. The only time I ever had somebody comment on where I fish was, we were out on the river and this guy drifted by and said he saw our spot on my YT Channel. He recognized a stump on the beach, then pointed at it.
