  • Nice video! Extra credit for including the history about F1's combustion instability & testing around that. People absolutely lose their minds when SpaceX intentionally blows up an engine, even a lot of spaceflight fans. People need to learn you can't innovate if you don't test the limits.

  • Great video on the history of the McGregor test site. It was a good little history lesson. That being said, the "fine art market" is nothing more than a way for rich people to launder and or hide money. Great works of art should be praised for the artistry and not how much they are worth. Masterworks is nothing but a scam. Do better and get more reputable sponsors.

  • Before they took over MacGregor, SpaceX tested the gas generator for Merlin in Mojave on our mobile test stand at XCOR Aerospace. One GG test exactly twenty years ago today- on Nov 11 2002- made a huge cloud of black smoke while the local jet pilots were doing a missing man formation for a veteran's day ceremony at the Mojave cemetery. This caused considerable distress and confusion as some people thought one of the planes had crashed. Yes, it made THAT much black smoke. Cal EPA also got involved when the plume was blown across their air monitoring equipment and we had to provide more documentation, but fortunately no fines were imposed.

  • During the time that the Saturn V rocket was being tested at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL, dishes would dance on kitchen shelves and building windows would vibrate but I cannot remember anyone in Huntsville complaining. We understood we were an important part of the NASA program to land astronauts on the Moon - and was proud of the fact. It was a very exciting time. The unanswered question is why was the perfected Saturn F-1 engine discontinued and all the plans destroyed? My guess is that it was purely a political move to ensure more jobs and votes from the Space Shuttle program. The Saturn V and its F-1 engines proved to be too perfect in every way. They gave us the ability to build a Moon colony and go to Mars. Our politicians did NOT want us to do that - regardless of what the public wanted. Congress does NOT care about the space program. It cares ONLY about financial wealth and power for its members. Piss on all of them.
