Taken from the Division Bell rehearsal Earls Court London 1994
The song, originally titled "In Shades of Grey", addresses the great hopes following the fall of the Berlin Wall and the disappointment that followed. David Gilmour stated:
Despite Gilmour's statements to the contrary, the lyrics have often been read as a reflection on the bitter and estranged partnership Gilmour had with former bandmate Roger Waters, who was the driving force behind the band's album The Wall. By this interpretation, the "Great Day for Freedom" would be the day Waters left the band, giving the other members freedom to determine the band's future direction. Gilmour commented on this reading: "I'm quite happy for people to interpret The Division Bell any way they like. But maybe a note of caution should be sounded because you can read too much into it. 'A Great Day for Freedom', for example, has got nothing to do with Roger or his 'wall'. It just doesn't. What else can I say?"
Live
The song was performed by the band on selected dates of The Division Bell tour, and is available on the Pulse (1995) live album, but was omitted from the Pulse VHS and DVD. Gilmour performed it at his solo semi-acoustic concerts in 2002 which can be seen on the David Gilmour in Concert (2002) DVD. The song also made just one appearance during Gilmour's 2006 On an Island Tour, at the final show in Gdańsk, Poland; this performance can be found on the live album/DVD Live in Gdańsk (2008).

I wish the guitar solo would last forever. A true masterpiece of rock history with probably the best guitarist in the world. David Gilmour is a true legend!
i agree 100%
🧢🙌🫡🥲 David Gilmour is just soulful
Yo, for what it's worth, that's very well stated.
I wish I could go back in time, to this date and be there just to see rehearsal and hear Gilmour’s soulful music
The best band of all time, with the best guitarist along with the best back vocal.
And the most atmospheric drummer. Do not forget Nick. His punctuation and pulse makes the full band , in my ears.
@@matthewhackett1710 Hey don't forget the great Richard Wright 🎹
Love them backing singers...always the under rated role...and of courde David Gilmour .... Its hard to imagine the Floyd without Waters...but here is one track that reminds me that it may wrll be possible!!! Rock on!!!
Sorry that belongs to RUSH
@@demonchild6551 lest ye rush to judgement
This song always reminds me of my father who passed away on my 11th bday in 2000. He adored this band soooo much & I've never looked back. Pink Floyd's music always gets me. 😩😭❤️

I wonder what David Gilmour stated!

@@HDPinkFloyd Thanks a lot!!
This sounds even better than had it been done in a recording studio. It’s that live sound without the audience noise in the background.

Son meilleur comme vous le dites, voix au pluriel extraordinaires..
Incredible is not enough to describe DG. He can make any guitar sing…..and he is one of the greatest of all time. I love to hear Jeff Beck, Prince, Dawayne Bailey, but DG surpasses these greats in all aspects. I listen to Pink Floyd as much as I can, especially after I’ve had a bad day with my wife who sadly has vascular dementia. Bless her, and bless DG.
I'm going through the same thing as you and I have the same feelings.
This voice ❤❤❤❤
One and only David gilmour the best guitar player in my opinion. Thank you for your music 🎶 Pink Floyd
Must agree with you there, there is no other Guitarist that can extract so much feeling and emotion out of a Guitar and make it sing like Gilmour does, gives me goosebumps
PF, спасибо, что Вы есть👍👍👍 Ваш поклонник с середины 70-х годов
It’s a beauty. The entire album. What he did with the Freedom solo in Gdańsk was pure magic.
And when I heard Lost For Words on the later years I fell in love with that version. Something about how he changed the opening solo, instead of gaps in the music like the album version, he plays right through. 😍
It's great to see someone else appreciate that solo as much as i did. That one was really special, the black strat was literally weeping. The crescendo in volume adding tension and switching from the neck pickup to the bridge pickup near the end, and that triple bend... I just wish i was there in front of the stage that night... 😊
AGDFF at Gdansk is one of his finest ever solos.
Only Gilmour can improve his own work. Talking about the Gdansk solo at the end.
I was just thinking of that, he was on fire and knew it, that is a must-see, I've only seen it in that Gdansk documentary
Was at this concert in Winnipeg 1994. Changed my life for the better. Inspiring!
I was at the same of in Toronto and the one before that in /87 at the C.N.E. stadium both incredible and basically the greatest shows I;ve ever seen.
Amazing dear friend, Thanks for this Gem 👍👍👍😊🎼🎼🎼
Pink Floyd ahead of the time, ahead of time, his music remains forever
David and Rick's smiling at the end is a beauty
in that moment they knew how special that was
Certainly my friend, Masters David Gilmour and Richard Wright were very friendly and Master Nick Mason too !!!!!!!!!!!!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Dont think so
Улыбки Ангелов!Обожаю!😇😇💫💫💫🥰
Makes me wish I had taken the opportunity in my younger years to go to one of their concerts. Definitely regret it! Glad we can still enjoy their music.
You are right..I thing the same...
Likewise. I was in London with dad when I was quite young but remember driving past Earls Court and seeing Pink Floyd in Concert written above the entrance, only to be a big fan 10 or so years later. One regret never seen them in concert also, but was the closest I got - to the front door 😂😎
Go see Brit Floyd… exactly the same including the whole show just different musicians
Thank you a lot sir for the upload of the live performance of this great song. It is the first time I can see this performance. Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Actually, there are two songs: Great Day For Freedom and Lost For Words. They are taken from the rehearsal before the gig. Wow, yeah, the best.
Best of best❤️
Completamente de acuerdo 🤝!!!
There’s no other words to say.
one of my favorites ❤
Bellissima veramente, ottima scelta prima di andare a dormire! Grazie 🙏 HDPinkFloyd grazie di cuore
Oh man. That smile at the end between Rick and Dave. They knew they had the magic.
My dude never played this solo enough. But when he did. It was magic.
RIP Richard Wright 2008 / Claudia Fontaine (backvocal) 2018

I'll never forget this tour. Was there in Oakland Coliseum, California. Last chance to see the incomparable Richard Wright, and a deeply emotional night for me.
Gratidão por tudo 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Wow I've never seen this before! Thank you so much for this! It's absolutely extraordinary!!
Merci bcp de nous faire revivre cette nostalgie émouvante. Merci.
35 years Pink Floyd fan, the best of the best. David Gilmour’s lead guitar makes a lot of sense with deep meaning. As it blends with the band, the songs can carry you away comfortably numb with a great day for freedom

Beautiful
Pulse forever music David , Walters , Nick e Richard its my Life in coracion ❤️❤️❤️❤️ quarteto fantástico By Ed Floyd 🎈🎉💎🎸🇧🇷
Everyone was in top form at the Pulse concert. And the Division Bell album is the masterpiece, comparable to the DSOTM album. I wish they had performed the whole TDB album in full in the concert. Maroon, Poles Apart, and the Lost For Words were overlooked.
That was Beautiful and I have always felt that way and Your the First Other than myself who I've ever heard say that ❤ The Taste is So much Sweeter
Am with you guys
Marooned is an absolute masterpiece, it won a Grammy in 1994 for best rock instrumental performance. Poles Apart and Lost for Words are such great songs as well. TDB is in my opinion the best Pink Floyd album.
pf as on its top on the DSOT tour. these girls cant reach rachel/durga/margareth and gilmour's voice was far stronger and louder in 87/88.
I could listen to this for a very long time and probably never get tired...just fantastic PF / never disappointed!!!
You know Dave loved jamming on the acoustic way better then on the strat. Love the electric but the fundamentals begin with the classic six string. Cheers to all you Floyd people. It doesn’t get any better. God bless!!!!🍻
The greatest band on earth! Greatest guitar soloist of all time!
Amazing, thank you so much ♥️
This album is my altime favorite pink floyd album..a true masterpiece..
Lol

Go and find the DVD of Pulse if it’’s possible. This video was obviously just a rehearsal clip, the song versions on Pulse are simply wonderful.

This song is a masterpiece. That solo is so damn beautiful that it makes me cry.
after the wall. (the bets album recorded ever to me) Division Bell is the one who follows. thanks for sharing.
Son : Geniales que directo mas puro ,una pasada.
Todo en esta canción encaja perfectamente, todo, letra y musica
Os solos de guitarra de David Guilmour nos leva a outras dimensões. Simplesmente toca a alma. Emilson Cezar-SC
Toda la música de pink floyd desde siempre te transportan automáticamente a otra dimensión
Pink floyd siempre me traerá recuerdos de los tiempos felices con mi hermano mayor, que siempre me enseñó buena música
Another tear-jerking masterpiece!
On the day the wall came down They threw the locks onto the ground And with glasses high we raised a cry For freedom had arrived On the day the wall came down The Ship of Fools had finally run aground Promises lit up the night like paper doves in flight I dreamed you had left my side No warmth not even pride remained And even though you needed me It was clear that I could not do a thing for you Now life devalues day by day As friends and neighbours turn away And there's a change that, even with regret Cannot be undone Now frontiers shift like desert sands While nations wash their bloodied hands Of loyalty, of history, in shades of gray I woke to the sound of drums The music played, the morning sun streamed in I turned and I looked at you And all but the bitted residue slipped away Slipped away
Grandioso! a historia do rock! Música séria! Saludos!
Spero di poterli ascoltare anche quando sarò nell'aldilà. Pink Floyd I Love You ❤️❤️
The last worldwide acting of masterpiece. It will never comes again.
PF История всей моей жизни .Слушаю с 16 лет мне 57 .
Gracias por compartir video Musica la mejor Pink Floyd !!!
Top in the world👍👍👍
love this
4:34 one of the best ending notes
He loves to sharpen that G, but how he gets through just one track without breaking strings is beyond my comprehension, or ability 🤪
thank you Y.T.for play list like this one amazing PINK FLOYD!!!!!
I love the moment after the line "there'll be no safety in numbers, when the right one walks out of the door", as DG turns to look at Rick Wright - the camera also settles on Rick. This line references Rick's departure from the band during the recording of The Wall, which left Gilmour much more alone in facing down Roger Waters.
I don't know how you goy this but TF you did and thanks for sharing!
Duas musicas lindas, interpretada pela melhor banda de todos os tempos André M. Luciano RS Brasil🇧🇷
