Have you ever wondered how the James Webb Telescope could take a photo that's 13 billion years old? Or how light can reveal secrets from billions of years ago? In this video, I'm exploring the fascinating concept of the Doppler effect as it applies to light, known as redshift. By understanding redshift, and the expanding universe, scientists can peer almost 13.6 billion years into the past, observing the universe when it was just 2% of its current age.
I'll also be giving away an awesome Space Shuttle Lego set, so be sure to stick around until the end of the video to learn more about how you can win! Enter to win at the link below.

    • I know for a fact there are other lifeforms out there. There was even life on other planets in our own solar system millions of years ago. I have an image taken by the curiosity rover when it was in the Gale crater on Mars of a large reptile's fossilized remains. The wild thing is NASA employees know of it too because the Curiosity rover took a rock sample of one of it's fossilized vertebras and found it contained organic compounds. Indicating it was once a living breathing creature. It should have been front page news but they kept silent. I believe it's because they wanted to go back to Mars. I believe if they had proof the red planet once contained life there would be no other reason to fund future missions. Mystery solved. But, as long as there's a mystery to be solved there will be future grants available for more studies. That's why so much funding goes to looking for dark matter and dark energy. They are the biggest mysteries to date that need solving. I believe they don't really want to solve them mysteries either. Well, as long as the money flows to them they'll keep dodging the solution. I solved the dark matter and dark energy mysteries many years ago. Wrote and published several books about them. I know they're dodging the solutions because it wasn't that difficult to figure them out.

    • Yes, tho it wont be very similar to us humans. They will be different to us depending on what kind of environment they live in, even possibly what kind of technology have they discovered. And their intelligence may also be different depending on their genes/evolutions. in simple words, they do exist but their appearances are adapted from their own environment. As well as their intelligence are merelt based off their genes.

Life is not something that only happens once, it happens because of certain conditions being present and since the universe is so huge, there definitely is a chance of life happening in other planets. They (beings of other worlds) might be far away, young or dumb but there always is space for more life in the universe other than us. • What amazes me is how people discard the fact that we still don't know if it is infinitely big or just extremely big. If it is infinitely big, then it can be implied that there is also an infinite number of planets that potentially hold life. The variations in each form of life can range from being very similar to completely different, which for me is mind-boggling. Additionally, I find it unsettling that as a species, we are not advanced enough to thoroughly explore and engage with other potential life forms before they vanish into uncharted territories.

I mean the civilisation or even humanity has just existed for a glimpse on the timescale of the universe and the region of space that could detect our presence is very limited. Also, I like to think that other forms of life would be so different, that we would'nt even identify as such, considering that we already struggle to find a definition to life itself.

It's probability, as high as it might seem, is very questionable, the probability isn't just about number of stars, but things like chances of planet being in goldilocks zone, or the atmospheric composition, list just goes on and on. Or maybe there was a civilization much superior than us, which might have perished because of a cataclysmic celestial event! Talking or even thinking about this gives me goosebumps!

  • For us the photon did travel for 13 Billion Years, but the photon itself just started its voyage recently, if it had a perception of time.

  • The evolution of life on Earth from non-living matter to humans is a staggering feat with odds of 1 in a billion. And yet, we are still searching for life on other planets. This makes me believe that there must be some form of life beginning, ending, or growing somewhere in this vast and expanding universe.

    • When you zoom in on DNA, you realize that life is nothing more than complex physics and the nature of the universe. life is a product of the laws of physics and the forces that govern the universe. while it is true that DNA is made up of molecules that are governed by the laws of physics, life is also a product of evolution. Therefore, it is not accurate that life is "nothing more" than complex physics.

  • So cool to see how scientists use the most minute differences in readings of a couple pixels in a photo to find out so much information about our universe.

  • Amazing video! I think the with ever expanding universe and light being the fastest element in the universe (not considering the space between each galaxies), there could already be a life existing right now somewhere out there, we are just not seeing that light due to vast distances!
